The smiles were big as the group walked over to the Carolina hardhats on top of shovels dug into the dirt. They joked and laughed and as the shovels plummeted into the soft ground, a sense of relief washed over the faces of those involved as the new era of the South Carolina Law School was started. Friday, the ground breaking was held at the new site of the law school on the corner of Senate and Bull streets. There will now be a mandatory 18 months of construction along with other renovations and the fi nal touches to get the building ready for students to start taking classes in 2017.

MISSOURI • Continued from 1 overtime following the Tigers’ comeback. A failed attempt at two points would have left South Carolina in virtually the same position the extra point did. Missouri’s 14 fourth-quarter points highlighted one of the great defensive collapses in recent memory for the Gamecocks. The South Carolina defense held Missouri to 152 yards through three quarters. The Tigers fi nished the game with 280. “We should’ve stayed focused on the game,” redshirt sophomore Gerald Dixon said. “I feel like we took it as we won the game already. We shouldn’t have, and we’ve got to start focusing more at the end of the game.” Dixon, along with much of the South Carolina defense, had a monster Kamila Melko / THE DAILY GAMECOCK game up until Missouri’s comeback Guest picker Kenny Chesney picked effort.
