DEBBIE WISEMAN MBE COMPOSER Throughout the past 20 years, there are probably few people in the UK who have not heard a theme from one of Debbie’s film or television scores. Whether it is watching Stephen Fry bring to life Oscar Wilde for the big screen, hearing the latest political commentary on a Sunday morning with Andrew Marr, or poring over T.S.Eliot’s love story in the Oscar nominated “Tom & Viv”, Wiseman has gifted us iconic themes of beauty and passion, love and laughter. Her credits, over 200 of them, for the big and small screen include FLOOD, WARRIORS, FRY’S PLANET WORD, JUDGE JOHN DEED, WILDE, OTHELLO, LAND GIRLS, JOANNA LUMLEY’S GREEK ODYSSEY, TOM & VIV, JEKYLL, HAUNTED, THE PASSION, THE GUILTY, BEFORE YOU GO, ARSENE LUPIN, HE KNEW HE WAS RIGHT, TOM’S MIDNIGHT GARDEN, MIDDLETOWN, LOST CHRISTMAS, THE ANDREW MARR SHOW and THE PROMISE. Debbie has been nominated for two Ivor Novello Awards for WILDE and DEATH OF YUGOSLAVIA, and has won a TRIC Award for THE GOOD GUYS and an RTS Award for WARRIORS. In 2007 she was awarded the Gold Badge of Merit by the British Academy of Composers & Songwriters, and the album of her music to accompany the fairy stories of Oscar Wilde was nominated for a Grammy Award. In 2004, Debbie was honoured in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List with an MBE for services to the music and film industry. She has been awarded Honorary Fellowships at both colleges where she studied, Trinity College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. In Classic FM’s Top 100 2010 Movie Music Chart, Debbie’s score for WILDE was voted in at number 12 by the station’s listeners. A suite of her music from the film was included in the Great British Film Music Prom concert at the Albert Hall. Debbie’s solo album, Piano Stories, a collection of her acclaimed scores arranged and performed by Debbie on solo piano, entered the UK Classical chart last year at number 10, and was the highest entry in Classic FM’s weekly chart. The debut LP of Italianate concerti grossi had a monochrome photograph of a church porch on the cover and the modest title “A Recital”. Humble beginnings indeed, but in 1962 “The Gramophone” devoted a full page to an enthusiastic review, concluding that it was played “with more sense of style than all the chamber orchestras in Europe put together”. Even so, it was more than a year before the sequel, “A Second Recital”, appeared. Two more such concert programmes ensued [all four are on CDs 1-2] but by then the Academy had been taken up by another label with a shift in policy more attuned to record collectors than to concert goers.

Our first Inclusive Choir was established in Oxford. Our pioneering inclusive music project in the early years was mentioned in the House of Commons. Dame Evelyn Glennie, John Rutter, Will Todd, Debbie Wiseman and others supported our #ShareTheLove campaign, which raised awareness of the importance of music for those with complex needs. We held our first ever Carol Service, led by the Soundabout Inclusive Choir and featuring readings from actress Celia Imrie and journalist Fergal Keane.
