    Pewsey Deanery Plan Outline What are Deaneries for? Well, Deaneries have a number of statutorily imposed functions. Many of these involve acting as a kind of conduit between the Parishes (on the one hand) and the Diocesan and General Synods (on the other). However, the one we wish to focus on for the purposes of this plan is this: "to bring together the views of the parishes of the deanery on common problems, to discuss and formulate common policies on those problems, to foster a sense of community and interdependence among those parishes, and generally to promote in the deanery the whole mission of the Church, pastoral, evangelistic, social and ecumenical" 1. Seeking to achieve these things is our overarching challenge as a Deanery and to help us to make meaningful progress in doing so, it is sensible (and maybe even necessary) to have a plan. Description Pgs. 10-26 Yeomans, Easton Royal: Wiltshire Buildings Record February 2018 Page 2 1 INTRODUCTION Yeomans is a detached brick and timber-framed house of c1600 standing on a high bank on the west side of the village street of Easton Royal. The village is approximately 3.5 miles east of Pewsey1, and 7 miles SSE of Marlborough. It is a grade II listed building, designated in June 19882: EASTON ROYAL EASTON ROYAL SU 26 SW (west side) 2/203 Yeoman's GV II House. C17, altered in C19. Timber framed and brick, thatched roof. Single storey and attic, 2 bays, with narrow brick extension to south extended to rear as wing. Central 6-panelled door in timber porch. Canted bay windows to ground floor, rising to square bays on first floor with framed gables. Dormer to left end. Framing 2 panels high on brick sills, with reverse curved corner braces. Framing altered in C19 and C19 framed gable added to right. Interior has stop chamfered spine beam to left room and large stack, the fireplace being blocked. Stack removed from rear wall of right bay. Timber framed partition to left of entrance stair lobby. Listing NGR: SU2074460525. Yeomans is also within the Easton Royal Conservation Area designated in July 19753 4.

Last year I ended my annual report for the Parish Council with some thank you’s. This year I would like to start with them as it really is the many wonderful residents in our community that make living here such a privilege. So many people give up their time to help maintain and create spaces and activities that the community and visitors enjoy. I would like to thank Linda Hopkins and her team who, over many years, have persevered and succeeded in providing us with a welcoming, well stocked and well used Village Hall. Home to a range of activities, events and fund raising extravaganzas….who can forget Singalong a Grease night! Linda is also to be thanked for her editorship of the village Contact newsletter, keeping us informed of news and events. With a copy delivered through every door, I know that many people appreciate this form of communication in a digital age! Also, our continuing thanks to Tony McGarry for his sterling work at the recreation ground. It’s looking great and is in almost constant use, particularly by younger people in the village. Tony ensures that the facilities are kept updated, with new cricket nets and spring cleans and remains vigilant in the face of unwelcome visits from some friendly moles!     Easton Royal Earthworks own a long lane after a long drive through Marlborough and Savernake Forest, earthworks lies Easton Royal Church, at the eastern end of the Vale of Pewsey. Opposite everywhere the church is a large field, stretching off into the distance, full of earthworks but where is Dthought to be the site of a Trinitarian priory. The Trinitarian movement was rare in the priory? England. It was set up in 1198 to help Christians in pagan-ruled countries, and had only eleven centres in this country. Every one of them has disappeared except possibly Robin Holley remains in Knaresborough in Yorkshire and Easton Royal. John Oswin The Trinitarian Movement first made its presence felt in Easton in 1229, eventually providing a travellers’ accommodation house, chapel and priory. The latter was built from the material of the parish church, which had been demolished as it was in disrepair. The present parish church was built in 1591. The priory buildings were consumed by fire in 1493 and in ruins at the time of its official dissolution in 1536. The building material was used to create a mansion for Edward Seymour, Duke of Somerset which was demolished in 1763. A project to survey the field was set up in 2013 for BACAS, the Easton Royal History Group (ERHG) and the Archaeological and Historical Landscape Research Group (AHLRG). Day 1 started with a fine flourish of magnetometry, over three acres were covered, but the plot at the end of the day was blank! The field is on greensand which does not respond to magnetometry so the whole field had to be surveyed by resistance which gave a good response (see Figure 1), but it took three seasons to complete the work.

    Minor changes to the times of bus services 101, 102 and 103 in the Pewsey and Devizes area starting on 5 February 2018 Following feedback received about the changes that we made to the Pewsey Vale bus services last summer, we will be making a few minor timetable adjustments from 5 February. The changes mainly affect buses before 9am, which will now depart approximately 5 minutes earlier to ensure that school children and commuters get into Devizes and Pewsey on time. However some other times have also been amended and in a few cases you may now need to book in advance, so please check the timetables in this leaflet carefully. Do I need to book ? If you are boarding the bus at Devizes Market Place or at Pewsey Co-op, or at any point in the villages where a time is shown in the timetable, you do not need to book a seat through the call centre as the bus will always call at those bus stops. However if you need to board a bus at a village where there is a symbol in the timetable instead of a time, then you will need to ring the call centre to ensure that the bus goes that way to pick you up. Our new call centre number is 01722 326 154 and the booking line is open between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm on weekdays and between 8.30 am and 1 pm on Saturdays. Please note that if you wish to travel before 10am, we recommend that you book your seat on the previous working day, as the call centre is often at its busiest first thing in the morning.
