2020 NATIONAL INCLUSION CHAMPIONSHIPS

GEELONG, VIC 13 - 17 JAN 2020 Our support means Australia’s all-abilities teams are now fully funded.

To find out more visit commbank.com.au/cricket CRICKET AUSTRALIA WELCOME Cricket Australia is proud to support the 2019 National Cricket Inclusion Championships in Geelong, . At a time when one in five Australians are living with a disability, the NCIC provides cricketers who have an intellectual disability; are blind or have low vision or are deaf and hard of hearing a chance to represent their State. These championships allow players to put their best foot forward towards national selection in our national disability squads. Cricket plays a key role in so many lives. Representing your State/Territory is a tremendous honour, but to do so alongside other cricketers identified as the best players in the nation is particularly special, which is one of the reasons these championships are so significant. In 2019, the NCIC are being held in Geelong for the fourth consecutive year. More than 200 cricketers and role models, will come together to compete and inspire people across Australia. Following the inaugural exhibition match in a Deaf and Hard of Hearing women’s division last season, this year we’ll see the newly named Melissa Hale Trophy with three matches between Victoria and a combined team. The 2019 championships saw some outstanding team and individual performances, with claiming the Deaf and Hard of Hearing title, Victoria the Intellectual Disability division, and NSW the Blind and Low Vision title. Our thanks goes to the Commonwealth Bank, the Victorian State Government, Cricket Victoria, the City of Greater Geelong, Taverners Australia, Public Transport Victoria, Gen U and the many volunteers and support staff who make this event possible. To each and every one of our participants, players, umpires, coaches and volunteers, we wish you all the best throughout the tournament and hope you will enjoy the contest and camaraderie on and off the field Kevin Roberts Chief Executive Officer, Cricket Australia

3 MINISTER FOR TOURISM, SPORT AND MAJOR EVENTS MARTIN PAKULA – 2020 NATIONAL CRICKET INCLUSION CHAMPIONSHIPS On behalf of the Andrews Labor Government, welcome to Victoria – sporting capital of Australia and host of the 2020 National Cricket Inclusion Championships. Victoria lives and breathes sport, and no one puts on a show like we do. We’re home to some of the biggest attractions in the world including the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix, Australian Open tennis and the famous Spring Racing Carnival. Victoria is also an active and enthusiastic supporter of inclusion and diversity in sport, and we’re proud that the National Cricket Inclusion Championships will be held in Geelong. Over the next five days, state teams in three divisions – blind and vision impaired, deaf and hard of hearing, and intellectually disabled – will battle it out for national titles, and players will also have an opportunity to vie for Australian selection. There are around 200 players here from around Australia, and they bring with them more than 250 family and support staff. The Andrews Labor Government has supported this event for the past three years through our Significant Sporting Events Program. It’s been great to see the tournament grow, with the inclusion this year of women’s teams in the deaf division. Cricket Australia and Cricket Victoria have done a fantastic job opening up cricket to people of all abilities, setting a benchmark for other sports. When you’re not watching the action on the field this week, I encourage you to get out and explore the beautiful Geelong region. It boasts some of the best beaches and surf in Australia, fantastic local produce and restaurants, and a host of natural and historic attractions. There’s something for everyone here. Best of luck to the competitors and thank you to all the volunteers and fans who make events like this such a success. I trust you will enjoy your time in Geelong. The Hon Martin Pakula MP Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events

4 2020 NATIONAL CRICKET INCLUSION CHAMPIONSHIPS 2020 NATIONAL CRICKET INCLUSION CHAMPIONSHIPS Geelong is proud to be hosting the National Cricket Inclusion Championships for a fourth time in 2020. This is an inspiring event played in a wonderful spirit, bringing together skilled cricketers from all over Australia. We’ve seen over the past three years how hard each of the teams competes with state pride on the line, while at the same time having a huge amount of fun. The tournament continues to evolve, and it’s excellent that the women’s schedule has expanded this year with a three-match series played over three days. For our city, this tournament is part of a huge calendar of top class cricket in 2020. Having hosted two Renegades matches during the current Big Bash season, we can’t wait to welcome teams from around the world during October as a host venue for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The National Cricket Inclusion Championships give us a great chance to showcase our beautiful local venues, and we thank each of the cricket clubs who have worked hard to present their grounds and in first class condition this week. Best of luck to all teams, and we hope you enjoy your time in Geelong – it’s our pleasure to have you. CR Stephanie Asher Mayor, City of Greater Geelong

The laws of cricket clearly explain the expectations of how participants will behave on the field, and they also outline sanctions should these expectations not be met. The explanation that follows is taken from the MCC Laws of Cricket, which is universally applied across all countries and cultures. Cricket is a game that owes much of its unique appeal to the fact that it should be played not only within its Laws but also within the Spirit of the Game. Any action which is seen to abuse this spirit causes injury to the game itself. THE ROLE OF THE CAPTAIN Team captains hold the main responsibility for ensuring the spirit of fair play is maintained.
