RECEIVED 0 5 JUL 201Z HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVI8 STANDING COMMITTBI ON INFRASTRUCTURE AND COMMUNICATIONS The Committee Secretary House of Representatives Standing Committee on Infrastructure and Communications P.O.BOX 6021 PARLIAMENT HOUSE CANBERRA ACT 2600 AUSTRALIA, Dear Sir or Madam, A simple, brief and hopefully to the point illustration of the ongoing exploitation of the Australian consumer by the world's largest music retailer, Apple's " i-tunes" I enclose examples of what would be described as a "back catalogue" item with a Nine (9) dollar difference in pricing, with the Australian dollar sitting at parity with the US dollar. This is how it is with most music products, 1000's of pages of submission are not needed, just ask Apple to explain, justify this example , I understand that if Apple set their price and people pay then the argument for it to stop seems weak but their pricing is immoral and exploitative . They know they are the market leader and use their market power to make excessive profits. It seems that they have been guilty of this sort of behaviour in other countries and have been forced to change their pricing, In America they were seen to be charging an unfair price for their sonically inferior product when compared with the CD and were forced to change their pricing. They have been censured recently over their immoral advertising of products and "4G" compatibility Hopefully something can be done to ensure that Australia is not just an easy target for huge corporations like Apple Yours sincerely PAUL BARKER Music a Rock i Warren Zevon Album Review After the release of Warren Zevon's fourth album, Bad Luck Streak in Dancing School, he was clean and sober for the first time years, and on-stage he was determined to make the most of his newrtound strength and self-control.

  • Rock Album Discography Last Up-Date: September 27Th, 2021
Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.

No.3g Tuesday February 24. 1981 Phone 284-4401 UM Spends To Escape The Dark By JEAN CLAUDS dc la FRANC E NeVil Writer An undisclosed amount of money will be made available by the University to improve the lighting on campus following a recent survey made by a commit tee, headed by Vice President for Business Affairs Oli ver Bonnert. Thirty-one separate recommendations were made by the committee, to improve areas where existing lights are inadequate or where new lights are needed to provide better campus security, according to a report released by Ihe physical plant. The committee was mad.' up of student leaders, the staff of the physical plant, and members of public safe ty and of the University's business office. Areas which needed minor repairs or those in need of immediate concern were taken care of within a week after the survey, according to the report. These areas included the immediate vicinity of the towers and the path from the Rathskeller to the tow ers. Most of the existing light bulbs around the towers were destroyed by vandalism, according to the report. The power lines which serviced lights around Lake Osceola and the Rathskeller path were ruptured when the sprinkler system was installed, and maintenance had failed to do the repairs. Undergraduate Siudent Body Government Execu tive Secretary for University Affairs, Joy Hodges, who was one of the organizers of the survey committee commented that one of the problems wus negligent.' "There is no reason why we should have so many problems at once," Hodges said.
