We are well placed to campaign for increased services, such as health care, because we hear firsthand the difficulties experienced by residents. The State Government has recently committed $30 million to build stage two of the Kingston Health Centre, to provide more community health facilities. Advocacy can draw attention to increasing congestion on our roads. Two new park and ride facilities, thanks to the Greater Hobart City Deal, will soon provide express bus services from Kingborough to the Hobart CBD, making travel by bus faster and more reliable. Joint State and Federal Government funding of $60 million for the roundabout and an extension to the was recently announced. This is in response to calls for better transport infrastructure to service our growing population. Kingborough is likely to need a greater investment in education as future residential growth puts pressure on our local schools. A meeting with the Minister for Education is a priority going forwards. A complementary approach to reducing congestion is to remove the need for people to travel outside of Kingborough in the first place. Council’s new Kingborough Community Hub and Kingston Park playground are already making their mark and improvements to the Kingston Beach foreshore and the amenity of our main street are underway. The revitalisation of the Kingston CBD is aimed at creating a vibrant and economically resilient regional hub. Transforming the CBD into an engaging place to stay will help create more local employment, retail and hospitality options for Kingborough’s residents. Council is doing what it can to contribute through a record $20 million infrastructure program planned for 2021-22. Collaboration between elected representatives, at all three levels of government, is the only way to ensure the needs of our community are met into the future. 4 Seasons Makers and Growers Market Sunday, June 27 H18081 10am-2pm Kingston Community Hall 35 Redwood Road, Kingston www.facebook.com/4SeasonsMarketTasmania
