November 2020 Experience | 5 News Producer, Host, and Reporter Barbara Cariddi Retires Long-time Maine Public News Producer, Host, and Reporter Barbara Cariddi retired this fall. Cariddi grew up in Biddeford and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English from the University of Southern Maine and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School. She originally joined Maine Public in 1989 and left in 1994 for WCSH6-TV in Portland. In 1999, Cariddi returned to Maine Public and began producing, reporting and anchoring Maine Public Television’s public affairs program MaineWatch. Cariddi then focused her work on the radio news side, hosting Maine Things Considered and reporting on stories across Maine. Most recently she has helped oversee digital news content for Maine Public’s website and produced and hosted Maine Public’s daily news podcast This Day in Maine. “Barbara’s career at Maine Public is an example of a true multi-media journalist. She’s reported TV stories in Maine’s natural spaces and hosted television programs, including MaineWatch, anchored Maine Things Considered radio broadcasts, and pushed our digital reporting forward,” stated Mark Simpson, Maine Public’s Director of News and Public Affairs. “We wish her the very best in her retirement as she carves new paths ahead.” I Maine Public On-Air Hosts Say Farewell Robin Rilette Off to New Adventures! Robin, host of Morning Classical and Maine Public’s Director of Music and Creative Performance, recently retired. She joined Maine Public from Northwest Public Radio in Washington State where she was the Music Director for 23 years. As Maine Public’s Music Director, Rilette was instrumental in helping Maine Public build out its classical radio service and entertained Maine for over six years as the host of Morning Classical. Robin’s easy-going style and love of music quickly made her show a listener favorite.

A goodbye message from Robin Rilette: “Architecture as art, a streak of russet as a fox flashes by, landscapes both majestic and charming, the sweet spring welcome of the peepers, the stunning colors of autumn, the jackhammer sounds of a pileated woodpecker, the soaring white steeples and the late summer farewell of the chirping cricket. These are some of the sights and sounds that make Maine such a special place in which to work and live. And, of course the “let me help you with that neighbor” attitude that results in the formation of a new classical music network right here in Maine. It’s been my privilege and pleasure to be part of Maine Public Classical and to share music with you for the past six years and eight months. Thank you and let’s keep the music coming!” In Tune Host Sara Willis Calls It a Wrap The long-time host and producer of In Tune, Sara Willis retired last month and while her programming will continue on Maine Public Radio and online for the foreseeable future, Sara will no longer be hosting and curating new programs. Working from her studio in Blue Hill, Sara’s love of the music she played came across to her listeners loud and clear. To quote DownEast Magazine, “In Tune… probably should have been rendered obsolete by Pandora, Spotify, and iTunes playlists. However, host Sara Willis outperforms any Pandora algorithm in the art of creating the perfect playlist. While online stations offer predictable suggestions, like R.E.M. based on your interest in U2, Willis will teach you that, actually, Tom Jones and Vampire Weekend are a match made in heaven.” In 2018, Maine Public launched the In Tune with Sara Willis audio stream allowing fans of the show 24/7 access to music curated by the host.

A goodbye message from Sara Willis: “I want to thank the wonderful listeners of Maine Public Radio for 19 great years of listening to music together on both sides of the radio. Without your love of music, wide ranging appreciation, and open ears, there would have been no point. As Willie Nelson says, (and who better to quote?) ‘you were always on my mind.’ I will miss sharing new music and remembering the old with you. It’s been a perfect partnership and again, thank you. With love!” I
