U.S. Senatorial Candidate Visits SMCM Today

Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Allan Lichtman will speak on current affairs, community concerns and his candidacy Tues., Jan. 24, at 4:30 p.m. in the Blackistone Room of Anne Arundel Hall at St. Mary's College of (SMCM). The public is encouraged to attend.

Lichtman said that his candidacy gives voters a choice at the polls and believes he will represent the forward-looking traditions of the Democratic Party. "Please join with me to realize the dream of a government that respects our liberties, advances our economic security, and preserves our survival on a livable plan," he said. "Join me because we need a senator who will uphold the principles that the people of Maryland cherish and who will build new coalitions in the Senate."

Allan Lichtman graduated from , earned a doctoral degree from Harvard, and is a professor and former chair of the History Department at . He has authored six books, including The Keys to the White House. Lichtman's "keys system" predicted the popular vote result in every presidential election since 1984. Lichtman was a commentator and political analyst for CNN Headline News and a columnist for several Maryland newspapers. He has been cited by national newspapers, including the Times, , and . Lichtman served as a consultant for former Vice President and Senator Edward Kennedy. He has testified on civil rights issues in more than 70 cases for the U.S. Department of Justice and for civil rights groups such as the NAACP, the Mexican-American and Puerto Rican American Legal Defense and Education Funds, and the Southern Poverty Law Center.
