PM Tutor Empowering Excellence PM tutor Empowering Excellence Our Project Management Profile POeT Solvers Ltd was founded in 2004 as a social enterprise focus on human capacity development for graduates of tertiary institution in Nigeria. In order to fulfill its vision of empowering excellence in Nigerian graduates, it involves in trade business, workshops, seminars and blogs to create positive change to the intellectual and cultural landscape of Nigeria. Existing studies on Yorùbá wood-carving have concen -Yorùbá existed independently for a long time. This study, therefore, identified extant Yorùbá examined areas of divergence in the artistic production of the people. - wood-carvers, priests and adherents of some Yorùbá traditional religion who use wooden paraphernalia in their worship. Direct observation was used to collect data on iconographic features of wooden religious paraphernalia such as ọpón-Ifá (divination board), agere-Ifá (palm-nut bowl), ìróké-Ifá (divination board-tapper), osé-Ṣà Ṣà ‟ ère-ìbejì (twin figurines), and egúngún and gèlèdé masks. The interviews were content-analysed, while the paraphernalia were subjected to iconographic, semiotic and comparative analyses. UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN LIBRARY Opón-Ifá, agere-Ifá, ìróké-Ifá, osé-Ṣà and ère-ìbejì Gèlèdé ìróké-Ifá, agere-Ifá and osé-Ṣà shared similar iconographic fe by the top, middle and base sections. Their middle sections bore a variety of iii images, while the top and base sections were fixed. In all the three communities, the face of Èsù, usually represented on ọpón-Ifá, was the only constant feature on divination trays. Other depictions on the tray varied from zoomorphic and anthropomorphic to abstract motifs.

This is the same month the convention establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) came into force 51 years ago.1 World IP Day was established in wake of the 21st century to "raise awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks and designs impact on daily life" and "to celebrate creativity and the contribution made by creators and innovators to the development of societies across the globe".2 WIPO's mission is "to lead the development of a balanced and effective international intellectual property (IP) system that enables innovation and creativity for the benefit of all."3 This year’s World IP Day is themed Powering Change: Women in Innovation and Creativity. I am happy to be here today to join the Friends of the Creator Foundation and friends of the Foundation to celebrate women powering change through innovation and creativity in Nigeria. Fela Anikulapo Kuti, the late Afro Beat king, personified those that ardently criticised Nigerian leaders, especially the military. Songs like, “Zombie,” “V.I.P. (Vagabonds in Power),” “Unknown Soldier,” and “Beasts of No Nation,” lampooned the military mentality, likening them to robots that are remotely controlled. Sonny Okosun added his voice to the condemnation of the Apartheid regime in South Africa through his music. Tracks like “Fire in Soweto” and “Liberation,” were some of the pungent messages on the ills of Apartheid. This was just as his “Which Way Nigeria,” was a critical comment on the political direction of the Nigerian ship of state. In an era, where pop music has taken over the entertainment scene in Nigeria, and indeed the world, one thing that is worrisome is that most of the lyrics of songs have little or nothing to offer society, in the sense that they are just “all sound and no message for listeners”. But then, the approach of Adviser Nowamagbe, an Edo State born musician, is interesting.     25 Influence of MTN’S Project Fame Reality TV Show on the Social life of Youth Yahaya MUHAMMAD & Alice JONAH Department of Mass Communication, The Federal Polytechnic Bida Abstract This study investigated the influence of MTN Project Fame reality TV show on the social life of youth from Lagos State. Four research questions guided the study with survey as the research design. Using a multi-stage sampling technique, a sample size of 384 was drawn from Lagos Island, Ikorodu and Mushin. With the aid of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), simple percentages, Mean standard deviation and Chi-Square test of independence were used for the analysis. Findings showed that even though the exposure to the programme is very frequent, the extent to which it influences the social life of youth was found to be low. This result largely contradicts most of the reviewed studies and also has implications on the social category and cultivation theories. The researcher recommends, among others, that further studies should be expanded to cover more states in Nigeria so as to allow for the generalization of the result. This is arguably because of the impact of TV contents, unlike radio combine both visual and audio elements. That is to say that TV has the capacity to show as well as demonstrate its contents. What this means is that TV contents posses powerful potential for changing the behaviour of viewers, perhaps, more than any other medium of mass communication.
