  • Printmakers Presspack
THE PRINTMAKERS “In the old days, this band would have had the words “All-Stars” in their name. Every one of them is a leading figure in British contemporary jazz. Together, they create 10 evocative sound-pictures of places and times. It’s remarkable how just five instruments and voice can suggest space and depth as they do.” Dave Gelly, The Observer The word supergroup is common currency, especially in the rock world. Jazz, of course, has its fair share of supergroups too. Sometimes, one supergroup comes along that really is very special indeed. The Printmakers is such a group. The group formed at the instigation of Steve Mead at The Manchester Jazz Festival several years ago and since then has gone from strength to strength. Award winning Nikki Iles is one of the heroines of British jazz. She has made an invaluable contribution to the jazz scene in this country and beyond, while also making a very personal musical statement in many groups, not least her own superb Anglo-American trio with Rufus Reid and Jeff Williams. Grammy nominated and ECM recording artist Norma Winstone MBE, pioneering innovator of the voice, has been a leading light in European music for many years. She collaborated with Kenny Wheeler and John Taylor in Azimuth, described by Richard Williams as “one of the most imaginatively conceived and delicately balanced of all contemporary chamber jazz groups“. She has also worked with Fred Hersch, Steve Swallow, Jimmy Rowles, Mike Gibbs and Ralph Towner. She has had a resurgence recently, with three superb award winning ECM releases in collaboration with European musicians, Klaus Gesing and Glauco Venier.

  • Sid Peacock & Surge
Sid Peacock & Surge Surge is a 16 piece Big Band made up of musicians from folk, world, jazz and classical backgrounds. Our music is exciting, uplifting, kaleidoscopic, disorientating, warm, funny and highly emotional modern big band music! Photo: Russ Escritt youthful vitality not heard since Django Bates and Loose Tubes raised Ronnie Scott’s rafters a generation ago......there’s a spirit of daring “”about the music and moments of real beauty too......truly an orchestral achievement. ***** London Evening Standard www.sidpeacock.com New album “La Fête” available now +44 (0) 7789 933 131 from Peacockangell Records [email protected] www.peacockangell.com Sid Peacock is the son of a shipyard worker, born in Bangor Northern Ireland. His music practice began in his teens playing in rockabilly and garage bands, as well as busking in the London Underground. Whilst working as a library assistant he learnt music theory from books and then went on to study at North Down College, Bretton Hall, Birmingham Conservatoire and Ulster University. “Sid Peacock is already one of the most exciting composers in that difficult-to-define area between jazz, -con temporary music and improv. His original take on big band jazz is the one that predominates and there is always in his music an energy and groove that makes it both accessible and attention holding. One can hear the influence of Django Bates’ writing for Loose Tubes, Delightful Precipice and StoRMChaser, but with other other influences from contemporary composers such as Brian Irvine and an ability to create wild and quirky big band improvisations, Sid Peacock’s is a truly original voice.

Jazz Collection: Django Bates - britische Wundertüte Dienstag, 13. Oktober 2020, 21.00 – 22.00 Uhr, SRF 2 Kultur Samstag, 17. HAWKWOOD Artist Residency Programme 2018 Supported by The Francis W Reckitt Arts Trust “Engaging for the heart and soul – loved it. Phenomenal harmonies, touching stories beautifully conveyed, and a powerful message for today.” Audience member on the show Truth, created at Hawkwood Artists Residencies 2018 Impact Report 1 The 2018 residency programme at Hawkwood, supported by The Francis W Reckitt Arts Trust has had an incredible impact on the artists we have supported and has enhanced Hawkwood’s reputation as a place to come and create work. This report gives an overview of the artists and projects which have been developed in 2018, supported by The Francis W Reckitt Arts Trust and Hawkwood. In the last year, we have worked with individual artists as well as groups of artists who have come together. We have welcomed a broad range of creative people from diverse backgrounds working on extraordinary projects and have partnered with regional and national organisations. 109 artists supported 41 musicians 49 devised theatre practitioners 4 dancers 6 writers 2 costume designers 3 puppeteers 2 visual artists 1 rapper 1 cross disciplinary artist 14 new works created 4 national tours In addition to the artists mentioned in this report, we also welcomed five former Mount Pleasant artists. We delivered the programme by working with excellent organisations known for supporting new work including Strike A Light, Bristol Old Vic, The Royal Court Theatre and The London Theatre Consortium. Approximately 14 new works were created with many groups coming together for the first time. Some works were at a more advanced stage and four of these went on to be performed nationally including performances at The Cheltenham Music festival, Strike A Light and performances in London via English Touring Opera amongst many others.
