This tour explores the lands & legacy of Ibsen, HC Andersen, Pippi Longstocking, Scandic-noir thrillers, Roald Dahl, Nobel Prize winners and more. Overview Lectures and site visits by Susannah Fullerton, President of the Jane Austen Society of Australia, with the assistance of Russell Casey. Evening performance of Peer Gynt at Lake Gålåvatnet. Henrik Ibsen wrote the verse play in 1867, inspired by stories from the Gudbrand valley in Norway. The accompanying music is inspired by Edvard Grieg’s original theatre music. A guided walk around Bergen in Norway with award-winning crime writer Gunnar Staalesen, following in the footsteps of his detective character Varg Veum. Dinner at The Den Gyldene Freden, the place where every Thursday the Academy (who nominate the winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature) convene. Knut Hamsun was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature for his novel Growth of the Soil in 1920. In Grimstad we enjoy a 6-course banquet, a replica of the meal served at Nobel Prize award ceremonies. Wonderful Astrid Lindgren visits, as we get to know more about the creator of Pippi Longstocking, seeing the towns where she set her books, and taking a look at the Lindgren archive with a renowned archivist guiding our visit. Information and conditions for events at the Nobel Prize Museum Welcome to the Nobel Laureates' very own museum. In a truly unique environment, you can combine inspirational experiences with good food and beverages. General Being a museum, Nobel Prize Museum is not rented out for events that require extensive on-site rigging or dancing. Since the museum must be considerate of other tenants and is located in a residential area, playing excessively loud music during an event is not allowed. The music must always be approved by Nobel Prize Museum’s event department. The museum's interior or exterior may not be changed in any way during an event. Any rigging must always be approved by the Museum’s Event Department. See more information under entertainment /technical equipment. The space During events, with or without refreshments, the client is renting the entire museum. Because of this, Nobel Prize Museum charges a baseline cost, or “arrangement cost”. The Situation in Yemen The Security Council is the international community's most powerful institution dedicated to maintaining peace and security. The Council may issue both binding and non-binding resolutions, release presidential statements, commission reports by the Secretary-General, and authorize peacekeeping or humanitarian missions, among other actions. The Council’s unique legal authority and broad reach makes it the leader of the international community’s efforts to maintain international peace and security. This Background Guide serves as an introduction to the topics on the agenda. However, it is not meant to be the only resource for your research. We invite you to conduct additional research, explore your Member State’s position in-depth, and examine the policies of other Member States to facilitate negotiations and consensus building. The (annotated) bibliography can help you with your initial research and may lead you to other relevant sources. Speaker’s manuscript – All Nobel Prizes 2020 The Nobel Prize • Before Alfred Nobel died on 10 December 1896, he wrote in his will that the bulk of his fortune should be used for prizes to "those who, during the preceding year, shall have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind". The Nobel Prizes 2020 • According to Alfred Nobel’s will the bulk of his fortune should be divided into five parts and to be used for prizes in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and peace. • The first Nobel Prizes were awarded in 1901. • In the late 1960s, Sveriges Riksbank (Sweden's central bank) established the Economic Sciences Prize in memory of Alfred Nobel. • The Economic Sciences Prize is awarded at the same time as the Nobel Prize, as part of the same ceremony on 10 December every year. The 2020 Nobel Laureates • The Nobel Prizes are announced at the beginning of October every year. In 2020, one organisation and 11 men and women were awarded a Nobel Prize.
