D’Annunzio”, Via dei Vestini 31, 66100 Chieti [email protected] Lia Giancristofaro, docteur d’études approfondies (EHESS, Parigi) e dottore di ricerca (Università degli Studi “G. D’Annunzio” di Chieti), è professore associato in Materie Demo-Etno-Antropologiche presso l’Università di Chieti, dove insegna Antropologia Culturale dal 2006. Dal 2000 dirige la “Rivista Abruzzese”, rassegna di cultura regionale fondata nel 1948 e accreditata ANVUR. È membro del Comitato Scientifico delle riviste “Lares” e “Dada”. Si occupa di diritti umani e culturali, processi rituali, “medicine tradizionali”, migrazioni, guerra, violenza, memoria, antropologia della letteratura e processi di patrimonializzazione, osservando anche il terzo settore e le funzioni politiche delle ONG. Ha coordinato, per il suo Ateneo, vari progetti di antropologia applicata. Ha fatto parte del collegio dei docenti del Dottorato in Lingue, Letterature e Culture, XXIX ciclo, Università “G. D’Annunzio”, e del Corso di Perfezionamento in Beni Culturali Antropologici, Università Milano Bicocca. È stata visiting professor in Francia presso l’Institut d’Ethnologie Méditerranéenne, Européenne et Comparative dell’Université Aix-Marseille. È membro del Comitato Scientifico per l’Elaborazione di linee guida per la tutela dei beni etnoantropologici e immateriali, Servizio VI, MiBACT, Direzione Generale ABAP, e membro fondatore del gruppo internazionale di ricerca sul patrimonio culturale nei conflitti armati, Università Ca’ Foscari, Venezia. È membro del direttivo della Società Italiana per la Museografia DemoEtnoAntropologica (SIMBDEA, Organizzazione Non Governativa accreditata presso la Commissione ICH dell’UNESCO) e, in rappresentanza di tale ONG, ha osservato diverse sessioni dell’Assemblea Generale degli Stati-parte della Convenzione per la Salvaguardia del Patrimonio Culturale Intangibile. È socia inoltre della SIAA (Società Italiana di Antropologia Applicata), dell’EASA (European Association of Social Anthropologists), della SIAM (Società Italiana di Antropologia Medica) e della SIAC (Società Italiana degli Antropologi Culturali). Ha coordinato vari progetti di ricerca regionali e interregionali, alcuni dei quali di antropologia applicata. The thesis focuses on the formation and practice of Maausk, which is perceived to be deeply tied to the society and history where it exists. Relatedly, this study examines how Maausk identity formation and practices have been influenced by the Soviet legacy, romantic nationalism and Estonia’s current economic and political situation. In order to analyse the Maausk experiences and narratives, this study draws from various phenomenologically oriented theories of affect, embodiment and emotion, as well as cultural theories of place, identity, tradition and authenticity. I have used economic anthropology and glo- balisation theories as well as historical studies of Estonia’s Soviet past to contextualise the Maausk movement. Further, to place Maausk in the European religious landscape, this study refers to native faith and Neo- pagan studies. Through sensory ethnography, this study draws on the affective and emotional aspects of the research material to analyse how the complexity of emotional experiences of being a Maausk practitioner produces Maausk meanings and values.
