Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Allan Lichtman will speak on current affairs, community concerns and his candidacy Tues., Jan. 24, at 4:30 p.m. in the Blackistone Room of Anne Arundel Hall at St. Mary's College of Maryland (SMCM). The public is encouraged to attend.
Lichtman said that his candidacy gives voters a choice at the polls and believes he will represent the forward-looking traditions of the Democratic Party. "Please join with me to realize the dream of a government that respects our liberties, advances our economic security, and preserves our survival on a livable plan," he said. "Join me because we need a senator who will uphold the principles that the people of Maryland cherish and who will build new coalitions in the Senate."
Allan Lichtman graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Brandeis University, earned a doctoral degree from Harvard, and is a professor and former chair of the History Department at American University. He has authored six books, including The Keys to the White House. Lichtman's "keys system" predicted the popular vote result in every presidential election since 1984. Lichtman was a commentator and political analyst for CNN Headline News and a columnist for several Maryland newspapers. He has been cited by national newspapers, including the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the Baltimore Sun. Lichtman served as a consultant for former Vice President Al Gore and Senator Edward Kennedy. He has testified on civil rights issues in more than 70 cases for the U.S. Department of Justice and for civil rights groups such as the NAACP, the Mexican-American and Puerto Rican American Legal Defense and Education Funds, and the Southern Poverty Law Center. St. Mary's College of Maryland is ranked one of the best liberal arts colleges in the nation by U.S. News & World Report and The Princeton Review. With roots going back to 1840, SMCM is the state's only public honors college, offering the academic excellence of a top private college with the openness and affordability of public education.
