  • The Films of John Korty, Feb 24—26
MEDIA ALERT BAMcinématek presents Fog City Maverick: The Films of John Korty, Feb 24—26 Korty in person! Co-presented by Cinema Conservancy “A man of taste, intelligence, and high aspirations who refuses to make conventional films.”—The New York Times The Wall Street Journal is the title sponsor for BAM Rose Cinemas and BAMcinématek. Brooklyn, NY/Jan 21, 2015—From Tuesday, February 24 through Thursday, February 26, BAMcinématek presents Fog City Maverick: The Films of John Korty, a three-day tribute to one of American independent cinema’s most distinctive, unsung voices. The Oscar- and Emmy-winning San Francisco director/animator has quietly carved out a one-of-a-kind career over the past five decades. Praised by Pauline Kael as one of the most “gifted, intelligent men outside the industry… attempting to make inexpensive feature-films as honestly and independently as they can,” Korty has forgone mainstream Hollywood ambitions despite his early Bay Area associations with George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola. Instead he chose to pursue uncompromisingly original, refreshingly offbeat indie projects across narrative, documentary, animation, and television that reflect his boundless visual imagination and humanistic outlook. Opening the series on Tuesday, February 24 is an exceedingly rare 35mm screening of the eye- popping cult animation masterpiece Twice Upon A Time (1983), barely seen on the big screen in New York since its tragically limited original release. Other highlights include Funnyman (1967— Feb 25), a stop-motion animation/live-action hybrid featuring legendary San Francisco comedy troupe the Committee; Korty’s feature debut The Crazy-Quilt (1966—Feb 25), part of the 1979 New York Film Festival’s seminal American Independents survey alongside classics The Cool World, Badlands, Sweet Sweetback’s Badasssss Song, and Northern Lights; and Korty’s Academy Award-winning documentary, Who Are the DeBolts? And Where Did They Get Nineteen Kids? (1977—Feb 26).

lopsided shape of the picture. It's so bulky Film and ravenous that it may have elbowed charcters out of the script and shouldered a dozen scenes out of the final cut. It's the kind of performance to which an actress's Mommie ego is obviously committed, where she puts everything she has on the line and dares the critics to hate her. The least you can say of Dearest Dunaway is that she totally inhabits the character. Her eyes appear unfocused and psychotic even in the rare moments when the character is in repose. As for "doing" Crawford, I found her expressions and mannerisms more arresting than the "un- canny" physical resemblance I was led to expect. Both actresses were endowed with Hal Crowther great cheekbones, but that's the extent of it. As of November, the market share for Korean films in the domestic market stood at 55 percent, which indicates that the yearly market share of Korean films will be over 50 percent for the third year in a row. In the international arena as well, Korean films were invited to major international film festivals including Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Locarno, and San Sebastian and received a warm reception from critics and audiences. It is often said that the current prosperity of Korean cinema is due to the strong commitment and policies introduced by the KIM Dae-joong government in 1999 to promote Korean films.

  • Writers Professional Materials
Writers Professional Working Materials INTRODUCTION Writers professional working materials and the tools of the trade – they are considered the sales tools for a writer’s work. These will be the most utilised materials when trying to establish yourself as a scriptwriter as either writer-for-hire work or when pitching your own original idea. No Producer or Production Company (locally or internationally) will ever read a script, treatment, logline or synopsis – unless a pre-existing relationship is in place – unsolicited. This means writers first need to be invited to send through materials in the manner that best suits that Producer or Production Companies. This helps to protect copyright or a copyright claim for both parties. It is also important to note that in international territories only Agents are able to introduce writers to Producers and Production Companies. Below each header you will find links to helpful sites and further information. As a screenwriter your job is to write, research, write, learn, write, and adapt. Google is your friend and before you ask Facebook for the answer, ask Google! Or check out the NZWG website for information on knowing your rights, contracting, useful facts and upcoming events. Before going any further, the below link is a must read for newcomers and is aimed at people applying for early development funding. It’s put together by Screen Australia, and is a very basic ‘How To Guide’ for feature filmmakers on application materials included in their application process – logline, synopsis & treatment. https://www.screenaustralia.gov.au/getmedia/ae5708a4-05d9-4db0-b5fb-4f999fdfed57/What-is-a- synopsis.pdf Below are all the materials broken into parts, starting with how to format your works.
