Prosecco Route to Venice PROSECCO ROUTE TO VENICE CYCLING THROUGH VENETO’S VINEYARDS THE PROSECCO ROUTE TO VENICE SUMMARY Cycle through the vineyards of the Veneto region, sampling sparkling Prosecco and fiery Grappa as you travel to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Venice, hailed by the NY Times as ‘undoubtedly the most beautiful city built by man’. Experience Italy’s varied landscapes as the flat plains of the Veneto region give way to the rolling foothills of the Prosecco vineyards, all the time surrounded by the imposing Italian Dolomites. Cycle through Medieval villages, cypress-lined lanes and along the winding River Sile, towards the city of Venice, world-famous for its glorious architecture, rich history and iconic waterways. Your cycling tour starts in the charming walled city of Treviso. Cycle on through quiet farmland, passing small villages, towards the town of Mussolente, where you will spend two nights at a peaceful country hotel. The next day’s ride takes you through Bassano al Grappa, where you can taste the strong fiery liquor originating from the town. You continue past Monte Grappa, site of many battles during WWI. Il Sile (…) mormora, ride, scroscia, incupisce, spumeggia, sempre caro al cuore di tutti quelli che li sono affezionati, che lo conoscono da quando, bambini, si rincorrevano sulle sue rive, o gittavano sassi appiattiti nelle sue onde per vederli rimbalzare (Zago, 1932 p. 945). Il sole radente illuminava la distesa dei canneti brillanti di verde e in mezzo l‟acqua vitrea, profonda e lenta andava fino ad una svolta lontana. Una barca a remi scendeva con la corrente e un‟altra si internò tra i canneti, da questa scesero a terra due uomini che la portarono in secca e la capovolsero sulla riva (Comisso, 1935 p. 49). L‟oggetto di questa tesi è un preciso contesto storico-geografico vicino al paese in cui vivo. Nella prima parte tratto in generale l‟aspetto storico-geografico di questo fiume di risorgiva e, di conseguenza, individuo i rapporti tra l‟uomo e il territorio nel corso della storia. Nella seconda parte, più specifica, la scala geografica si restringe a Quinto di Treviso e ai suoi mulini, che nel corso dei secoli hanno avuto un‟ importanza vitale per la storia della Serenissima. La scelta dell‟argomento specifico dei mulini di Quinto è stata motivata anche dalla mancanza di studi approfonditi riguardo questa realtà. Abstract 1 The Asian chestnut gall wasp Dryocosmus kuriphilus Yasumatsu (Hymenoptera Cynipidae) is an invasive species in chestnut forests and orchards in many parts of the world. 2 Nuts produced by the European chestnut (Castanea sativa Miller) are important in human food and culture, and as a component in food webs in forest ecosystems. 3 Severe infestations are reported to reduce nut yield, although precise data are lacking because of large natural year-to-year variability in yield. 4 The recent colonization of chestnut orchards in north-eastern Italy, where nut yield has been continuously and precisely recorded for several years, offered an opportunity to calculate the impact of gall wasp infestation level on yield. 5 The nut yield of C. sativa chestnut trees was negatively related to the gall wasp infestation level, with losses as high as 80% being reported when the number of current-year galls was above six galls per 50-cm twig. 6 Yield losses can be explained by direct and indirect factors related to gall formation, and a fuller understanding of the mechanisms involved could identify possible mitigation measures.

    Dipartimento per la Sicurezza del Centro Funzionale Decentrato del Veneto Territorio Centro Meteorologico di Teolo Commento meteorologico evento VENERDI’ 1-DOMENICA 3 AGOSTO 2014 Fasi di instabilità limitate alle zone montane e pedemontane nel pomeriggio sera di venerdì 1 e di sabato 2, estese a gran parte della regione nelle ore centrali/pomeriggio di domenica 3, con precipitazioni a prevalente carattere di rovescio e temporale, localmente di forte intensità (forti rovesci, grandinate, forti raffiche di vento). In particolare domenica si verificano diversi fenomeni intensi su diverse zone della regione. SITUAZIONE GENERALE A partire da venerdì 1 e fino a domenica 3 agosto la regione è stata influenzata da un’ampia area depressionaria centrata sulle Isole Britanniche ma con estensione verso il Mediterraneo centrale, che ha determinato correnti umide e instabili da sud ovest in quota. Questo fatto, unito alla presenza sulla pianura padana di aria calda e con elevati tassi di umidità nei bassi strati, ha causato crescenti condizioni di instabilità sulla regione con diverse fasi di precipitazione a prevalente carattere di rovescio e temporale. Tale instabilità ha avuto il suo culmine nella giornata di domenica 3 agosto, quando precipitazioni a prevalente carattere di rovescio e temporale hanno interessato diverse zone della regione, con vari fenomeni di forte intensità. Nelle giornate di venerdì 1 e sabato 2 l’instabilità è risultata limitata solo ad alcune zone montane e pedemontane, mentre sul resto della regione le precipitazioni sono state generalmente assenti. In particolare Sabato 2 le precipitazioni si sono concentrate sul Bellunese e sulle zone più settentrionali del Trevigiano, dove si sono verificati in serata dei fenomeni intensi.
