ProjectDescription DalyDitchesIrrigationDistrict[DDID][Hamilton] wastherecipientof$290,000inAmericanRein vestmentandRecoveryAct[ARRA]fundsin 2009.Thisfundingwasusedtoreplaceanaged timberdiversiondamontheBitterroot southofHamilton. Thisprojectconsistedofreplacingtheexisting timberframediversiondamwithamoresolid damconsistingofa6’vertical,subsurfacecon cretewallsupportinga6’verticalgroutedrock wall.Thisnewstructureservedtostabilizethe riverbankatitsinterfacewithacanaladjacentto theBitterrootRiver,bypassinganuphillspring runningbeneaththecanal,thusenablingcontin uedfunctioningofthedam. ProjectDescription TheDuckCreekDamrestsinPetroleumCounty, 1.5mileseastofBlakesleeRoad.Theprojectun dertakenatthissitewastoremoveanexisting damstructure,andreplaceitwithareinforced earthenstructure,therebyensuringthecontinued safetyoflocalresidentsandtravelersalongtwo separatecountyroads. Thesurfaceareaofthedammeasures125acres, whilethestoragecapacityofthedamregisters 702acrefeet.ThisprojectwasfundedwithAmeri canReinvestmentandRecoveryAct[ARRA]funds augmentingBLMDeferredMaintenanceProgram [DMP]funding. Ina2001studyofthestructure,theBLMidenti fiedtheDuckCreekDamasa“HighHazard”struc ture.Annualclimatecycleshadledtotheeventual erosionanddeteriorationofthisstructure,neces sitatingitscontinuousrepair.Thisdetermination wasbaseduponthedams’locationrestingupgra dientfromtwocountyroads,TeigenRoadand WelterDivideRoad,theformerofwhichservesas aruralbusroute.
