SOUTH CAROLINA STINGRAYS 2020-21 BIOS

RYAN BLAIR Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations

BIO: Ryan Blair was named the Stingrays' 10th head coach in franchise history on July 15, 2020. The 34-year-old was hired as the team’s Assistant Coach and Manager of Hockey Operations in the summer of 2019 and helped the Rays to the ECHL’s best regular season record during the 2019-20 season while working under head coach Steve Bergin. He also helped oversee the best defensive club in the ECHL last year, as the Stingrays surrendered a league-low 2.37 goals per game. Prior to joining the Rays organization, Blair held the Director of Hockey Operations position with the UMass-Lowell men’s hockey team under head coach Norm Bazin during 2018-19. The former blueliner also had a 3-year professional playing career in the ECHL from 2011-14, totaling 117 games with the , Toledo Walleye, , Orlando Solar Bears and Wheeling Nailers. After the conclusion of his playing career, Blair spent time as both an assistant and head coach with the Boston Jr. Rangers in the Eastern Hockey League for three years from 2015-18. During his time with the club he helped oversee a combined record of 90-25-11 that included playoff championships in 2016 and 2018, as well as a regular- season championship in 2018. After the 2017-18 season, Blair was honored as the EHL Premier Coach of the Year. Born in Toronto, Ontario, Blair also lived in Ashburn, Va. before attending UMass-Lowell from 2007-11. During four seasons of NCAA Hockey with the Riverhawks, Blair appeared in 141 career games and helped the program reach the Hockey East Championship game in 2009.

BRENDEN KOTYK Assistant Coach and Manager of Hockey Operations

BIO: Kotyk joined the Rays' hockey operations staff in November of 2020, beginning his coaching career. The 29-year-old recently completed a three-year professional playing career, spending the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons on the back end for the Toledo Walleye, appearing in 50 games during each campaign. A native of Regina, Saskatchewan, Kotyk began his pro career in 2017-18 with the AHL’s Harford Wolfpack and also spent time in the ECHL with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. While with Toledo, Kotyk suited up for 24 postseason games in 2019 as part of a run to the Finals which included a Western Conference Championship. Prior to turning pro, Kotyk played collegiately at the University of Minnesota-Duluth from 2014-17 as well as The College of St. Scholastica during 2013-14. He helped UMD to NCAA Tournament appearances in all three of his seasons with the Bulldogs, including an appearance in the Frozen Four and National Championship game in 2017.

BIO: Erkamps, 25, has spent his past two seasons with the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. In the shortened 2019-20 campaign, the defender skated in 36 AHL games as well as three contests with the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers. The Richmond, British Columbia native has appeared in 117 career AHL games with Binghamton, Belleville, and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, collecting 14 points (one goal, 13 assists). Additionally, Erkamps has also spent time in the ECHL with Wichita, Brampton, and Wheeling. Prior to turning pro, Erkamps was the of the Brandon Wheat Kings of the , leading the club to a championship in 2016.

BIO: Nanne, 24, is in the first year of his pro career after three seasons at the University of Minnesota where he served as the captain of the Gophers in 2019-20 as a senior. BIO: Lees signed his first professional contract with the Stingrays on Feb. 21, 2020 after completing his fourth season at Mount Royal University. The 24-year-old played a total of 95 games during his college career and accounted for 78 points (34 goals, 44 assists). In addition, Lees had eight points in 15 playoff games during the last four seasons on three goals and five assists. Prior to attending school, Lees spent parts of five seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Prince Albert Raiders and Kelowna Rockets. Most recently, he spent the 2019-20 season in Austria with EHC Linz of the EBEL and recorded 25 points in 48 games on eight goals and 17 assists. Florek played collegiately for his hometown team, Northern Michigan University, from 2008-12 along with Stingrays captain Andrew Cherniwchan. During his senior year in 2011-12, he served as team captain, while Cherniwchan was also part of the leadership group as an alternate captain. The two also played together for the in the AHL during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. Florek was selected by the Boston Bruins in the 5th round of the 2010 NHL Draft and signed an entry-level contract with the club at the conclusion of his college career. From 2012-15 he remained with the Bruins organization, where he suited up for 221 games with Providence during four different seasons and totaled 104 points on 43 goals and 61 assists. Florek then spent one year in the organization with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers during 2015-16 before joining the for the 2016-17 campaign.

BIO: Steman, 26, returns for his second campaign with the Rays after accumulating 20 points in 47 contests during the 2019-20 year with six goals and 14 assists. The alumnus of Michigan Tech University (MTU) began his pro career with Hershey late in the 2018-19 year after completing his senior collegiate season and suited up in four regular season games for the Bears before seeing action in seven postseason contests. Prior to turning pro, Steman served as MTU’s captain in his senior season and posted 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in 37 games. He was part of three NCAA Tournament appearances with the Huskies in 2015, 2017 and 2018. The team also captured Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Tournament titles in 2017 and 2018, along with a regular season championship in 2016. In total, Steman racked up 62 points in 154 NCAA games during parts of five seasons from 2015-19. Steman’s background also includes two seasons of junior hockey in the United States Hockey League (USHL) with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders from 2012-14. BIO: Létourneau is in his first pro season after completing a four-year collegiate career at Bowling Green State University where he posted 55 points on 23 goals and 32 assists in 140 games during the past four seasons. The 24- year-old totaled 21 points on six goals and 15 assists last season while appearing in 35 of Bowling Green’s 38 games. Létourneau was also part of a Falcons squad that earned a berth in the 2019 NCAA Tournament and appeared in the WCHA Championship game in 2017 and 2019. He also had a leadership role last season, serving as one of Bowling Green’s alternate captains. BIO: Craighead, 23, is starting his pro career in South Carolina after completing a stellar four-year run at Northern Michigan University that saw him score 109 points in 153 games. As a senior during the 2019-20 season, Craighead collected 31 points on 15 goals and 16 assists and was named to the All-WCHA Third Team. Craighead posted double-digit goal totals in each of his last three seasons with the Wildcats, including 17 tallies as a sophomore during a 33-point campaign in which he was also named to the WCHA’s All-Third Team. The right-shot also earned a spot on the WCHA’s All-Rookie Team as a freshman at the conclusion of the 2016-17 season after scoring 25 points (7g, 18a). Novak’s pro career has also included 111 AHL games with the Albany Devils and , as well as 125 ECHL contests with the Stingrays and Orlando Solar Bears. He finished second on the Solar Bears in scoring during the 2017-18 year, posting 57 points in 66 games on 21 goals and 36 assists. Before turning pro, Novak played at Union College in the ECAC (Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference) for four years from 2011-15. Prior to turning pro, Askew finished the 2017-18 season with the Charlottetown Islanders and scored 14 points (six goals, eight assists) in 31 regular season games before adding 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in 18 postseason contests during the team’s run through the QMJHL playoffs. Prior to turning pro, Hammond played four seasons at the University of Denver from 2014-18. BIO: Gottlieb, 25, joins SC for his second pro year after spending his rookie campaign on an AHL contract with the . In addition to appearing in two games with the Reign, Gottlieb suited up for 43 contests while on loan with the ECHL’s where he totaled 30 points on five goals and 25 assists. Gottlieb began his pro career with Ontario late in the 2018-19 year when he played in six games and netted a goal and an assist after completing a four-year collegiate career at Brown University. During his time at school, Gottlieb posted 60 points in 118 games (10 goals, 50 assists). His assist total was sixth-most all-time in school history amongst defensemen, while his point total ranked eighth. Gottlieb served as a co-captain during his senior season at Brown and was named to the All-Ivy League Second Team in 2015-16 and 2017-18. He was also recognized by the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) as an All-Rookie Team member after his freshman season. Harrison also posted 19 points in his first year with the Rays during 2018-19 with seven goals and 12 assists. Prior to joining SC, he spent his rookie season with the Adirondack Thunder where he was part of the team’s run to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2018, scoring 16 points (8g, 8a) in 63 regular season games before adding four points (2g, 2a) and a +5 rating in 11 postseason contests. A former sixth-round pick (157th overall) of the in the 2013 NHL Draft, Harrison spent four seasons at Colgate University in the ECAC and compiled 54 points in 143 games on 26 goals and 28 assists. BIO: Cherniwchan is in his ninth season with the Stingrays (2011-20), the only ECHL team he has played for since signing with the club during the second half of the 2011-12 year. While serving as captain, he tied for the team lead in scoring with 51 points in 60 games during 2019-20. In 2018-19, Cherniwchan played in all of the Rays’ 72 regular season games and established a career-high with a team leading 67 points. He was also named to the roster for the 2019 ECHL All-Star Classic. Cherniwchan’s time in the AHL has included 173 regular season games with Utica, Providence and Springfield, scoring a total of 46 points (25 goals, 21 assists). Before turning pro, he played for Northern Michigan for four seasons from 2008-2012 and scored 84 points (35 goals, 49 assists) in 146 games.

He then appeared in six postseason contests with the club in the 2019 Kelly Cup Playoffs, adding one assist. Klimek had a four-year collegiate career at Northern Michigan University from 2014- 18 and served as an alternate captain during his senior season. The defender was also named to the WCHA’s All- Academic Team after his sophomore season in 2015-16. Before attending school, Klimek played in the USHL for the Dubuque Fighting Saints during the 2013-14 season and suited up for 60 games over two campaigns with the BCHL’s Surrey Eagles where he helped the club to a BCHL Championship title in 2013.

BIO: Dubeau, 26, is in his second professional year in South Carolina after spending the 2019-20 season on an AHL contract with the Belleville Senators. The Mascouche, Quebec native appeared in three AHL games with Belleville and earned a win in his first career AHL start, defeating the Toronto Marlies on March 6. The majority of Dubeau’s rookie year was spent in the ECHL with the Brampton Beast where he posted a 21-16-2 record in 40 appearances with three shutouts. In over 2,000 minutes of game action, the netminder had a 3.23 goals-against average and a 0.898 save percentage. The backstop completed a four-year stint with the University of New Brunswick Reds from 2015-19 where he went 46-15 in 65 games. During his UNB career Dubeau won three University Cups in 2016, 2017, and 2019. In his final season he was named to the University Cup All-Star team and was honored as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player with a 5-0-0 playoff record and a goals-against of 0.78. Dubeau also played junior hockey in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) for the Shawinigan Cataractes and Moncton Wildcats, winning 138 games and claiming the 2012 Memorial Cup.

BIO: Shepard, 24, is in his first professional season after a prolific college career at Minnesota-Duluth where he helped guide the Bulldogs to back-to-back NCAA National Championships in 2018 and 2019. Shepard started an NCAA-record 115 straight games from Oct. 21, 2017 to Mar. 7, 2020. The goaltender served as a co-captain at UMD during 2019-20, playing in 34 games, going 22-10-2 with a 2.18 goals-against average, a .918 save percentage, and two shutouts. For the second straight year, he was named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Goaltender of the Year and earned Second-Team All-American honors after landing First-Team All-American honors the year prior. Shepard was dominant in the NCAA Tournament in his collegiate career, going 8-0 with a 0.97 goals against average and a .953 save percentage. He recorded a shutout in UMD's 2019 title win over UMass, stopping all 18 shots he faced. The netminder finished his NCAA career with a 76-37-5 record in 119 games, ranking first all- time in UMD history in wins, goals against average (1.94), save percentage (.922), and shutouts (17). He was a three-time Mike Richter Award Finalist and a three-time All-NCHC selection in his illustrious NCAA tenure.

GOALS: 19 DATE OF BIRTH: 2/20/1995 ASSISTS: 36 SHOOTS: L POINTS: 48 HOMETOWN: Calgary, AB BIO: Ully, 25, is in his sixth professional season and coming off a year where he saw action in 53 games with South Carolina while on an AHL contract with the Hershey Bears. Ully racked up 48 points on 12 goals and 36 assists, which was tied for third-most on the team. His assist total was also tied for the team lead, while his +21 rating was fourth-best among all SC skaters. Ully has racked up 123 games of AHL experience in his career, with 121 of those contests coming with the Texas Stars. The forward was drafted by the in the 5th round of the 2013 NHL Draft and skated with their AHL affiliate for parts of four seasons. He was named co-winner of the CCM ECHL Player of the Month award in November 2018 while with the Utah Grizzlies. Prior to turning pro, Ully played with the of the Western Hockey League, earning a spot on the league's First All-Star Team in 2014-15. In total, Ully played 256 games with the Blazers, posting 237 points (95 goals, 142 assists).

ANDREW LORD - HEAD COACH Andrew Lord was named head coach and director of hockey operations with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits on June 19, 2020, and brings with him a tremendous amount of professional playing and coaching experience. He is the winningest coach in Cardiff Devils history, and won nine separate championship titles with the organization. He played ten seasons as aSouth pro out Division of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), including time with the ECHL with the Wheeling Nailers, the AHL with the , Milwaukee Admirals and Oklahoma City Barons, and time overseas with SC Riessersee in Germany, and the aforementioned Cardiff Devils.

Lord, 35, became a name of legend in Cardiff with his incredible run as the team's head coach. His record of 221-75-22 across six seasons made his club the team to beat in the Elite League in the United Kingdom on a yearly basis. His rap sheet includes two EIHL titles, three conference championships, two Challenge Cup titles and two Playoff championships. he cultivated a culture of winning, and with that, the fans in Cardiff responded in kind. Attendance more than doubled from his first season as a player until his last season as head coach in 2019–20.

Lord began his hockey career in the BCHL with the Burnaby Bulldogs and the Vernon Vipers, and started with a bang. He was part of a BCHL championship club in Vernon in 2002, and a year after, was named team MVP, and most improved player. He was also an incredible student, as an honor roll regular, Dean's List honoree, a three-time ECAC All-Academic, a two-time RPI scholar-athelte award winner, and a finalist for ECAC Student- Athlete of the Year Award. He earned his bachelor's degree in Business Management. He furthered his education in Cardiff with an MBA from Cardiff Metropolitan University in 2016. PHILLIP BARSKI - ASSISTANT COACH Phillip Barski was named assistant coach of the Greenville Swamp Rabbits on August 5, 2020. Barski, 41, joins the Swamp Rabbits organization after serving as the head coach of in the , the top hockey league in . Under his direction, the team finished third in the league with 87 standings points, qualified for the , and had a +87 goal differential.

Barski joins the Swamp Rabbits with ten seasons of coaching experience. He served as an assistant coach for one season with the Pickering Panthers of the OJHL, two seasons as an assistant at York University in Toronto, one season as the video coach with the Brampton Beast of the ECHL, two seasons as an assistant with HC Bolzano in Italy, and lastly, head coach of Podhale Nowy Targ last season.

Barski also worked with the Toronto Marlboros, the Don Mills Flyers, the Rebels, and the Hillcrest Canadiens throughout his coaching career, and has run skills and development camps in the Greater Toronto Area.

A native Richmond Hill, Ontario, a suburb outside Toronto, Barski played four seaosns in the OPJHL, which has rebranded into the OJHL, followed by three seasons of college hockey. His freshman year was spent at Bowling Green State University, and then he transferred to the University of Calgary for two more seasons before ultimately retiring as a player. SHAWN THORNS - EQUIPMENT MANAGER Shawn Thorns joined the Swamp Rabbits ahead of the 2018–19 season as the team’s head equipment manager. He handles the ordering and maintenance of any team equipment, in addition to managing the entire Swamp Rabbits locker room at home and on the road.

Before the move to Greenville, Thorns held the head equipment manager position with the SPHL’s during the 2017–18 season. He was also an assistant equipment manager for four seasons with the South Carolina Stingrays from 2013 to 2017. The Charleston, South Carolina native grew up around the game of hockey, playing as a goaltender, and also spending time as an assistant coach of the Wando High School hockey team. ADAM CAMPBELL - ATHLETIC TRAINER Adam Campbell enters his first season as Head Athletic Trainer for the Greenville Swamp Rabbits in 2020-21. Campbell relocates to the Upstate after serving as Assistant Athletic Trainer in Happy Valley for Penn State University Athletics. Campbell received his Bachelor’s of Science from Penn State, and completed a Master’s from University of Central Missouri in Sport and Fitness Administration/Management. The Johnstown Pennsylvania native enjoys playing golf. He also has a hobbies of woodworking and fishing in his spare time.

MATT TRUST - MANAGER OF MEDIA RELATIONS & BROADCASTER Matt Trust enters in his first season as the Play-by-Play Voice and Manager of Media Relations for the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. Previously, Trust spent the last five seasons working for the AHL’s Hershey Bears (three years as an intern, two years full-time).

Trust, 25, is a 2018 graduate from Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Communication-Journalism, and followed with a M.S. in Strategic Public Relations in 2020. Before starting in early November with the Swamp Rabbits, the Catasauqua, PA native started the 2020-21 school year as a high school substitute teacher in the Catasauqua Area School District. Outside of the class room, Trust oversaw live event streaming for the school district’s fall sports. Kansas City Mavericks at Indy Fuel 7:05 p.m. ET  Kansas City’s Tad O’Had makes his head coaching debut.  Indy’s Spencer Watson was tied for second in the ECHL last season with 31 goals.  Mavericks were tied for fifth with five shorthanded goals against last season.  Fuel ranked fifth in the league on the power play last season at 20.3 percent (51-for-251).

Greenville Swamp Rabbits at South Carolina Stingrays 7:05 p.m. ET  Greenville’s Liam Pecararo was fifth among rookies last season with 23 goals.  South Carolina’s Ryan Blair makes his head coaching debut.  Swamp Rabbits were tied for third last season with 12 shorthanded goals.  Stingrays led the league with 2.37 goals-against per game.
