The rich and greedy Duke Brothers (Bellamy and Ameche), owners of a Philadelphia commodities trading firm, make a bet on whether a born loser like Billy Ray Valentine (Murphy), a hustler from the ghetto pretending to be a disabled Vietnam veteran, can become as successful as Winthorpe (Aykroyd), a wealthy investment executive, if put in the proper environment--and if a prig like Winthorpe were to lose all, would he turn to a life of crime? The Dukes’ scheme appears to be working until their victims discover the bet and the Dukes’ plans to corner the orange juice market and turn the tables on them.
