Serif Newsletter 3 NOVEMBER ISSUE 2018 SMS TIMES SMS Times THE NEWSPAPER OF THE SMS 2018 NATIONAL BLUE COMMUNITY RIBBON SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE SMS TIMES Service Project (about Amazon gift card donation) During the week when November started, St. Mary’s school had a spirit day. In order to wear SMS clothing, students brought in money for Amazon Gift cards to buy school supplies for the badly damaged school from Hurricane Michael, St. John’s school in Panama City, Florida (k-8). Students in every grade of SMS are now making letters to students of the school to comfort the students. In this deed, St. Mary’s earned about $3,000. I admit it. I am a Marvel Geek. I have seen all the movies (multiple times), the new TV series, and scoured the internet for sneak peaks of those to come. So I was just a little bit excited when I was asked to direct this new play from the Marvel Spotlight Series. But Hammered is not just a prequel or origin story. What I love about this play is that it shows characters we have come to know in the movies or comics struggling with real issues and feelings that even non- superheroes can relate to: jealousy, feelings of inadequacy and how to measure up to others' expectations of us. But more than this, Hammered is about love. Thor and Loki are not at all alike, but underneath it all they are brothers and that bond is stronger than their issues. Hammered has a lot to teach about how we love each other in spite of (and even because of) our differences.
