Biotech companies have paved the way for specialized marketing approaches for orphan diseases since the early 1990s. Some companies have developed life-changing therapies that truly change disease states. Today, biotech/pharma leaders have jumped in. But can all companies large and small find the focus for these orphan diseases and put the patient first? What are the obstacles associated with creating a specialized marketing and sales effort for orphan drugs? Gain critical understanding of how companies are employing specialized marketing and sales approaches that are patient-centric. Speakers on the panel include: Kyle Brown Founder & CEO of Innolyst Jayne Gershokowitz, Senior Director of Patient Advocacy & Public Policy of Amicus Therapeutics Mark Rothera, Global President of Aegerion Pharmaceuticals Rogerio Vivaldi, SVP and Head of Rare Disease Business Unit of Genzyme Using Systems Biology to "Fast-Track" Development and Approval of Novel Therapeutics and Diagnostics When: Thursday, June 21st, 2012, 10:00 am - 11:30 am. Where: Boston Convention & Exhibition Center Overview of Systems Biology and how its application can determine more precisely and quickly which biomarkers are relevant to specific diseases for diagnosis or therapeutic intervention. This approach can also determine subgroups or different genotypes within these diseases in developing a diagnostic test that will determine whether a patient will respond to a specific drug with minimal side effects. Drugs can now be targeted for a specific set of patients resulting in higher efficacy. In return, the FDA requirements for the number of patients required for the phase I-III trials may be smaller, the cost and time for R&D will be reduced and the approval time will be shorter.
