Crowdfunding Campaign Launches for His Holiness the 16th ’s Project

Seattle, March 1, 2020 – Today, the Karmapa Center 16 is delighted to announce the launch of a $1 million crowdfunding campaign for His Holiness the 16th Gyalwang Karmapa’s Parinirvana stupa, meditation hall, retreat center, and place to learn and study about and the .

The 16th Karmapa said that building are good activities to benefit the environment and beings. In general, a stupa is a symbol for the enlightened body, speech, and mind of the guru— most essentially, the mind of the guru. Stupas are built for the protection of the environment and to prevent natural disasters.

“I would request everyone who has a connection of faith toward the 16th Gyalwang Karmapa to support these projects as much as possible,” said His Holiness the 17th Karmapa, , in a video statement on the campaign’s GoFundMe page.

Funds raised in the first phase of this project enabled Karmapa Centre 16 to purchase and establish the project on a ten-acre plot of land in Wadsworth, Illinois in central United States five miles from Zion, IL (near Chicago, Illinois) where His Holiness attained parinirvana. His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa has been twice to bless the land, conduct pujas and review the project.

Karmapa Centre 16 is also honored to have received the support of imminent Buddhist masters across lineages such as: Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse , His Holiness Gongma Trichen and Ani Pema Chodron, some of whom will share their personal experience with HH the 16th Gyalwang Karmapa as part of regular campaign updates.
