His early education was in Manila, and then he began his college years at the University of St. Thomas. Desiring to move to his father’s home state, he transferred to Vanderbilt University, where he graduated in 1938 with an engineering degree. He was then employed by Hart, Freeland and Roberts (Nashville) as a civil engineer. In 1940, he married Katherine Elizabeth Kennedy, daughter of Thomas P. Kennedy and Estelle H. Allen Kennedy. Family records are as follows: with deep roots in Nashville, Tennessee, the union of George Demetrius Clements and Mary Serena Melborne created a family in varied ways to the city of Nashville. Through marriages, the records widen to include the family’s personal lives and varied professions including teaching, business, banking, medicine, and writing. Included are the records of George and Mary’s grandson, G. Paul Clements, who married Katherine Elizabeth Kennedy, thus bringing a business link to O’Bryan Brothers, Inc. The marriage of G. Paul and Katherine produced George Paul Clements, Jr., who grew up in Nashville and became a researcher and writer of the city’s history. The business records include information regarding O’Bryan Brothers, Inc., a Nashville- based distributor of men’s work and casual clothes. The materials in this collection include correspondence, photographs, wills, newspaper clippings, bank and medical records, school, military and business records, and architectural plans.
