Abur Participation in sport provides different forms of capital for all, but particularly for those with refugee backgrounds who are facing settlement Victoria University in Melbourne, issues. For people with social isolation and other social issues, participation in sport can be a tool that assists those young people by providing physical benefits, a social network (thus breaking social isolation) and sometimes a form of income as a result of being noticed as a good player. Participating in sport can thus be a rewarding experience, particularly for young people, in overcoming settlement challenges.

    Mathematical Models for Cricket Team Selection Hamish Thorburn Dr Michael Forbes The University of Queensland 26/02/2015 1 1 Abstract An attempt was made to try and select the Australian Test Cricket Team for then-upcoming series against India in December-January 2014-2015. Data was collected pertaining to 37 Australian cricket players, relating to both recent form (the 12 months prior to commencement of the project) and career form across multiple formats of the game. The team was selected using a mixed-integer- programming (MIP) model, after processing the statistics collected to create usable parameters for the model. It was found that the team selected by the MIP model shared only 5 of the 11 players with the actual team selected by the Australian Board of Selectors to compete in the series. When altering parameters of the model, it was found that the batting diversity of the team could be doubled while only losing 0.008 of the available talent of selected players. The reduced costs were calculated to determine how close unselected players were to being selected, and what they would have to increase their batting/bowling averages to be considered for selection. Finally, we compared the ICC player ratings to our calculated batting and bowling indices, to try to determine the optimal weighting between the different statistics. It was found that batting average was most important in batting performance (but was more important in test matches than one-day matches) and that bowling average and economy were equally important in bowling performance. 2 Introduction 2.1 The Game of Cricket Cricket is a sport composing of opposing teams of 11 players each side.

If you are one of the 30,000 cars traveling each day along Oxley rd in Brisbane’s wests, you cannot help but notice the picturesque and iconic Graceville Memorial Park with its heritage listed grandstand and white picket fenced ovals. Since 1924, Graceville Memorial Park has been the home of one of Brisbane’s oldest and most successful cricket clubs, the Western Suburbs District Cricket Club “Wests” – the mighty Bulldogs. This year saw wests turn 100 with a Centenary Luncheon taking place on the hallowed turf of Graceville Memorial Park. Wests is a strong and successful club providing the summer sport option for the community of the western suburbs. WSDCC has eight men’s teams, two women’s teams and two youth teams playing in the Queensland Premier Competitions. We also have a junior playing base of over 400 which feeds into our Wests+Plus Academy program for our developing juniors and a vibrant club community of approximately 1,200 people. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to partner with this great club and our great sport of cricket.     ECONOMICS AND GOVERNANCE COMMITTEE 2021 ESTIMATES PRE-HEARING QUESTION ON NOTICE No. 1 THE ECONOMICS AND GOVERNANCE COMMITTEE ASKED THE MINISTER FOR TOURISM INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT AND INNOVATION AND MINISTER FOR SPORT (HON S HINCHLIFFE) ― QUESTION: With reference to page 4 of the Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport Service Delivery Statements, and the reference to promoting long term growth to the tourism industry, will the Minister provide an update on the Year of Indigenous Tourism? ANSWER: On 19 July 2020, the Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk MP, Premier and Minister for Trade, extended the Year of Indigenous Tourism to 2021 due to the impacts of COVID-19. The Palaszczuk Government is investing $10 million over two years for Indigenous tourism development and growth as part of the Year of Indigenous Tourism. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tourism experiences are an iconic part of Queensland’s tourism sector and a strong economic driver, as the sector supported $505 million in visitor expenditure and employed nearly 2500 people on a full-time basis before the COVID-19 pandemic. Key initiatives of the Year of Indigenous Tourism include: • $7 million Growing Indigenous Tourism in Queensland Fund • Our Country Tourism Business Development Service • Advance Queensland One Business program, for Indigenous business innovators and entrepreneurs • Indigenous experience, marketing, festivals and events • The scoping of the potential to establish a peak Indigenous tourism body. Under the Growing Indigenous Tourism in Queensland Fund, 24 businesses received funding of up to $25 000 to develop business concepts and feasibility studies for new growth of Indigenous tourism product or experiences, while nine businesses received funding of up to $1 million to deliver a new tourism attraction, experience or built infrastructure.

It will be a testing Trials in more ways than one - for swimmers, coaches and event staff as they work round the clock to give the class of 2020-21 a crack at their Olympic and Paralympic dreams.
