7 CHEF’S It is hard to believe that we have been offering Veritas Market for over 6 months. When we CORNER started the program back in April our goal was to provide members with a safe and easy way to pick up restaurant quality ingredients to cook at home during a very difficult time.

The Market became so popular that we have expanded our offerings and continue to provide this service to our members. We have fresh local seafood, organic Bell and Evans chicken and high quality meats. We change the selection weekly to offer seasonal fruits and vegetables as well as some hard to find artisan products. We offer spice mixes and house-made sauces that pair well with our menu and offer cooking tips for all of the items.

You can place your order on our app beginning Friday at 2:00 pm through Wednesday at 12:00 pm for pick up on the following Friday between 11am and 6pm.

This year we are happy to provide members with something different for our Thanksgiving feast. You may order a full Thanksgiving meal in small, medium and large sizes to feed your guests in the comfort of your own home. Pick up is available Wednesday, November 25th and your meal is ready to be heated and served for Thanksgiving.

Stay Healthy,

BOOK CLUB

Tuesday, November 10, 2020 6:30 pm Book Discussion Virtual Meeting

This month’s selection is Caste by Isabel Wilkerson.

In this brilliant book, Isabel Wilkerson gives us a masterful portrait of an unseen phenomenon in America as she explores, through an immersive, deeply researched narrative and stories about real people, how America today and throughout its history has been shaped by a hidden caste system, a rigid hierarchy of human rankings.

Beyond race, class, or other factors, there is a powerful caste system that influences people’s lives and behavior and the nation’s fate. Linking the caste systems of America, India, and Nazi Germany, Wilkerson explores eight pillars that underlie caste systems across civilizations, including divine will, bloodlines, stigma, and more. Using riveting stories about people—including Martin Luther King, Jr., baseball’s Satchel Paige, a single father and his toddler son, Wilkerson herself, and many others—she shows the ways that the insidious undertow of caste is experienced every day.

The miracle of the supermarket has never been more apparent. Like the doctors and nurses who care for the sick, suddenly the men and women who stock our shelves and operate our warehouses are understood as ‘essential’ workers, providing a quality of life we all too easily take for granted. But the sad truth is that the grocery industry has been failing these workers for decades.

In this page-turning expose, author Benjamin Lorr pulls back the curtain on the highly secretive grocery industry. Combining deep sourcing, immersive reporting, and sharp, often laugh-out-loud prose, Lorr leads a wild investigation, asking what does it take to run a supermarket? How does our food get on the shelves? And who suffers for our increasing demands for convenience and efficiency?

Registration for this event is required to ensure you are provided the details for the virtual meeting via Zoom.

ASSISTING CLUB EMPLOYEES (ACE) FUND The global COVID-19 pandemic has forced the Harvard Club to temporarily close, and this has presented significant challenges for some of our employees. In recent weeks, a number of our members have asked how they can help the most vulnerable among our staff.

To offer support to our employees, we have created the Harvard Club with A Heart: Assisting Club Employees (ACE) Fund. The ACE Fund will help provide our employees with assistance during this challenging time when operations have been suspended. Every member of our Board of Governors and the senior management staff is supporting this fund. As of November 1, 2020, the ACE Fund has received $207,000 in donations.
