William Orr was the Company’s founding DireCtor of ProduCtions, and EriC DuCkworth was General Manager. After taking over the MerCury Theatre in Phillip Street, William Orr re- opened it as the Phillip Street Theatre in 1954, presenting a series of “Phillip Street Revues” and children's musicals, including Top of the Bill and Hit and Run (both 1954), Willow Pattern Plate (1957), Cross Section (1957-58), Ride on a Broomstick (1959), Mistress Money (1960). These featured many noted Australian performers, many who later went on to beCome well known film, theatre and television personalities, inCluding Gordon Chater, Margot Lee, Barry Creyton, Jill Perryman, Noeline Brown, Robina Beard, Judi Farr, Kevin Miles, Charles "Bud" Tingwell, Ray Barrett, Ruth CraCknell, June Salter, John Meillon, Barry Humphries, Reg Livermore, Peter Phelps, and Gloria Dawn.     Volker Mall, Harald Roth, Johannes Kuhn Die Häftlinge des KZ-Außenlagers Hailfingen/Tailfingen Daten und Porträts aller Häftlinge I A bis K Herrenberg 2020 1 Die Recherchen Die Recherchen von Volker Mall, Harald Roth und Johannes Kuhn dauern nun schon über 15 Jahre. Im Staatsarchiv Ludwigsburg fanden sie in den Akten des Hechinger Prozesses das sog. Natzweiler Nummernbuch1. Die dort enthaltene Namensliste der 600 jüdischen Häftlinge stellte die Basis für alle weiteren personenbezogenen Recherchen dar. Weitere wichtige Quellen waren die Totenmeldungen und das Einäscherungsverzeichnis der 99 im Krematorium in Reutlingen eingeäscherten Opfer2 und 269 Häftlingspersonalkarten aus dem Archiv des KZ Stutthof. Alle diese 269 Häftlinge kamen mit dem Transport im Oktober 1944 von Auschwitz nach Stutthof3. Auf 260 dieser Karten ist jeweils die Auschwitznummer angegeben. Außerdem enthielten die bruchstückhaften Listen des Transportes von Auschwitz nach Stutthof4 Namen und Nummern von ca. 160 Häftlingen, die nach Tailfingen kamen. Unter ihnen „zusätzliche“ 64, deren Häftlingspersonalkarten nicht erhalten sind. Von weiteren 40 Häftlingen (v.a. bei den Überlebenden) konnten die Nummern durch andere Quellen erschlossen werden. So konnten mithilfe des Auschwitzkalendariums5 Datum und Herkunft des Transports von über 350 Häftlingen festgestellt werden. Dazu kommen noch etwa 35 Häftlinge, die nachweislich nach Auschwitz kamen, ohne dass ihre Nummer bekannt ist. (In den Transportlisten Dautmergen- Dachau/Allach werden die Häftlinge unter ihrer Natzweiler-Nummer, in den Hailfinger Totenmeldungen unter der Stutthof-Nummer geführt). Danuta Drywa (Stutthof-Archiv) teilte außerdem die Daten von einigen Häftlingen mit (aus dem Einlieferungsbuch Stutthof), die in verschiedenen Transporten aus dem Baltikum nach Stutthof deportiert wurden und von dort aus nach Hailfingen kamen.

    1 Criminals with Doctorates An SS Officer in the Killing Fields of Russia, as Told by the Novelist Jonathan Littell Henry A. Lea University of Massachusetts-Amherst Lecture Delivered at the University of Vermont November 18, 2009 This is a report about the Holocaust novel The Kindly Ones which deals with events that were the subject of a war crimes trial in Nuremberg. By coincidence I was one of the courtroom interpreters at that trial; several defendants whose testimony I translated appear as major characters in Mr. Littell's novel. This is as much a personal report as an historical one. The purpose of this paper is to call attention to the murders committed by Nazi units in Russia in World War II. These crimes remain largely unknown to the general public. My reasons for combining a discussion of the actual trial with a critique of the novel are twofold: to highlight a work that, as far as I know, is the first extensive literary treatment of these events published in the West and to compare the author's account with what I witnessed at the trial. In the spring of 1947, an article in a Philadelphia newspaper reported that translators were needed at the Nuremberg Trials. I applied successfully and soon found myself in Nuremberg translating documents that were needed for the ongoing cases. After 2 passing a test for courtroom interpreters I was assigned to the so-called Einsatzgruppen Case. Einsatzgruppen is a jargon word denoting special task forces that were sent to Russia to kill Jews, Gypsies, so-called Asiatics, Communist officials and some mental patients.

    Aleksander Ładoś – one of the greatest “Holocaust rescuers” in history We are talking to Jakub Kumoch, Polish ambassador in Switzerland, under the editorship of whom “Lista Ładosia” [“The Ładoś List. A list of names of 3,262 holders of Latin American passports issued to persons of Jewish origin during the Holocaust by the Legation of the Republic of Poland in Switzerland in cooperation with Jewish organizations”] has been published by the Pilecki Institute. We are talking about the precursor actions of the Bern group – called the Ładoś Group – which was a deep-cover state operation to save Jews, the price of human life, and the growing anti-Semitic attitudes around the world. The development of the so-called Ładoś List was proclaimed the greatest Holocaust discovery of recent years. Do you agree with this statement? It is difficult for me to assess my own research work or my team’s work. I am glad that I co-created the list in cooperation with the Institute of National Remembrance, the Jewish Historical Institute, the Pilecki Institute and the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in Oświęcim. I just made my contribution. This is just the beginning of work. We haven’t learned the whole truth yet. We are still missing names on the list. We know – this can be seen from the passport serial numbers – that the Ładoś Group produced more documents than the people we currently have on the list. There were probably eight, maybe 10,000, and the list contains 3,262 names, which is less than 40 percent. Only when Jewish families from all over the world start to speak to us – they have actually started doing this – will we be able to complete the numbers.

PROCEED WITH EXTREME CAUTION. In September of 1941, thousands of Jewish people were living in (and near) the city of Kiev (in Ukraine). The Nazis made a decision to kill those people during their invasion of the Soviet Union. Historians believe the most-documented of the Ukaine atrocities, committed by the Nazis, happened at a ravine known as Babi Yar in the city of Kiev. Sometime around the 26th of September, 1941, an order was posted in Kiev. Its English translation (containing offensive words) is roughly as follows: Yids [Jews] of the city of Kiev and vicinity! On Monday, September 29, you are to appear by 08:00 a.m. with your possessions, money, documents, valuables, and warm clothing at Dorogozhitskaya Street, next to the Jewish cemetery. Failure to appear is punishable by death. People thought this was a resettlement order, and they obeyed it. Instead, about 33,771 Jewish people lost their lives in a single massacre between September 29-30, 1941. Thousands of other people were also executed at the Babi Yar ravine. A monument, located about one mile from the ravine, commemorates the murders of "over 100,000 citizens of Kiev and prisoners of war." This clip - from "War and Remembrance," a critically acclaimed, award-winning mini-series by Dan Curtis - references/recreates those events. Note that Paul Blobel - a key SS Colonel in this clip who was responsible for the Babi-Yar massacre and later spearheaded efforts to eliminate evidence of Nazi atrocities - was later a defendant in the Nuremberg war- crimes trial.
