Many of these involve acting as a kind of conduit between the Parishes (on the one hand) and the Diocesan and General Synods (on the other). However, the one we wish to focus on for the purposes of this plan is this: "to bring together the views of the parishes of the deanery on common problems, to discuss and formulate common policies on those problems, to foster a sense of community and interdependence among those parishes, and generally to promote in the deanery the whole mission of the Church, pastoral, evangelistic, social and ecumenical" 1. The village is approximately 3.5 miles east of Pewsey1, and 7 miles SSE of Marlborough. It is a grade II listed building, designated in June 19882: EASTON ROYAL EASTON ROYAL SU 26 SW (west side) 2/203 Yeoman's GV II House. C17, altered in C19. Timber framed and brick, thatched roof. Single storey and attic, 2 bays, with narrow brick extension to south extended to rear as wing. Central 6-panelled door in timber porch. Canted bay windows to ground floor, rising to square bays on first floor with framed gables. Dormer to left end. Framing 2 panels high on brick sills, with reverse curved corner braces. Framing altered in C19 and C19 framed gable added to right. Interior has stop chamfered spine beam to left room and large stack, the fireplace being blocked. Stack removed from rear wall of right bay. Timber framed partition to left of entrance stair lobby. Listing NGR: SU2074460525. Parish Council analyses issues 1. Froxfield present Straddling the A4 road, Froxfield is a village which at the last census (2011) had a population of 382. This included 153 men and 229 women and covered 168 households. (i) The highest population enjoyed by Froxfield was 625 in 1841; the lowest 266 in 1971. (ii) The village extends along the very wide A4 – with narrow (often single-track) side roads leading off it towards Little Bedwyn, Great Bedwyn, Chilton Foliat and Ramsbury. There are also three smaller residential ‘no-thru’ roads. There is a thriving private nursery school (Stepping Stones) within the village boundary at the hamlet of Oakhill. There are several substantial businesses based in Froxfield – furniture retailer OKA has its major south west showroom on the A4, at the western end of the village; along Littlecote Road, we find BK Grain Handling Engineers, operating in Froxfield since 1981; Brendoncare offers nursing care for 44 residents and The Blanchard Collective has a 6000sq ft warehouse for 18 antique dealers. 2. Last year I ended my annual report for the Parish Council with some thank you’s. This year I would like to start with them as it really is the many wonderful residents in our community that make living here such a privilege. So many people give up their time to help maintain and create spaces and activities that the community and visitors enjoy. I would like to thank Linda Hopkins and her team who, over many years, have persevered and succeeded in providing us with a welcoming, well stocked and well used Village Hall. Home to a range of activities, events and fund raising extravaganzas….who can forget Singalong a Grease night! Linda is also to be thanked for her editorship of the village Contact newsletter, keeping us informed of news and events. With a copy delivered through every door, I know that many people appreciate this form of communication in a digital age! Also, our continuing thanks to Tony McGarry for his sterling work at the recreation ground. It’s looking great and is in almost constant use, particularly by younger people in the village. Tony ensures that the facilities are kept updated, with new cricket nets and spring cleans and remains vigilant in the face of unwelcome visits from some friendly moles!
