24Th Year of the Burbage Beer Festival Friday 3Rd & Saturday 4Th th 24 year of the Burbage Beer Festival th Friday 3rd & Saturday 4 September 2021 Burbage and Easton Royal Cricket Club welcome you once again to our annual Beer Festival. This is the 24th time we have been fortunate enough to bring this event to the village and hope that it will continue to be a fixture in the village for many years to come. To suit today’s tastes we have a wide range of both beer and cider available, with 35 to sample, you’ll be spoilt for choice. We will also have a variety of other drinks available (including Gin & Prosecco) from our Pavilion bar. This is our favourite event of the year, and hope that regular festival goers and new visitors alike will have a very enjoyable evening or two with us. We will start our Friday musical entertainment at 9ish with local legends Humdinger, who will take us through to the evening’s end at Midnight. After the success of their 2019 festival debut, on Saturday we welcome back Kova Me Badd.     Pewsey Deanery Plan Outline What are Deaneries for? Well, Deaneries have a number of statutorily imposed functions. Many of these involve acting as a kind of conduit between the Parishes (on the one hand) and the Diocesan and General Synods (on the other). The village is approximately 3.5 miles east of Pewsey1, and 7 miles SSE of Marlborough. It is a grade II listed building, designated in June 19882: EASTON ROYAL EASTON ROYAL SU 26 SW (west side) 2/203 Yeoman's GV II House. C17, altered in C19. Timber framed and brick, thatched roof. Single storey and attic, 2 bays, with narrow brick extension to south extended to rear as wing. Central 6-panelled door in timber porch. Canted bay windows to ground floor, rising to square bays on first floor with framed gables. Dormer to left end. Framing 2 panels high on brick sills, with reverse curved corner braces. Framing altered in C19 and C19 framed gable added to right. Interior has stop chamfered spine beam to left room and large stack, the fireplace being blocked. Stack removed from rear wall of right bay. Timber framed partition to left of entrance stair lobby. Listing NGR: SU2074460525. Last year I ended my annual report for the Parish Council with some thank you’s. This year I would like to start with them as it really is the many wonderful residents in our community that make living here such a privilege. So many people give up their time to help maintain and create spaces and activities that the community and visitors enjoy. I would like to thank Linda Hopkins and her team who, over many years, have persevered and succeeded in providing us with a welcoming, well stocked and well used Village Hall. Home to a range of activities, events and fund raising extravaganzas….who can forget Singalong a Grease night! Linda is also to be thanked for her editorship of the village Contact newsletter, keeping us informed of news and events. With a copy delivered through every door, I know that many people appreciate this form of communication in a digital age! Also, our continuing thanks to Tony McGarry for his sterling work at the recreation ground. It’s looking great and is in almost constant use, particularly by younger people in the village. Tony ensures that the facilities are kept updated, with new cricket nets and spring cleans and remains vigilant in the face of unwelcome visits from some friendly moles! Appendix A – Role and Function Study of Local Service Centres Planning Policy Statement 12 (PPS12, 2008) recognises that a settlement strategy is key to ensuring sustainable patterns of development are delivered in appropriate locations at an appropriate scale. The Settlement Strategy Topic Paper provides the detailed background explaining how the settlement strategy for Wiltshire has been identified. Categorising the role and function of settlements is an important first step that will help to understand appropriate levels of growth that should be planned for within settlements. The 2011 Settlement Strategy seeks to provide a framework within which the ambitions of Wiltshire‟s rural communities can be realised. As part of this framework a number of settlements, which are considered to have a pronounced role in the rural area and in most cases act as local services centres serving the wider rural hinterland are identified. There were 5 settlements that have been identified as potentially having a service centre role. These settlements are; Cricklade, Lyneham, Market Lavington, Pewsey & Purton. In very general terms a Local Service Centre will have some or all of the following characteristics. Large population (over 2,000) Significant employment base; A very good range of services; A secondary school; Excellent transport connections; Potential to support development in the rural area; The largest settlement within the community.
