9. Symposium Logistik Innovativ 2016 60 years success story of the ISO standard container in Combined Transport (CT) How can these successes be transferred to standard semi-trailers in CT and how can the branch benefi t from the digitalisation? Prien am Chiemsee 3-4 May 2016 Welcome note Dear Sirs, Freight traffi c continuously grows both in Germany and Bavaria. Forecasts show that the traffi c performance will increase by about 50 percent until 2025. This challenge needs to met by manifold solution approaches. The strengthening of Combined Trans- port is one way to reduce CO2 emissions - by shifting freight from road to rail. Exactly 60 years ago, the transport branch and the whole world changed in a sustainable way with the invention of the container. Since 1956, this loading unit ranks as a worldwide standard at the maritime transport. In comparison to the successes reached in the maritime transport, the European land transport is still in its very early stages. Here, the semi-trailer is the transport unit of the future. A standard like for the container is not yet defi ned. The 9. Symposium Logistik Innovativ „60 years success story of the ISO standard container in Combined Transport (CT) - How can these successes be transferred to standard semi-trailers in CT and how can the branch benefi t from the digitalization?” shall show opportunities to develop standards which equally consider the require- ments of road and rail. High class representatives from practice take a stand to the topic „Compatible semi-trailers for road and rail“. For the fi rst time, the Symposium brings together experts and stakeholders from commercial vehicle industry, rail- way operators, wagon manufactures, terminals, carriers and forwarders as well as politics. It offers a perfect platform for the exchange of practical information and inno- vations in Combined Transport. I wish the event a successful course and I am looking forward to welcoming you at the Symposium „Logistik Innovativ 2016“ in Prien am Chiemsee. With your participation in the 9. Symposium „Logistik Innovativ 2016“ you are travelling to one of the most beautiful areas of Bavaria. The Chiemsee lake, which is called the „Bavarian Sea“, is a worldwide known travel destination. With the meeting venue on the island Herreninsel the LKZ Prien GmbH made a perfect choice. The island Herreninsel is the biggest and most well-known one of the three Chiemsee-islands and can be reached by ships of the Chiemsee-Schiff- fahrt. The island is well known worldwide because of the „fairytale king“ Ludwig II. Modelled on Versailles, this palace was built as a »Temple of Fame« in memory of King Louis XIV of France, whom the Bavarian monarch fervently admired. With the visit of the Castle you can see for yourself the fascinating architecture! Maybe you have the possibility to stay some more days in the region after the Symposium? A perfect opportunity would be the visit of the neighboring island Fraueninsel (island of the women) with its unique artists’ colony and monas- tery Frauenchiemsee.
