John Frederick Andrews Novels of the Great War The photographs in this section were obtained from a number of sources. Most were from United States Marine Corps historical photos which were available by internet search. Many of these were found and posted to that location by Steve Girard. Others were obtained from US Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, historical archives and were furnished to me by André Sobocinski. Major General Omar Bundy, USA, 2nd Division Commander during the Battle of Belleau Wood John Frederick Andrews Novels of the Great War General James Harbord, USA, Commander, 4th Brigade of Marines He wore a French Adrian helmet rather than the standard issue US Army Brodie helmet. John Frederick Andrews Novels of the Great War Brigadier General Charles A. Doyen USMC Doyen was relieved of his command of the 4th Brigade of Marines in early May, 1918 due to ill health. His removal and replacement with General Harbord was met with hostility by a number or marines who resented the replacement of a well-respected marine with an army officer who had no combat experience. Among those was Major Holland Smith, USMC, who was the Brigade Intelligence Officer. John Frederick Andrews Novels of the Great War Colonel Albertus W. Catlin, USMC, 6th Marine Regiment Commander. This photograph was taken after his promotion to Brigadier General. This photo was taken after his promotion to Brigadier General. John Frederick Andrews Novels of the Great War Lieutenant Colonel Harry Lee, USMC. Lee was second in command of the 6th Marine Regiment. He took over command of the USMC 6th Regiment when Colonel Catlin was wounded on 6/6/1918. John Frederick Andrews Novels of the Great War Lieutenant Colonel Logan Feland, USMC 5th Regiment. Terrell commanded the USMC 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment. John Frederick Andrews Novels of the Great War Major, then Lieutenant Colonel Frederick Wise, USMC on the right. Wise commanded the USMC 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines. Major Holland Smith, USMC on the left was the Division Intelligence Officer. Brigadier General Charles Doyen, USMC is in the center. John Frederick Andrews Novels of the Great War Second Lieutenant Clifton B. Cates, USMC Cates commanded the 4th Platoon, 96th Company, 1st Battalion, 6th Regiment. John Frederick Andrews Novels of the Great War Gunnery Sergeant Frederick Stockham, USMC Stockham served with Cate’s 4th Platoon, 96th Company John Frederick Andrews Novels of the Great War Lieutenant John Overton, USMC.
