3 Knox pic In the past, I have always started these notes with a look-back at the previous season. This year, I want to look forward to a Use from 2011 particular fixture in 2020, Ever since minor counties were excluded from the NatWest Trophy, Bucks have not faced a first-class county. However, this Knox pic year Bucks will be playing Surrey in a special one-day game at High Wycombe on Friday July 17th. Although it is a friendly, Use from 2011 Surrey are using the fixture as a warm-up for their one-day cup and will be fielding many of their regular 1st XI, although not those involved in the new One Hundred competition. It is a chance for local cricket fans to see some household names at close quarters, and provide valuable expereince for Bucks players. Another game of interest taking place at High Wycombe this season will be a one-day match between 70s and Australia on Monday June 29th, when money will be raised for the Prostrate Cancer UK charity. This follows the successful charity game between England and Bucks Over 60s teams on the same ground in 2019. That game was tinged with sadness as it was on that day that Bucks CCC President Stuart York died, and it was also was one of the last scored by John Goodman, who died a few months later. On the playing side, Bucks had a disappointing Championship campaign, which means that in 2020, they will be playing in Eastern Division 2 of the restructured and renamed National Counties Championship, by being in Division 2, they will be unable to add to their Minor Counties Championship titles this summer. However, Bucks enjoyed an excellent season in the T20 competition, reaching the finals day at Wormsley, before losing to the eventual champions in the semi-finals. It was also a busy season for Bucks senior, junior and women’s teams at all levels, which is reflected in this handbook. I am again grateful to Sports Shots and our long-standing secretary Kevin Beaumont (happily awarded the British Empire Medal for his services to minor counties cricket) for providing most of the photographs in this handbook.

Summers will not be the same without them. There could be no better successor to Stuart as President than Chairman Ian Hodgson with David Smith. He played 141 matches for the county over 22 new President David Smith seasons, during seven of which he captained the side. By a happy coincidence, photographs of both him and our Chairman appear on page 87 of Douglas Miller’s History of the Club – both looking a little fresher of face than they do today! He was, I think, his predecessor’s closest cricketing friend and I know that Stuart would be as happy as are we that he has agreed to accept this honour.

Championship restructure Last year, I wrote at some length on the coming changes to what is now National Counties cricket but, for completeness, I hope that I may be forgiven a brief resumé in this report. The unincorporated Minor Counties Cricket Association has been superseded by a newly-formed limited company – the National Counties Cricket Association – and the three competitions have been renamed accordingly. The T20 competition remains otherwise unchanged, the 50-over competition now starts with a group stage and the three-day Championship’s Eastern and Western Divisions have both been split into two divisions of five counties, with promotion and relegation between the two. In addition to these changes, henceforth each county shall have an annual “showpiece match” at home against a First Class county. The match will immediately precede the start of the Royal 50-overs competition and they will therefore treat it most seriously. We are delighted to have inaugural opponents of the stature and renown of Surrey; the match will take place on Friday 17th July at High Wycombe and is set fair to be the major event in our calendar. At the time of writing, it seems that half the country is under water and the pessimistic might imagine that, even in the Chilterns, conditions will never improve to a point where they are conducive to cricket – but, of course, they will eventually. Now that we have only four Championship matches, the weather may exert an even greater influence on our success but, subject to that and, of course, lack of injuries, we really should have every confidence in our ability to win Eastern Division 2 this year.

Comings and goings Our playing strength is unchanged apart from the departures of Andy Harris, whose employment has taken him north, and our professional, Garry Park. In the three years during which he played for us, Garry was unstinting in his efforts, not only on the field, but also in the help and guidance which he willingly gave to our younger players, his contribution to the good spirit of our playing squad and his friendliness to our Members at matches. As I wrote in my report last year, I am certain that, had he not been prevented by injury from playing in our match against Cambridgeshire in 2018, we would have won that match and consequently the Division. It was fitting that he was awarded his cap at the end of last season.

We could hardly have found a better successor to Garry than Alexei Kervezee (pictured). His record speaks for itself – 39 One Day Internationals for Holland, ten years with Worcestershire, (during which he scored six first-class hundreds and had a batting average of just under 30) and more than 1,000 Championship runs for Shropshire in the last two seasons. He will surely raise our level of performance in all three competitions.

18 Committee news Off the field, your Committee has worked as hard as ever and I am most grateful to all of them. Many members will be aware that our Treasurer, Neil Relph, suffered severe health problems last spring, which required him to relinquish all commitments, and we owe a great debt of gratitude to John Phillips for stepping into the breach – and particularly as this was in addition to his responsibilities as Membership Secretary and organiser of our 100 Club. I am delighted to be able to report that Neil’s recovery is progressing well, but sadly he is not yet strong enough to resume his responsibilities and we are fortunate that John has been willing to be elected formally into the position. New members Su Klyne and David Turberville “hit the ground running” and their enthusiasm and energy have been refreshing; we are enormously grateful to David and his family for adding sponsorship of our red-ball players’ clothing to the match sponsorship, which he and his father have donated for so many years. Enormous thanks are due to Bob Lane, who has stepped down after serving 16 years on the committee; additionally to his other contributions, for much of that time he has organised not only our Annual Dinner but, since its inauguration, our autumn Golf Day and Dinner. And, by the happiest of coincidences, Bill Scholes, who left the Committee last year in anticipation of his move away from the area, has found a home less distant than anticipated and has felt able to stand for re-election. Our discussions with the County Cricket Board on harmonising our operations continue and, although progress has been steady rather than rapid, the relationship is as harmonious as it has ever been; in particular, excellent progress has been made in improving co-operation in the areas of coaching and player development. Sponsorship & finance It is a truism that the cost of playing organised cricket at both club and county level continues to rise inexorably. A recent and substantial addition to our commitments is the requirement for coloured clothing for limited-overs cricket and we have cause to be very grateful to Chris Sketchley’s Incredible Sports Company for their generous sponsorship of that. And our gratitude is due to EJH Horticulture for their sponsorship of our Championship match at Chesham and to all those Members and others who kindly sponsored players. I am always chary of treading on our Treasurer’s toes, but I hope that he will forgive me for observing that the combination of the largesse of our aforementioned sponsors and improved funding from the ECB places us in a more favourable financial position than we have experienced for some considerable time. However, and quite rightly, the ECB funding comes with expectations and requirements, which will entail not only additional effort to deliver but also a continuing drive to identify new sources of sponsorship. If, as is hoped, the end result is that we raise the standard of the cricket which we play, produce more players capable of progression to the First Class game and increase the number of people who attend and enjoy our matches, it will all be worthwhile. As ever, I wish all our teams and Members a very enjoyable and successful summer’s cricket; as I hope is always evident, our committee members are always delighted to hear the views of our Members at matches; we may not be able to act on every suggestion, but each one really does receive due consideration! 19 OBITUARIES

STUART YORK Stuart Ernest York, the Bucks CCC President since 2014, died on Friday 23rd August at the age of 80 Stuart played 35 Championship matches for the County between 1971 and 1979, once scoring 118 against Hertfordshire. He also scored 73 not out at Lord’s against Middlesex in the 1975 Gillette Cup, when he shared an unbroken eighth- stand of 56 with Brian Poll, then a record for the competition. Stuart served in various capacities on the Stuart York presents Committee from 1983 onwards, chairing the finance and general the 2018 Horace Perrin purposes committee, and managed the Club’s first overseas tour Trophy to Michael Payne to Australia in 1989. He was chairman from 1997 to 2010 and President since 2014. He was one of only three Honorary Life Members. As well as being an outstanding servant of the Club, he attended, with his wife Pat, almost every match, home and away and was always excellent company. He will be greatly missed, not only by our club but by the Club cricket Conference and High Wycombe CC, where he was a long-standing player and captain, but also by the wider Minor Counties community. Stuart came to High Wycombe from Northampton in the late 1960s to manage a building society. He was a prominent member of the town’s Rotary Club. He was also a member of Beaconsfield Golf Club and was a great supporter of the Bucks CCC’s annual Golf Day. To commemorate Stuart’s contribution to Bucks cricket, the Club are instituting a new trophy in his memory to be awarded to the Bucks’ ‘white ball’ cricketer of the year.

PETER STODDART Peter LB Stoddart, who captained Bucks from 1959 to 1965, died on April 18th 2019 at the age of 84. In a 13-year career for Bucks, Peter, a stylish batsman, scored 3,097 runs at an average of 28.15 with two centuries and took 50 catches in 78 Championship matches. He is best remembered for leading out Bucks on their first appearance at Lord’s - the 1965 Gillette Cup tie against Middlesex. Unfortunately, he was run out without facing a ball as Bucks fell to a 158-run defeat. His term as Bucks captain came to a controversial end at the 1966 annual meeting. He was nominated to continue by the Bucks committee, but was beaten on a ballot by High Wycombe’s Brian Janes, who as the rules then allowed, was nominated on the night. An Old Etonian, Peter played one first-class match for MCC against Ireland in 1958. He was a Vice-President of Bucks.

DAVID BURDEN David Burden, a member of the club for many years, died on 26th June 2019, after suffering for some seven years from a rare form of liver cancer. After many years as an accomplished club cricketer with Finchampstead, he became an umpire in the early 1990s, very rapidly progressing to an 18-year career as a Minor Counties umpire, during which he officiated in many of their most prestigious matches. Right to the end of the 2018 summer, whenever Minor Counties cricket was being played and he was not umpiring, he and his partner Anthea Heslop would be found at either a Bucks or a Berkshire match and he was a great supporter of both counties. He retained his spirit and joie-de-vivre to the end, and will be greatly missed by many of our players and supporters.

20 JOHN GOODMAN With the passing of John Goodman, who died in October at the age of 76, cricket has lost a devoted and diligent servant. He played the game for a year as a 15-year-old but, in his own words “was hopeless so decided I had reached my peak and retired”. However, to the great benefit of the game, he continued to score, ultimately recording more than John Goodman, being presented with 3,000 matches over a 63-year career. During a match his ‘cap’ by Ron Hedley for reaching in 2018, our Over 60s Manager presented him with a 500 grounds scored at in 2018 celebratory cap to mark the 500th ground at which he had scored. John kept detailed records of all his scoring activities; as well as his beloved Chipperfield (now Chipperfield Clarendon), of which he was a past-President, and Old Merchant Taylors (of which he was an Honorary Life Member), these included the Club Cricket Conference, Bucks CCC 1st XI and Bucks CCC Over 50s, 60s and 70s matches. He also scored many of their matches for the Australian Crusaders whenever they toured in England and led to several visits during their summers; he became good friends with the ex-Test Umpire Darrell Holt. At the time of his death, John Goodman was fixture secretary of both the Home Counties Premier League and the Thames Valley League - a total of 50 years service in that capacity, having held a similar post for the 1975 League until its amalgamation with the TVL. More than 200 attended his funeral service in Sarratt.

SIMON TROTTER The Marlow CCC secretary died at the age of 53. He joined High Wycombe CC in 1987 when he was 21 and played the entire season in the TVL winning side before becoming vice-captain in 1988. He was a fine middle-order batsman. During his years at Wycombe, he also played for the Bucks Under 25 team. In 1993 he joined Marlow CC and played for the 1st X1 for many years until the first stage of his illness was diagnosed. He was club secretary for 12 years, during which he also coached the Bucks Under 12, Under 14 and Under 17 sides. Bucks are also sad to record the death of their longest-serving member JOHN BENNETT, who died in Thame at the age of 96. John, who came from High Wycombe, had been a member for an amazing 81 years, having been made life member in 1938.

23 DIRECTOR OF CRICKET’S REPORT 2 019

Seeing individual players and squads collectively improve is one of the major reasons management and coaching can be so rewarding. Backroom staffs throughout the country will be reviewing and putting their learning into place for the new season - we are no different! Last year, we definitely made strides forward in the T20 competition. Our roster seems suited to the white-ball format which is encouraging, though improvements need to be made in our Championship cricket. Too many times last season we lacked the killer-edge when getting into very strong positions. I can guarantee we will be looking at all areas where we can make adjustments and ultimately try to implement them into our DNA. Looking ahead to 2020, many of you know we are entering a very exciting period at National Counties level, with changes to a pyramid structure in the Championship. From time to time, tough decisions have to be made for the good of the county. Unfortunately this winter was one of them. We decided not to renew Garry Park’s contract. Garry has been a fantastic pro on and off the pitch. I personally would like to thank him for his excellent service and would like to wish him all the best in the future. Looking to the squad for the summer we have signed a new professional in Alexei Kervezee, the former Netherlands, Worcestershire and Shropshire batsman. I am sure you all join me in welcoming him to the club . As always I must thank Ian Hodgson and Kevin Beaumont for their unquestioned backing in my beliefs of driving the county forward, Tom Hampton our passionate captain, Simon Stanway my assistant, our Academy manager Tim Russell and all the scorers who are all very much part of our team . Congratulations to Robin Pritchard, Shelvin Gumbs, Jon Burden, George Russell and Garry Park, all of whom received their county caps in the summer after excellent service. Looking forward to catching up with our members and loyal supporters throughout this summer. Jason Harrison

24 CAPTAIN’S REPORT

Looking back at the season there are definitely mixed feelings, which reflect the mixed results. On the whole I am pleased with the progress the squad is making.

White-ball cricket on the whole was really pleasing. To build on the performances we put in 2018 and dominate the group stage in the fashion we did was a credit to all the guys involved. It was a shame that we weren’t able to replicate the form from the group stage at finals day.

It’s good news that there won’t be such a long gap in between the group stage and finals day next year. The key now will be to ensure we improve again on what we have done. The increase in white-ball cricket with a group stage for the one-day games as well as a game against a first-class county should really suit us.

Red-ball cricket was not quite as positive in 2019. After a good showing the previous year, we never managed to get going. We produced some good periods at times, but were not able to really put in a complete performance over three days. That being said, we did play on some docile pitches, which were not conducive for positive play with bat or ball.

One of the real stand-outs in red-ball cricket was AJ Woodland - his consistency in occupying the crease as a opening batsman was very impressive. He also showed great improvements with the ball.

There is definitely more to come from this group of players and I am convinced that success and trophies are not far away. I would like to thank all who followed us last year and hope to see you in 2020. Tom Hampton

34 UNICORNS COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIP Hertfordshire v Buckinghamshire at Bishop’s Stortford on Sunday-Tuesday June 23rd-25th Match drawn Toss won by Hertfordshire Bucks had to settle for a draw after heavy overnight rain washed out the final day.The hosts chose to bat first on a benign pitch and at one stage were 196-9. But a last wicket-stand took them to 257-9 from their 90 overs. Bucks’ reply centred around a studied innings of 89 in four hours from AJ Woodland, who shared a third-wicket stand of 103 with Charlie Macdonell, who hit seven fours in his 62. Lively batting down the order helped Bucks secure a first-innings lead of 35. In the three hours remaining on the second day, Suffolk reached 156-1, so even if there had been play on the final day, a positive result might have been difficult.

35 36 UNICORNS COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIP Buckinghamshire v Suffolk at High Wycombe on Sunday-Tuesday July 7th-9th Suffolk won by 246 runs. Toss won by Bucks Bucks, who started the final day, with a fair chance of victory, ended up suffering a crushing defeat. Put in to bat, Suffolk recovered from 183-7 to 337 as Bucks again failed to polish off the tail. The hosts’ reply centred on a fourth-wicket stand between AJ Woodland, who again fell short of his maiden Championship century, and Michael Payne. Some late fireworks from Tom Hampton, who hit four sixes, helped Bucks reach 291 a first-innings deficit of 46. When Suffolk slipped to 57-5 in their second innings, the hosts sensed victory. But an unbroken ninth-wicket stand of 136 between Tom Rash, who scored a maiden Championship century, and Josh Cantrell enabled Suffolk to set Bucks a target of 361 for victory off a minimum of 64 overs. They surrendered meekly for 114, losing their last five wickets for seven runs.

38 UNICORNS COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIP Buckinghamshire v Northumberland at Chesham on Sunday-Tuesday July 21st-23rd Bucks won by 6 wkts Toss won by Northumberland The trio of High Wycombe seamers - Jonathan Burden, Cameron Parsons and skipper Tom Hampton - took 16 of the 20 wickets as Bucks clinched a six-wicket win on the final afternoon, their only Championship win of the summer. The first-innings honours went to Burden, who took 5-52 as Northumberland were restricted to 232 all out after choosing to bat first. It needed a ninth-wicket stand of 54 in ten overs between Robin Pritchard and Hampton to give Bucks a first-innings lead of 50. There was an unusual delay to the start of the Northumberland second innings, when the Chesham groundstaff encountered difficulties in starting the heavy roller, which was requested by the visiting captain. Play was delayed by some 40 minutes. When play did resume, Northumberland soon slipped to 22-4 and then 57-5 after super bowling from Hampton, who at one stage was on a hat-trick, and Burden. A spirited 57 from Adam Hickey took the match into the final day, when Parsons (4-46) wrapped up the tail. Needing 136 for victory, Bucks were guided home by AJ Woodland (69 no), with his third Championship half-century in as many games.

39 UNICORNS COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIP Bedfordshire v Buckiinghamshire at Flitwick on Sunday-Tuesday August 4th-6th Match drawn Toss won by Bedfordshire Despite losing the toss, Bucks did well to reduce the hosts to 166-7, but again could not prevent a tail-end recovery and they reached 266, seamer AJ Woodland being the pick of the bowlers. Tring Park seamer Mo Choudhry’s Championship debut was curtailed by a leg injury. Bucks were disappointingly dismissed for 159, conceding a first-innings deficit of 107. Beds capitalised on this with a second wicker-stand of 188 and their declaration at 272-6 left Bucks needing 380 for victory in a minimum of 90 overs. Michael Payne took 5-62 in the second innings. Woodland hit his first ball for four but did not hit another boundary in his 188-ball innings. With Masoor Khan making it 82 not out, Bucks had long secured the draw before rain brought an early conclusion at tea.

40 UNICORNS COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIP Norfolk v Buckinghamshire at Manor Park, Norwich on Sunday-Tuesday August 18th-20th Norfolk won by 2 wkts. Toss won by Norfolk Bucks suffered a narrow defeat in a low-scoring match on a spin-friendly pitch. After being put in to bat, Bucks were dismissed for 219, which owed much to Masoor Khan’s 88, the highest score of the match. Norfolk recovered to secure a first-innings lead of sevens runs, despite a tidy spell from young left-arm spinner Conner Haddow, who took 4-78 from 33 overs. In the second innings Bucks slipped from 69-1 to 88-6 before reaching 169 all out. Set 163 for victory, the hosts appeared to be struggling at 80-5, but eventually edged home. Haddow returned 5-55 for outstanding match figures of 9-133 from 55.5 overs.

41 42 UNICORNS COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIP Buckinghamshire v Cumberland at Tring Park on Sunday-Tuesday September 1st-3rd Cumberland won by 7 wkts. Toss won by Cumberland Bucks were on the back foot after Cumberland amassed 360-8 on the first day, thanks to a century from Gary Pratt, remembered for running out Australian captain Ricky Ponting when acting as a substitute fielder for England in the 2005 Ashes series. Harefield seamer Jordan McLeod performed well on his Championship debut. Bucks replied with 204 and were asked to follow on. Opener Dan Marles led the second-innings resistance with a sturdy 91 from 197 balls, but his dismissal led to a collapse. Set 114 for victory Cumberland completed a comfortable success just after 3pm. Bucks were unfortunate to lose the services of leading scorer AJ Woodland, who suffered a serious ankle injury in the pre-match warm-up. The result meant Bucks finished seventh in the Eastern Division, which leads to a place in Eastern Division 2 for the restructured 2020 Championship season.

Cornwall chose to bat first and made 189-8, having been struggling at 91-6 at one stage. The hosts were indebted to an unbroken ninth-wicket stand of 52 in six overs between Tommy Sturgess and David Lello. Spinners Masoor Khan and Stephen Croft were the pick of the Bucks attack and Dan Marles took three catches on the long-off boundary. Bucks made a disastrous start to their reply, crashing to 31-5. The Cornish bowlers took full advantage of a pitch which seemed to be much livelier in the second innings. From 56 -6, Dan Marles (46) led a recovery and, while first skipper Tom Hampton scored 33 from just 12 balls and George Russell then hit 28 from 25 balls, an unlikely victory seemed possible. However, both perished in the chase and eventually Bucks were all out for 154, with 5.3 overs of their allocation remaining.

46 TWENTY 20 Berkshire v Buckinghamshire at Wargrave on Monday May 6th Toss won by Bucks Berkshire won by 7 runs Bucks shared the spoils with reigning champions Berkshire in the first group stage double-header. In the first match, Bucks chose to bowl first and seemed set for victory after restricting the hosts to 131-8 from their 20 overs. This was largely due to two early wickets from left-arm spinner Masoor Khan, who also held on to a spectacular one-handed catch in the deep to dismiss Berkshire’s top scorer for 46. But we also struggled on a slow surface against a predominantly spin attack and managed only 124-6 in reply, Garry Park top-scoring with 42.

47 TWENTY 20 Berkshire v Buckinghamshire at Wargrave on Monday May 6th Toss won by Bucks Bucks won won by 7 runs Bucks also won the toss in the second match but this time chose to bat first, with leg-spinner Stephen Croft replacing skipper Tom Hampton. The visitors seemed set for a big total when reaching 77-3 after ten overs, thanks to newcomer Conrad Lough and Garry Park. But Bucks failed to score a single boundary in the last ten overs of the innings and finished on a disappointing 127-8. Berkshire also struggled against tight fielding and bowling and came to the last over bowled by Michael Payne, needing 14 for victory. But two catches in the deep off successive balls saw them fall short on 123-6.

48 TWENTY 20 Buckinghamshire v Oxfordshire at High Wycombe Sunday May 26th Bucks won by 7 wkts Toss won by Bucks A brilliant spell of seam bowling on his home ground by Jonathan Burden set up the first win of this double-header. He returned the remarkable figures of 3-9 in four overs and landed a direct hit for a run out to limit Oxfordshire to 138-9. Bucks made light of this below-par target as Conrad Louth and Saif Zaib paved the way for Charlie Macdonell to hit 52 not out in 32 balls to clinch a seven-victory with 2.4 overs to spare.

49 TWENTY 20 Buckinghamshire v Oxfordshire at High Wycombe Sunday May 26th Bucks won by 7 wickets Toss won by Oxfordshire In the second game, Oxfordshire chose to bat first, scoring 162-9, Oxon skipper Johnny Cater top-scoring with 68 from 36 balls. Andy Harris, with 2-23, was the pick of the Bucks bowlers. A spectacular stand of 95 from just 7.2 overs between Conrad Louth and Saif Zaib paved the way for another seven-wicket victory. Louth struck 70 off 34 balls, with four sixes and seven fours. Macdonell, with an unbeaten 44 in 22 balls, saw Bucks home in just 13.4 overs.

50 TWENTY 20 Herefordshire v Buckinghamshire at Colwall on Sunday June 9th Bucks won by 10 wkts Toss won by Herefordshire In the first match of this double-header, Jonathan Burden struck with the first ball of the game, before rain intervened after nine overs of their innings, with Herefordshire’s score on 43-3. The rain was heavy and prolonged and conditions improved only just in time for the match to proceed, with the Bucks innings limited to the minimum possible five overs. Chasing a revised DLS target of 33, Bucks reached their target without loss with just two balls to spare.

Sunday 14th June 2020

52 TWENTY 20 Herefordshire v Buckinghamshire at Colwall on Sunday June 9th Bucks won by 10 wkts Toss won by Herefordshire The home side batted the full 20 overs in the second game, but they were restricted to to 104-9. Spinners Michael Payne (3-19) and Conner Haddow (2-20) led a superb all-round bowling display. Rain intervened again after four overs of the Bucks reply with the score on 35-0. With one more over needing to be bowled to constitute a match, the visitors endured a nervous wait. Play eventually resumed with Bucks needing a revised target of 78 in 14 overs. This was achieved in just 8.5 overs without loss thanks to an astonishing 69 not out off 38 balls by Conrad Louth, who hit four sixes and seven fours.

53 TWENTY 20 Buckinghamshire v Shropshire at Gerrards Cross on Sunday June 16th Bucks won by 7 wkts Toss won by Bucks Needing just one win from their last double-header to top the group and clinch a place on finals day, Bucks romped to a resounding victory. Tight bowling and superb fielding saw Shropshire restricted to 110-7, Saif Zaib taking 4-25 in his four overs. Bucks knocked off the runs in just 14.1 overs, Conrad Louth again shining with a sparkling 65 not out from 48 balls, including three sixes and seven fours.

54 TWENTY 20 Buckinghamshire v Shropshire at Gerrards Cross on Sunday June 16t Bucks won by 71 runs Toss won by Bucks With their place in the semi-finals secured, Bucks made changes to the for the second game. Shelvin Gumbs smashed 82 from just 47 balls, with six sixes, one of which entered the pavilion bar through an open doorway. It was an occurrence the many Gerrards Cross members, who were present could not remember happening before. Bucks finished on 171-6 from their 20 overs. Shropshire never got remotely close after another slick Bucks fielding display, highighted by Charlie Macdonell’s direct hit to run out Simon Gregory and they finished on 100-7.

55 UNICORNS TWENTY 20 SEMI-FINAL Buckinghamshire v Hertfordshire at Wormsley on Sunday August 25 Hertfordshire won by 12 runs Toss won by Hertfordshire Bucks went into the finals day in confident mood, having won seven of the eight group matches, but lost by 12 runs to eventual champions Hertfordshire in the semi-finals. Winning the toss, Herts rattled up 180-8 from their 20 overs, led by Reece Hussain’s 67 from 42 balls. Spinners Saif Zaib (3-38) and Masoor Khan (2-27) were the pick of the Bucks attack. This was a stiff target, but thanks to Zaib, Bucks came very close. The Northants all-rounder slammed 86 off just 48 balls with a six and 14 fours to give us a fighting chance. However, losing three wickets in three balls on 164 ended our chances and we finished on 168-8. Hertfordshire went on the lift the title with a one-sided nine-wicket win over Dorset in the final.

60 BUCKS ACADEMY REPORT 2019

Bucks Academy had another season of good results, retaining both the Beynon Cup and the Tom Orford Trophy.

In The Beynon Cup T20 competition, played at Bishops Stortford, Bucks were drawn against Free Foresters in first game. Foresters made a lightning start with 49 coming from six overs, with the main contributor being J Parlow (36). When he was dismissed, the innings slowed down considerably and wickets fell at regular intervals to leave Free Foresters 133 all out from 19 overs. The pick of the bowlers were Jack Rodnight (3-18), Conor Haddow (2-22) and Aashi Zaib (2-22). Bucks also scored 49 coming from the first six overs, with three wickets down. At this point Will Hatton (37) joined Dan Ogden (71no) and they put together a partnership of 83 from 11 overs, which meant Bucks won the match by six wickets with two overs left.

Hertfordshire Stags beat Bedfordshire in the other game which left a Bucks v Herts final. Bucks struggled in the field and could not get control. The best performance was from Lawrence Snookes who bowled well in his spell of three overs for eight runs as Herts made a competitive 142-3 from their 20 overs. Bucks started well, scoring 80 from the first ten overs with Dan Ogden contributing 42 from 28 balls. With his dismissal the scoring rate slowed down but Jack Rodnight ( 25 ) and Jai Angell ( 24 ) played sensibly. They were both out within an over of each other and Bucks needed 20 from three overs and six from the last. The first two balls were pushed into the legside for twos, followed by a dot ball. The fourth ball was hit for six over wide mid-on to secure the win with two balls left. So Bucks successfully retained the trophy and made it three wins in a row.

In the Tom Orford Trophy three-day competition, we first met the Free Foresters at High Wycombe. An outstanding innings from Dan Ogden (133) was the highlight, but good support from Scott Rolfe (84) and Jonny Bowers (66) encouraged Bucks to declare on 341-6 from 78 overs. Free Foresters replied with 327-8 dec from 76 overs. The most successful bowler for Bucks was Sulaiman Akhtar with 3-38 off ten overs with Mo Choudhry and Stepehn Croft taking two wickets each. The Bucks second innings was dominated early on by Teddy Casterton (118) who was dismissed with the score on 227-5 from 52 overs. Then some excellent middle-order batting from Jack Rodnight (51), Aizaz Ahmed (75) and Mo Choudhry (59no) enabled Bucks to declare on 385-9 from 100 overs. This left Foresters needing 400 to win with lots of time left. They were well-placed at 206-4 and then at 355-7, but the last three wickets fell in the space of two overs to give Bucks a narrow victory. On a very good batting pitch, the top Bucks bowlers were Sami Sajid (3-35), Sulaiman Akhtar (3-40) and Stephen Croft (3-93).

62 The final match in the Tom Orford Trophy was played against Lincolnshire at Barton Town CC. Bucks reduced reduced the hosts to 90 for 5 from the first 28 overs, with Jack Rodnight (5-59), Jordan Mcleod (2-37) and doing the early damage. Lincoln recovered well to reach 251 from 76 overs The Bucks innings followed a similar pattern, with the score on 116-4 from 25 overs. Then a magnificent partnership of 203 between Scott Rolfe (135) and Jack Rodnight (109) laid the foundations for Bucks to reach 393 all out from 86 overs. In the second innings, Lincolnshire collapsed to Connor Haddow, who finished with 7-17 in a superb display of slow bowling on a receptive wicket. Lincoln were bowled out for 100 in 38 overs to give Bucks an innings and 42-run victory and ensured that Bucks retained the trophy.

The only one-day game that we managed to start was against CCC U25 at Gerrards Cross, but it was badly affected by rain. CCC scored 146-9, the pick of the bowlers being Nouman Aslam with 3-29, while wicketkeeper Will Hatton took five catches. Just as Bucks were about to start their innings there was a heavy shower and the game was abandoned.

Summing up, the season went well with the integration of several young players from the BCB pathway, all of whom contributed to the team, both in performance and attitude and enjoyed the company of the older players. The attitude, quality and energy shown throughout most of the playing sessions was excellent. There were short periods during sessions when a lack of concentration crept in which produced errors during the fielding and batting disciplines, particularly during the multi-day games. It is a good experience for the younger players and they will reap long term rewards.

I would like to thank all of the umpires who officiated during the season, the ever- present Paul Dean our scorer, Academy coach Tom Hampton, and Kevin Beaumont for all of his ‘out-of-season’ help in organising the grounds, umpires and scorer. I would also like to thank all the clubs who have supported the Academy with the use of their grounds, and the hospitality they provide is greatly appreciated.

63 BUCKS CRICKET BOARD REPORT 2020

The Men’s World Cup and provided a perfect backdrop to the summer of cricket which had many notable successes on a local level. All Stars Cricket for five-to-eight-year-olds entered its third year and grew once again with 1,100 children attending the programme across 32 centres in Bucks. These were followed up with ‘Have A Go’ sessions run by BCB in parks in Milton Keynes, Aylesbury and High Wycombe to capitalise on the increased interest in the game. The Chance to Shine schools programme, run in Bucks by James Savory, was delivered into 68 primary schools. The scheme targeted school years 3 and 4 to transition boys and girls into All Stars Cricket. The traditional Kwik Cricket Festivals provided the framework for years 5 & 6 Primary School pupils – with seven all-day competitions held around the County for boys and girls, feeding into a County Finals Day at Dinton CC. Gerrards Cross Primary won the Boys County Final, and Chalfont St Peter won the Girls’ competition. We have some fantastic coaches delivering across the schools, particularly the two community coaches who came on board in 2019, Stu McLaughlin and George Morris. Women and Girls Cricket continues to grow within the county, with six clubs entering the Home Counties Women’s League in 2019. Stony Stratford topped Division 1 North & West, whilst Chesham came second in Division 1 South & East. Hannah Francis, who also represents Bucks Women & U17s, won the Bowler of the Year award. A total of 31 secondary schools entered winter indoor competitions in 2019, and girls club leagues are in the offing for 2020. Emma Boswell did some great work supporting women and girls’ cricket, as well as clubs across the board, and we will miss her as she moves onto new pastures in 2020. £12,000 of small grants were allocated out across seven clubs in Bucks for wet weather provision and £28,000 was allocated by the Cricket World Cup fund for 28 clubs for the catering or digitization of the club. We have 30 Clubmark clubs in Buckinghamshire, with 16 gaining full reaccreditation this year. Alongside the Clubmark process, we have our County Welfare Officer, Hugh Suter working away, be it formal or informal training for our Club Welfare officers and dealing with any issues. Coach Education support was given to our club network, now run in collaboration with the rest of the ECB South Central counties. There were 31 new coaches in Bucks in 2019, a number we hope grows annually with the new Foundation 1 courses which were due to start in January 2020. Player Pathway coaches, Jason Rance, Rich Hudson and Sam Jarman delivered two workshops for club coaches in May, one at Cublington CC and the other at Holmer Green CC. A Groundsman’s Workshop was delivered by the IOG in Aylesbury in April. Our disability cricket programme delivered coaching in eight schools (disability cricket and table cricket), three community settings, one indoor hub and two outdoor clubs at Great Kingshill CC and Waddesdon CC. Bucks Youth Cricket Trust continued their generous support of Girls Cricket, Junior Club Cricket, Disability and hardship cases. The Trust held a Golf Day in April 2019 at the Three Locks in Great Brickhill, bringing together members of the cricketing community in Bucks and beyond.

64 The BCB not only gives support to clubs but receives great support from our club network. Clubs offer their grounds to our boys and girls age group teams for county games and practice. More than 100 home games were hosted by our Clubs in 2019, a heartfelt thanks to all our hosts. To this end, the Bucks Association Cricket Officials appointed umpires to all our matches played against other counties last year - thanks to those in white coats. The ACO, through Yolanda and Anna Harris, also supported 25 new ‘young officials’ through their workshops, who were then able to support school festivals and club matches. The Junior Competitions again saw some fantastic cricket and young people enjoying the game in the spirit we all wish to see. Ed Page and Martin Watts worked tirelessly behind the scenes to organize and administrate a comprehensive programme that also saw changes to pitch sizes and players per team to improve young player’s experience of the game. The winners of the competitions were: Leagues: U10 - Amersham; U11 - Gerrards Cross; U12 - Chesham; U13 - Great Brickhill; U14 - Great Brickhill; U15 - Chesham. Cups: U11 - Gerrards Cross; U13 - Great Brickhill; U15 - Stony Stratford. U19 - Chesham.

Many congratulations to the winners and a thanks to all the volunteers that ensure cricket can thrive in Buckinghamshire at all levels. Jason Rance has moved into the Player Pathway Head Coach role seamlessly and brings to the role a great ability to build rapport with players and challenge them to become better cricketers. Isabella Fitzgibbon, our Women’s overseas player in 2020, had a fantastic impact as a player and coach. We have 20 coaches that deliver on our boys’ and girls’ pathway and they do a brilliant job supporting young cricketers and working to an aligned ethos to improve the development and experience of the players. There are exciting times ahead across the game. We have recently employed Shaz Khan as an Urban Cricket Manager to engage diverse communities in non-traditional forms of cricket as well as supporting the existing club structure. Also in 2020 we will see ECB’s new Dynamos Cricket which will act as a follow-on from All Stars for 9-11 year-olds in clubs who want to continue to engage in softball game-based cricket. Our relationship with Bucks County Cricket Club continues to grow as we work together on the new strategy for cricket in Bucks for 2020 to 2024. With closer alignment of the U17s to the Academy teams we can ensure a clearer and stronger pathway for players.

BUCKS PATHWAY REPORTS 2019 (edited versions from the Bucks Board website)

UNDER 17 BOYS Bucks finished runners-up in the one-day competition. There were a series of mixed results, but performances improved later in the season.

UNDER 15 BOYS Competing in Group 2A of the ECB Royal London Cup, Bucks won four match and lost four. The team were well led by Jai Angell, who scored a brilliant century against Wales. Spinner Ed Price was the leading wicket-taker for a team that lacked strength in seam bowling. 65 UNDER 14 BOYS In an excellent season, Bucks had to settle for third place in their ECB Cup group, after their last match was ruined by rain. Seamer William Cliffe impressed with his pace and bounce, while Aatish Antathi and Kahil Jariwala were prolific scorers. Billy Dodds shone with both bat and ball in the victory over Worcestershire. A total of 27 players were used in the Under 14/15 development teams, the highlights being Ollie Stalder’s run-a-ball 110 not out v Berkshire and Charlie Doe’s 93 against London Schools. The Bromsgrove Festival was ruined by rain.

UNDER 13 BOYS There were a number of notable displays, but the important thing was the improvement made by the team during the season.

UNDER 12 BOYS The highlights were Anay Jariwala’s half-centuries against Cumbria and Oxon Saxons as he totalled 203 runs. James Batchelor took 5-32 in the narrow defeat by Leicestershire, while James Conway led the wicket-takers with 11. In the under 12/13 development squad, Will Bamford (67) and Will Diver (51) shared a stand of 102, while Chris Goede returned 4-6 v Berkshire. Bamford was the leading scorer with 104 runs, while William Harrison led the wicket-takers with nine.

UNDER 11 BOYS Byron Page-Medina scored half-centuries against Northants and London Schools, while Edward Horsley and Adi Allam also passed fifty. There were three-wicket hauls for Daniel Chapman and Harrison Price.

UNDER 10 BOYS In Under 10/11 squad, Teddy Purushothaman shone with both bat and ball, while Joshua Morris scored 43 in the T20 win over Oxfrordshire. George Greer returned figures of 4-5 against Berkshire, as Bucks won seven of their eight matches in an excellent season. BUCKS WOMEN There was trepidation at the start of the season as Bucks went to Cornwall with nine players for their opening County Championship match. With their coach playing, the ten-strong Bucks side actually won the match thanks to their spin attack. New Australian recruit Bella Fitzgibbon proved an inspiration. A second win came against Wiltshire at Salisbury. After a defeat by Oxfordshire, Bucks bounced back to defeat Gloucestershire and Dorset in their last two 50-over competition, which saw them finish second in their division. Bucks were also runners-up in the T20 competition, with five wins in eight matches, including a double over Cambridgeshire. Overall it was an amazing season, with more wins than defeats. The final verdict was “A bunch of great girls, helped by a great Aussie, who fitted well into the side. Exciting times ahead.”

66 UNDER 17 GIRLS In the 40-over ECB Perfromance League, Bucks lost their first three matches, but won their return games against Middlesex and Oxfordshire and triumphed home and away against Northants. in the T20 competition, they finished second in the table after wins against Middlesex and Hertfordshire to earn a place in the Regional semi-finals. They beat Surrey in the last four before going down to a strong Kent side in the final. Becca Duggan was praised for her “tireless management.”

UNDER 15 GIRLS The highlight of the season came, when Bucks secured an unlikely win against Northants in the 40-over competition. They collapsed to 9-6 before Bethan Miles (74*) and Rosie Burton-Pye (34) added 102 for the seventh wicket to earn a three-wicket victory. Skipper Hannah Davis was the leading scorer with 169 runs, wHile Miles took 15 wickets with her left-arm spin. Cambridgeshire and Notts were also beaten. In the Under 15 development games, Elizabeth Knottt scored 52* v Dorset, while Amelia Spooner had two three-wicket hauls

UNDER 13 GIRLS The team played 17 matches, including three inter-county contests. Molly Carter and Rosie Jones scored half-centuries at the Malvern Festival, while Amelia Jones (50*) and Fran Burton-Pye (3-4) shone against Berkshire. The development side had only one inter-county match. Georgia Lloyd made 29* v Berkshire, while Jess McPhillips, Anah Rahman and Ava Gabriele each took two wickets.

UNDER 11 GIRLS Bucks came third of five teams in an Under 13 tournament and also won an Under 11 tournament. Louisa Kilby and Mishka Batra were named best bowlers in the respective tournaments. Chloe Maddock then returned amazing figures of 6-16 in five overs against Hampshire. Helena Carter and Anne Dow were the most impressive players in the development squad.

The Bucks girls and boys award winners with Middlesex former Bucks player Tom Helm.

OVER 50s 1st X1

Played 7, won 2, lost 3, Cancelled 2 Captained by Temoor Alam, Bucks are a competitive unit in the ECB competition. Last year’s results were nonetheless disappointing. We failed to get a side out against Essex, the game being arranged for the last possible Sunday, when many of our players already had commitments. The last fixture against Surrey was cancelled when our opponents had the same issue. Only two matches were won on the field. Against Herts, Bucks scored 267-5 in only 31 overs in a reduced match and then bowled out our opponents for 207. Everyone in the top order scored quick runs before Steve King took four wickets in their reply. We also beat Middlesex by chasing down 229 at Eastcote, with Graham Fisher taking 4-35 and then scoring 65. Temoor, batting at No 8, made 42 not out to win the game. Defeats against Sussex, who easily chased a target of 255 and Kent, who passed our poor 189-9 and Berkshire, who bowled tightly to see us fall ten short of their 197, meant that we did not progress to the knock-out stages. Nonetheless, despite being without Simon Stanway for most of the season, we did compete. Availability is always the issue as most of the team have to work and rearranged fixtures due to the weather cause havoc. Thanks are due to Ian Pulsford for his sterling work around the matches and for his reliable batting at the top of the order.

OVER 50s 2nd X1

Availability was a problem, although we did get sides out in all matches thanks to Steve White’s contacts book. However, getting the same side out each time is a problem. It was a decent season. The first of the three wins came against Herts where good bowling followed by Steve White’s 91 not out and Paul Weston’s 67 allowed us to chase down 215, with Nigel Field’s 47 not out seeing us home. The bowlers excelled against Sussex, Rahul Mohindru taking 4-31, Paul Weston 3-26 and John Franks 3-26. Paul Weston (51) and new recruit Sajid Zaib (65*) saw us home. We finally beat Kent in this competition at Upchurch as Steve White (50), Paul Weston (67) and Sajid Zaib (63*) saw the side storm home. Things were not so good against Berkshire at Slough, where we lost by 70 runs, despite 94 from the consistent Paul Weston. Surrey scored 282 at Egham, despite superb figures of 9-2-25-5 from Rahul Mohindru, which was too much despite Graham Rance’s 68. The Suffolk match came down to their opener, who saw them home with 112 in a rain-interrupted match, even though Bucks manager Roger Garrini had to step in as umpire. The less said about the game against Middlesex the better. There were times in the past, when we rarely won a 2nd XI match, but the situation is drastically better now. We do compete and can win against anybody on our day. We are hoping for new recruits in 2020. Please phone a friend if they are 49 or over and let us know. 1st XI matches are on Wednesdays and the 2nd XI on Thursdays, unless weather intervenes.

69 O60s 1st XI v Oxon Standing: John Goodman (Scorer), Denzil Owen, Jon Swain, Peter Spinks, Dave Brooker, Jim Spooner, Chris Johnson Seated: Peter Langford, Keith Wallis, John Rolfe (Captain), Bob Fryer, Roger Garrini

O60s 3rd XI v Kent Standing: Jon Dobbs, Mark Rogers, Nick Zala, Kevin Woodhouse, John Goodman (Scorer), Terry Bentley, Jonathan Seabrook Seated: Graham Keens, John Moffit, Ron Hedley (Captain), Bob Floyd, David Lander 70 OVER 60s 1st X1

Played 8, Won 1, Tied 1, Lost 5, Cancelled 1 The first team had a difficult season finishing fifth out of fifth in their Division. Several of the games were very close, however, and other than the tie v Oxon, we suffered a last-ball loss to Wiltshire and a narrow defeat against Hants in a rain-adjusted match. Keith Wallis (4), John Rolfe (2) and Pete Langford (1) made half-centuries, while Bobby Fryer returned the season’s best figures of 4-20, Keith Wallis won the batting award and Jim Spooner the bowling award.

OVER 60s 2nd XI The team had a poor start to the season but won their last two matches to finish fourth out of five their division. Their best performance was a win over the then leaders Hampshire thanks to 100 from Kevin Woodhouse. Kevin then scored a century in the following match against Worcestershire which enabled him to pick up the batting award. Khalid Kasim collected the bowling award. Martin Sheffield took on the captaincy when John Pothecary was elevated to the 1st Xl and we thank them both.

OVER 60 3rd XI

The 3rd Xl won 5 of their 12 matches but due to the closeness of the division finished sixth out of seven. They only lost home and away to one county, Essex. They had a superb win over the reigning champions, Kent and also beat the newly-crowned champions Surrey. Steve Shore led the batting starting with a century in the first match v Bedfordshire and he received the batting award. Latif Khan was the third highest wicket- taker in the Over 60s 3rd Xls but the bowling award went to Jonathan Seabrook for consistently bowling maiden overs and putting pressure on the batting side. In the away defeat to Kent, he bowled eight maiden overs in his nine-over spell. Terry Bentley took over the captaincy when Ron Hedley was unwell and we thank him for his contribution.

BUCKS OVER 70s

This was our first season in Over 70s cricket and we teamed up with Berkshire to form a joint team, which will continue in 2020. Chris Lowe captained the side. I think the team found the opposition tougher than expected. They lost six and had two matches cancelled, finishing fifth out of five. The team had more success in the end-of-season Bowl competition, winning two losing one and having won lost to the weather. The bowling appeared to be the problem and the team are hoping for a couple of bowling additions in 2020. George Nelson won the batting award and Chris Lowe the bowling award. The team will be captained by a Berkshire player in 2020. We thank Chris for his efforts in getting the Over 70s up and running. * John Rolfe and John Pothecary have both stood down as Over 60s captains and our thanks go to both of them for all of their hard work. A presentation was made to them both at the seniors annual dinner Roger Garrini

For our Annual County Cricket Club Golf Day at the magnificent Buckinghamshire Golf Club at Denham, we were made most welcome by all the staff, and again everything was presented to us in pristine condition, you would have thought that you were at The Masters in Georgia. Numbers were slightly down due to untimely death of our President Stuart York and a clash with the local Rotary Club Golf Day, but we managed to attract some new faces and overall everyone had a lovely day. Again we were fortunate with some very pleasant autumn weather. 76 Membership Report 2020

Email Addresses: The Club sends out some information by email. It would be of great assistance to the Club if we had more addresses. Please send your email address to me at [email protected] so that I can add it to our database. All emails are sent “bcc” so that your privacy is secured. Addresses are used only to communicate Bucks CCC information and are not passed on to any other organisation.

I would remind you to check our website regularly during the summer

www.bucksccc.org.uk especially during the summer, where you will find information about the first team matches, the Academy, and the over 50s, 60s and 70s teams. Also other events such as the Annual Dinner and the Golf Day, as well as general information about the Club.

Membership Subscriptions: There will be a small increase of £5 in the annual subscription rate from 2021. Subscriptions have not been increased since 2013. Full membership will be £25.00 and couples £35.00. Kindly request your bank to change your standing order for January next year.

I write in the handbook each year that membership of the Club remains reasonably static. We would like to see it grow, so please speak to your friends and encourage them to join. Just twenty new members would greatly assist the Club. An application form is at the back of this booklet.

I look forward to seeing you at one of our matches during the season.

77 BuCks 100

As you will see from the accounts printed elsewhere in this handbook, BuCks 100 has been able to donate £2800.00 this year to the County, which is a significant sum. This has been through the generosity of many members and I would like to thank them for their continued support.

The numbers subscribed to each month is now 94. We are gradually clawing our way to the magic 100. This has enabled the Club to increase the monthly prize money. From last November the monthly prizes became, 1st £80.00, 2nd £50.00 and 3rd £20.00. The two major draws are made at the Annual Dinner and at the Golf Day and the prizes continue to be, 1st £250.00, 2nd £150.00, 3rd £100.00 and 4th £50.00.

Each month the winners’ names are published on the website, where you will also find an application form to join the scheme. There is also a form at the back of this handbook, which when completed should be sent to me. I do hope that you will support this very important part of the Club’s annual fundraising, and help us reach that magic 100.

TREASURER'S REPORT ON THE ACCOUNTS OF BUCKINGHAMSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET CLUB

Financial Review

Neil Relph, the elected Treasurer of the Club discovered at the beginning of 2019 that he had a serious, life threatening health issue and asked the Committee for leave of absence whilst he addressed this problem. I am delighted to report that he is making a slow but positive recovery. I was asked by the Chairman to step in and "hold the fort".

As can be seen from the accounts the Club has had an interesting year financially incurring a deficit of £5,009 (2018 a deficit of £4,504) which was in line with the budget set by the Committee.

The main changes for the year can be summarised as follows: £ Subscriptions 112 MCCA Distribution 835 Income from fundraising 4,291 Dividends 172 Other 29 ______Decrease in Income 5,439 Senior match costs 2,193 Academy match costs 1,338 Over 50/60s match costs (4) Cricket Gear 2,558 ______Increase in match costs (6,085) Decrease in Admin costs 141 ______Movement from 2018 to 2019 - Increased deficit for the year (505) For 2020 the Club has agreed on a budget that delivers a surplus. This is due to increased funding from the National Counties Cricket Association (NCCA), which has superseded the Minor Counties Cricket Association (MCCA). The Club also expects to make a surplus on the County match against Surrey in July 2020, but provision for this has not been included in the budget.

The value of the Clubs Investments increased by £5,392 (2018 decreased by £8,532). The committee continues to support all fund raising activities (see below).

Cricket The costs of cricket exceeded the ECB distribution by £10,431 (2018 £9,073). Tim Russell (Senior/Academy Manager), continues to be conscious of costs without compromising the quality of cricket. We remain thankful for the financial contributions made by various sponsors and advertisers to support the Club. The over 50/60s Cricket Managers, Roger Garrini and Ron Hedley, continue to control the costs of senior cricket which is appreciated by the Club as it goes towards ensuring the senior cricket costs of the Club result in a breakeven financial situation. We welcomed the over 70's for the first time for the 2019 season.

Sponsorship & Fundraising The fundraising team works hard to identify new sponsors. Our gratitude goes to our main sponsor John & David Turberville who continue to be wonderful supporters of the Club. A few more sponsors would make a significant difference in securing the Club's future.

Golf Day The event this year was enjoyed by those attending. Overall the Club made a surplus of £534 (2018 - £807).

TREASURER'S REPORT ON THE ACCOUNTS OF BUCKINGHAMSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET CLUB

Sportsman's Dinner The 2019 event was successful and the Club yielded a surplus of £955 (2018 deficit £178). The committee congratulates Bob Lane for his continuing efforts in dealing with this and the Golf Day.

Summer Lunch The summer lunch was held at High Wycombe Cricket Club during the championship's match, the Club made a profit of £564 (2018 - £400). This is organised by Bill Scholes and John Turberville and the Committee thank them for their continued efforts in dealing with this and other fundraising events.

Raffles These are held at our home matches, the surplus this year was £969 (2018 £757), thank you to all the members that assisted and supported the raffles, particular thanks go to Helen Beaumont.

Bucks 100 I am delighted to manage the Bucks 100 Club which contributed £2,800 (2018 - £2,600) to Club funds. We are hopeful that this will raise increased funds in the future as more members join. We require 5 more members to sign up to bring it to the magic 100. Please contribute if you can it is only £5 per month for a number. Please see my report at the end of the handbook.

Year Book The committee would like to thank both Frank Russell and Michael Knox for all of their hard work in co- ordinating the various aspects of the handbook. Advertising included in the year book contributed £3,750 for 2019 (2018 £4,600). We would encourage new advertisers so please let Frank/Mike know if you can suggest a contact.

Membership I continue to manage the membership database and keep track of arrears of subscriptions. Please see my report at the back of the handbook.

Finally I would like to thank Sue Holdship and Rouse Partners who have supported me and the Club during the year.

J, Phillips Acting Treasurer 20 January 2020

INDEPENDENT ACCOUNTANT'S REPORT TO THE MEMBERS

We report on the financial statements of Buckinghamshire County Cricket Club for the year ended 31 October 2019 which comprise the Income and Expenditure Account, Balance Sheet and the related notes. These financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention and the accounting policies set out therein.

Respective responsibilities of the club and the reporting accountants The Club's constitution requires the Treasurer to regulate the finances of the Club, in conjunction with the Finance & General Purposes Committee, and to be responsible for the preparation of the financial statements of the Club.

The Treasurer institutes the preparation of financial statements for each financial year, which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Club and its surplus or deficit for that year.

In preparing these financial statements the Treasurer is required to: - select suitable accounting policies and apply them consistently; - make judgments and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; - prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the Club will continue in operation.

As described above the Club is responsible for the preparation of the financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting standards.

Our responsibility is to carry out procedures designed to enable us to report our opinion.

Basis of opinion Our procedures consisted of comparing the financial statements with the books of account kept by the Club and making such limited enquiries of the officers of the Club as we considered necessary for the purpose of the report. These procedures provide only the assurance expressed in our opinion.

Opinion

In our opinion the Income and Expenditure Account for the year ended 31 October 2019 and the Balance Sheet as at 31 October 2019 are in agreement with the books of account kept by the Club.
