For The Marylebone Menu, chefs from seven of the area’s finest restaurants—Michelin-starred restaurants Texture and Trishna, newcomer Xier and established local favourites The Providores and Tapa Room, Chiltern Firehouse, Roux at the Landau and Bernardi’s—will be serving up a multi-course menu that demonstrates the depth of talent and breadth of inspiration found within the local dining scene. The dinner—tickets for which sold out within hours of its launch—will be accompanied by bread from GAIL’s Bakery, concluded with cheese and port from La Fromagerie, chocolates from Rococo and coffee from The Montagu Kitchen, and washed down with drinks from The Coach Makers Arms, 108 Brasserie, Marylebone Gin, Philglas & Swiggot, Le Vieux Comptoir, Vinoteca and Daylesford. And all of this will happen not in some large, soulless purpose-built catering unit designed to accommodate such an undertaking, but in St Mary’s Church London, a beautiful Georgian church. In this atmospheric setting, guests will dine on long, elegantly-decorated communal tables, and their feasting will be soundtracked by live music from the Marylebone Music Festival brass quartet. 5 — marylebonefoodfestival.com 6 — marylebonefoodfestival.com 24 25 SECRET LONDON BOOK FOOD MATTERS SUPPERCLUB CHOCOLATE & WINE TASTING MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: SIGNING The London Clinic Philglas & Swiggot COFFEE WITH DINNY HALL The George Bar 20 Devonshire Place, 22 New Quebec Street, The George Bar Durrants Hotel, W1G 6BW W1H 7SB Durrants Hotel, 32 George Street, thelondonclinic.co.uk philglas-swiggot.com 32 George Street, W1H 5BJ W1H 5BJ durrantshotel.co.uk The London Clinic, one of the Over the past few years, food durrantshotel.co.uk country’s top private hospitals, is lovers have become ever more With its wood-panelled walls, hosting a series of supper clubs atuned to the nitty gritty of how Join neighbourhood jeweller plunging leather seats and club- themed around the nutritional food gets from our fields to Dinny Hall for a morning of like atmosphere (of the private benefits of food. Iceland • Marine bioresources play a key role in the bioeconomy of Iceland. Import of food, feed and fertilizers to the region indicates opportunities to increase self-sufficiency, especially with cross sectoral utilisation of side products. • Export of fish and fish products are by far the most important food export items from Iceland. In 2016 about 596 thousand tons fish products were exported for revenue of about 246,000 million ISK. • There are about 3,000 small family-owned sheep farms in Iceland. The challenges for sheep farmers are low income and the need for off-farm employment. Innovation, product development and added value products are very much needed in the sheep value chain. • Geothermal energy makes the production of various vegetables possible in Iceland. This sector can be developed considerably. • The production of the old Icelandic dairy product skyr has increased greatly in Iceland and abroad. A total volume of about 1,300 tons are exported annually for a value of about 500 million ISK. Norway • There is a potential for increased value adding of food produced in the Norwegian Arctic, in both local and national markets.

Some experts say the country is making a grave misstep on the fight to protect the climate, while others believe there are many benefits to Norway’s oil production. We’ll get a firsthand account from both sides of this controversy with a representative of the Bellona Foundation and a local offshore oil worker.

At the same time, art projects are “nodal points” that provide entry and linkages between communities across the Atlantic. In this study, based on multi-sited ethnographic fieldwork in Canada and Iceland, I explore this argument by examining ethnic networking between Icelandic-Canadians and the Icelandic state, which adopted neoliberal economic policies between 1991 and 2008. The neoliberal restructuring in Iceland was manifested in the implementation of programs of privatization and deregulation. The tidal wave of free trade, market rationality and expansions across national borders required re-imagined, nationalized accounts of Icelandic identity and society and reconfigurations of the margins of the Icelandic state. Through programs and a range of technologies, discourses, and practices, the Icelandic state worked to create enterprising, empowered, and creative subjects appropriate to the neoliberal project.

  • La Guía MICHELIN Great Britain & Ireland 2018
