Sunlight House

Sunlight House is a major 14 storey office building completed in 1933, designed by the renowned Russian architect, Joseph Sunlight, who took his inspiration from the “Art Deco” architecture of 1920’s skyscrapers in New York and Chicago. Sunlight House was one of the first major tall office buildings in Europe and the first speculative commercial development in Manchester. Its’ architecture and historical significance have been recognised by a Grade II listing. The building is constructed around a central lightwell and has impressive elevations with contemporary architectural detailing. The building’s slate mansard roof is a distinctive feature of the Manchester city centre skyline. Sunlight House provides 12 upper floors of high quality office accommodation with a health club, public house and small retail units at ground floor level. The office floors are approached through 2 separate ground floor entrances that are light and spacious with modern finishes and contemporary lighting throughout. The principal entrance, at the Quay Street/Little Quay Street corner, benefits from a Receptionist service and visitor seating. A total of four 10 person passenger lifts (2 in each building core) serve ground and all upper floors and there is a further goods lift at the rear of the building. Male and female toilet facilities are located on each upper floor and disabled toilet facilities are also provided. Sunlight House 6pp Folder 4/25/05 11:34 AM Page 6

Spinningfields

Spinningfields is a major mixed use development covering 22 acres in Manchester’s “West End”. The scheme is the largest, single regeneration project within Manchester City Centre for years and has become the new focus of the city centre office market. The scheme is being developed by Allied London Properties in partnership with Manchester City Council and will ultimately total some 2.64 million sq ft (245,000 sq m) comprising new office, residential, hotel, retail and leisure accommodation, the new City Magistrates Court and a new college for Manchester College of Arts & Technology. Royal Bank of Scotland are moving into a 480,000 sq ft (44,593 sq m) Headquarters and Administration Centre and the Lord Chancellors Department will occupy a 280,000 sq ft (26,013 sq m) “Civil Justice Administration Centre” within the scheme.
