It is recalled how – at the moment a Polish state first came into being in the 10th century – its western border also followed a course more or less coinciding with these same two rivers. In subsequent cen- turies, the political limits of the Polish and German spheres of influence shifted markedly to the east. However, as a result of the drastic reverse suffered by Nazi Germany, the western border of Poland was re-set at the Oder-Neisse Line. Consideration is given to both the causes and consequences of this far-reaching geopolitical decision taken at the Potsdam Conference by the victorious Three Powers of the USSR, UK and USA. What I mean here are maps in the modern sense of the word, i.e. Graphic rep- resentations that facilitate a spatial understanding of things, concepts, conditions, processes, or events in the human world1. It is an important reservation because the line between graphic and non-graphic representations of the Earth’s surface in the Middle Ages was sometimes blurred, therefore the term mappamundi could mean either a cartographic image or a textual geographical description, and in some cases it functioned as an equivalent of the modern term “Geography”2. Consequently, there’s a tendency in the modern historiography to analyze both forms of the geographical descriptions together. However, the late medieval and early modern developments in the perception and re-constructing of the space led to distinguishing cartography as an autonomous, full-fledged discipline of knowledge, and to the general acceptance of the map in the modern sense as a basic form of presentation of the world’s surface. Most maps which will be examined in the paper were produced in this later period, so it seems justified to analyze only the “real” maps, although in a broader context of the geographical imaginations. -

Sewage treatment around the lagoon has been very much improved during the last years, but large amounts of sewage still enter the Oder river. Human path- ogenic viruses generally can be expected in all surface waters that are affected by municipal sewage. There is an increasing awareness that predisposed persons can be infected by a few infective units or even a single active virus. Another new aspect is, that at least polioviruses attached to suspend- ed particles can be infective for weeks and therefore be transported over long distances. Therefore, the highest risk of virus inputs arise from the large amounts of untreated sewage of the city of Szcze- cin (Poland), which are released into the river Oder and transported to the lagoon and the Baltic Sea. Summer tourism is the most important economical factor in this coastal region and further growth is expected. -

Our main mission is to defend the principles of a democratic state of law: freedom, rights and civil liberties, which are the cornerstone of democratic Poland. Ceramics has a centuries-old tradition in Kashubia, and again the designs are simple. Growing shipping traffic increases the likelihood of collisions. A quantitative analysis of the impact of fishing vessel traffic streams on streams of merchant vessel traffic aims to identify areas of intense traffic of this type and to assess the potential risks. The identification of intersections of fishing vessel routes and merchant shipping traffic allows us to identify spots of potential collisions. The analysis made use of the IALA IWRAP Mk2 program and AIS data collected from April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014. The threat to the resources part of the groundwater intake Wydrzany approach results from the progressive concentration of chloride ion, mainly in the southern part of the intake and locally in the central part of the water intake. After the launch of the intake at the end of the 1970s, the development of the water table depression, currently reaching the shore of the Lagoon, caused the frontal infiltration of the brackish waters of the Szczecin Lagoon into aquifers and a small amount of brine ascesion from the mesozoic strata. To determine the genesis of salinity, isotopic tests were carried out, including 37Cl chlorine isotopes. Water for the Szczecin Lagoon and groundwater, including the aquifer of the Cretceous, have been sampled. GEOLOGICAL AND HYDROGEOLOGICAL OUTLINE The studied area of research is located in the western part of the Polish Baltic coast, in the the town of Świnoujście, West Pomeranian Voivodeship (fig. 1). There are two morphological forms in the landscape of this island. These are contrasting flat delta areas, being part of the so-called "Swina's Gates" and a varied ordinate of the upland of this island. -

ABSTRACT Since autumn of 2010 in the north-eastern part of Poland underground gas stores are under construction by diluting salt deposits. A by-product of the technology applied is brine, which is discharged into the coastal waters of the Puck Bay (south Baltic Sea). In the pre- investment study a theoretical analysis of the mixing conditions in the near-field and far- field of the proposed installation was conducted. An extensive monitoring programme carried out since 2010 shows a good mixing of brine with the surrounding waters. Excess salinity due to the continuous discharge of brine estimated using data measured in situ is generally lower than permitted, i.e. not exceeding 0.5 psu in the near-field of installation. INTRODUCTION Increasing demands for gas storage capacity encouraged Polish Gas and Oil Company (PGNiG) to make use of salt deposits located in the north-eastern part of Poland, in the area bordering on the Puck Bay (the inner part of the Gulf of Gdańsk, South Baltic Sea), to create underground gas stores. A complex of 10 chambers (total volume of 250x106 m3) was designed for construction in Kosakowo, near Gdynia. Owing to local geological conditions, the chambers are created at a depth of 800-1600 m. The construction site (GSS, Figure 1) is located about 4 km away from the Baltic Sea coast. -

Even as a town in the early stage of its development, has merged in itself influ- ences of many cultural circles, which can be traced today by examining an archaeological artefacts. With a view to this phenomenon, the aim of this article is the presentation and analysing of construction of 10th century atypical hull fragments of the early medieval clinker-built boats from the archaeological site no. 3 in Wolin. Examined relics consists of four constructional groups – keel made of pine wood, upper strakes with oarports, planks of unusual cross-sectional shape and these with painted external side. They are a part of a set of 80 shipbuilding elements secondary used in the constructions of harbour quays, recorded during archaeological excavations conducted in 2012-2013. The whole observation is embedded on the wide comparative background enabling indication of similar objects – e.g. the finds dis- covered off the coast of the south Baltic zone and today’s Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Furthermore, the study aims to emphasize the high research value of the heterogeneous set of secondary used planks. On the basis of the observed technical aspects such as raw material, caulking, planks cross-sections, holes for the oars or treatment of the outer sides, there was noted many similarities to the wrecks char- acteristic for both the lands dominated by Slavs and Scandinavians. -
