A person is now eligible to secure a class M or MJ license provided that he or she is the holder of a valid “New York driver’s license, and has successfully completed the 15-hour “Basic RiderCourse®” developed by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF). The course must be completed at a DMV/MSF approved training site. The course includes a written test and a skills test which must be passed, and the individual must have a motorcycle permit in order to receive the waiver. The approved MSF course is offered in New York State through the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF).
