March produced four Premierships for the Club, two senior and two junior plus the senior T20 Championship trophy. This was capped off with the retention of the Junior and Senior Club Championships. Players and organisers alike were frustrated week in, week out with a pattern of wet weather that saw torrential rain usually on Wednesdays and Thursdays resulting in soggy outfields (or lakes like Nolans was in February – see picture) and come Saturday, the inevitable closure of the grounds by Council. If the grounds were open, a thunderstorm around 2:30pm usually sent the Seniors scurrying for the shelter of the Brookvale Hotel. Players returned from the Christmas break to find a new pitch at Plateau Park. Part of the MWCA/Warringah Council pitch improvement program utlising the player levy funds collected over the past few seasons, the new slab has been repositioned to a more central position making for a much improved cricket experience. This improvement coincides nicely with the old tennis shed being redeveloped and finally operational as the Club’s first on-ground facility. This small, but significant project allows us to store training and game day equipment in an infinitely more convenient location making life much easier for coaches and captains. The dramatic improvement to this area of Plateau Park is there for all to see – and enjoy. The project was completed with grant assistance from Warringah Council and the NSW Government. Thanks also to Dave Moss and Luke Ireland for their contribution of labour and expertise to the project. In addition to the new pitch and facility, the playing experience with CPCC received an extra boost with the financial support of the club by Lateral Corporation. This major sponsorship was brought to the club by Tony Johnson, a regular player over the past few seasons in the 4th/5th Grade team allowing the provision of a playing cap and shirt to all senior players and the purchasing of a new ‘pavilion’ sun-shelter. We look forward to continuing this association with Lateral and further equipment/gear provided to Club members for the coming season.
