Early British Pottery RESUME OF THE PAST FIELD MEETINGS OF THE UNION, 1893-1905. Believing that members, who have recently joined the Union> will find some little interest in knowing where field meetings have been held in the past, and that old members will not be displeased to be reminded of what districts have been visited, this resume has been drawn up. The information contained in it will also be of some use in making future arrangements for visiting the varied surface of our wide county. On June 12th, 1893, the first Field meeting was held at MABLETHORPE — a great day for lovers of nature. Many county naturalists, and also neighbours from adjacent counties, lent their aid in making the opening day a success. The out- come was the formation of the Lincolnshire Naturalists' Union, as now constituted. The second meeting was held on August 7th, at WOOD- H.\LL SPA, and a goodly number of species were recorded. May 24th, 1894, found the members at LINCOLN. The bank of the Fossdyke and Hartsholme \^^ood were investigated, and a general meeting was held in the evening. SUMMARY: The present-day brachiopods from the Mediterranean Sea were thoroughly described by nineteenth-century workers, to the extent that Logan’s revision in 1979 listed the same 11 species as Davidson, almost 100 years earlier. Since then recent discoveries, mainly from cave habitats inaccessible to early workers, have increased the number of species to 14. The validity of additional forms, which are either contentious or based on scanty evidence, is evaluated here. Preferred substrates and approximate bio-depth zones of all species are given and their usefulness for paleoecological reconstruction is discussed. A previous dearth of material from the eastern Mediterranean has now been at least partially remedied by new records from the coasts of Cyprus, Israel, Egypt, and, in particular, Lebanon and the southern Aegean Sea. While 11 species (79 % of the whole fauna) have now been recorded from the eastern basin, Terebratulina retusa, Argyrotheca cistellula, Megathiris detruncata and Platidia spp. -

Abstract The early Silurian reefs of the Attawapiskat Formation in the Hudson Bay Basin preserved the oldest record of major invasion of the coral-stromatoporoid skeletal reefs by brachiopods and other marine shelly benthos, providing an excellent opportunity for studying the early evolution, functional morphology, and community organization of the rich and diverse reef-dwelling brachiopods. Biometric and multivariate analysis demonstrate that the reef-dwelling Pentameroides septentrionalis evolved from the level- bottom-dwelling Pentameroides subrectus to develop a larger and more globular shell. -

New record of Novocrania (Brachiopoda, Craniida) from Madeira, with notes on Recent brachiopod occurrences in the Macaronesian archipelagos ALAN LOGAN, PETER WIRTZ & FRANK SWINNEN Logan, A., P. Wirtz & F. Swinnen, 2007. New record of Novocrania (Brachiopoda, Craniida) from Madeira, with notes on Recent brachiopod occurrences in the Macaronesian archipelagos. Arquipélago. Life and Marine Sciences 24: 17-22. The inarticulated brachiopod Novocrania anomala (Müller) is recorded for the first time from Madeira Island, bringing the total of living species for that area to six. Updated comparisons of Recent brachiopod diversities between the Macaronesian archipelagos show similar values for Madeira, the Cape Verde Islands and the Azores but higher values for the Canary Islands. Comparisons are also made between shallow-water cave and crevice communities in Madeira, the Canary Islands and the Cape Verde Islands, where dense populations of one or two brachiopod species are thriving in cryptic habitats where competition for space and resources is presumably reduced. No such occurrences have yet been found in the Azores.
