Up and down the country, schools, libraries, bookshops and arts centres will offer young readers a chance to meet their favourite authors and illustrators, through a wealth of events from readings, talks and workshops to storytelling sessions and competitions. To kick off the celebrations Children’s Books Ireland is publishing this new edition of BookFest, a free recommended reading guide, produced with the support of publishers and booksellers in Ireland and the UK. BookFest is designed to help you navigate your way through a year’s worth of children’s books, as it maps out the best titles of 2010 (some released in late 2009). Romance, historical novels, picturebooks, poetry, science, humour, adventure, horror… BookFest will take you into all the lands of fiction and non-fiction. The age categories used in this guide are by no means fixed borders and you should feel free to draw your own lines. BookFest is all about great books and, like a good book, we hope you will see it as a special place: a place to discover, to explore, to meet old friends and make new ones.
