For more than a decade, Norton Center Executive Director Steve Hoffman has brought you blockbuster stars like Dolly Parton, Greg Allman, and Kool and The Gang. More importantly to him, he’s delivered a treasure trove of rich and diverse arts experiences from around the globe directly to Danville, Kentucky. Thanks to Hoffman’s crusade to engage the community with new cultural flavors and possibilities, Che Malambo (Argentina), Fatoumata Diawara (Mali), Circus Oz (Australia), Ballet Folklorico de Bahia (Brazil), Yamato Drummers (Japan), and international orchestras from Russia, Germany, Italy, and Vienna—just to name a few—have all delighted Norton Center audiences. “Bringing the world to Danville opens people’s eyes to so many new and exciting cultures,” Hoffman said. “And these performances, along with opportunities to engage one-on-one with the artists, help people realize that we share so many of the same inherently human values regardless of the differences presented by our geographic location, race, religion, or ethnicity.” Oftentimes, Hoffman pairs diverse genres like dance with live music, classical music with spoken word, and jazz with Steven A.
