Dear state officials,

As leaders of businesses in the clean energy sector — including companies working in solar energy, energy efficiency, green building design and construction, clean heating, sustainable consulting and electrical installation — we support the 100% Renewable Energy Act (H.2836, S.1958).

Today, Massachusetts is using much more energy than necessary to power our homes and businesses, heat our buildings, and transport people and goods. Our reliance on oil and gas is polluting our air, harming our health, and changing our climate.

Fortunately, we have the resources and the technology to reduce our use of energy and transition to clean, renewable resources like solar and wind power. We can envision a future where our electricity, heating, and transportation are powered with 100% renewable energy.

Massachusetts’ thriving clean energy industry, with more than 110,000 workers, is ready and willing to help put the Commonwealth on a path to 100% renewable energy. By investing in clean, local sources of energy, we can build stronger communities and a more resilient region.

A growing number of cities, states, major businesses and institutions have committed to 100% renewable energy targets. If we fail to set similar goals in Massachusetts, we risk falling behind other states that are moving rapidly to expand clean energy.

Massachusetts has a long record of leadership on clean energy. Now is the time to set our sights high.

The 100% Renewable Energy Act will power Massachusetts with 100% renewable electricity by 2035 and transition heating and transportation to 100% renewable energy sources by 2045. We encourage you to do everything in your power to advance this critical legislation.

Sincerely,
