In the absence of any Second XI cricket and the One Day Cup competition, the Bob Willis Trophy reports have been expanded to include a write up for each day’s play as well as the full scorecards. Sadly all fixtures were played behind closed doors so hopefully these extended reports will enable readers to get the feeling of actually being at the game! In addition, the Somerset Women’s team reports plus the Boys and Girls Pathway write ups are included in the first half of the book as they now come under the remit of Somerset CCC rather than the Somerset Cricket Board.

  • Wisden Cricketers Almanack
01.21 118 3rd proof FIVE CRICKETERS OF THE YEAR The Five Cricketers of the Year represent a tradition that dates back in Wisden to 1889, making this the oldest individual award in cricket. The Five are picked by the editor, and the selection is based, primarily but not exclusively, on the players’ influence on the previous English season. No one can be chosen more than once. A list of past Cricketers of the Year appears on page 1508. sNB. Cross-ref Hashim Amla NEIL MANTHORP Hashim Amla enjoyed one of the most productive tours of England ever seen. In all three formats he was prolific, top-scoring in eight of his 11 international innings. His triple-century in the First Test at The Oval was as career-defining as it was nation-defining: he was the first South African to reach the landmark. It was an epic, and the fact that it laid the platform for a famous series win marked it out for eternal fame. By the time he added another century, in the Third Test at Lord’s, he had edged past even Jacques Kallis as the wicket England craved most. Amla produced yet another hundred in the one-day series, at Southampton, prompting coach Gary Kirsten to purr: “The pitch was extremely awkward, the bowling very good. To make 150 out of 287 rates it very highly, probably in the top three one-day innings for South Africa.” Accolades kept coming his way as the year progressed; by the end, he had scored 1,950 runs in all internationals, at an average of nearly 63.

  • Cricket Memorabilia Society Postal Auction Closing at Noon 10
CRICKET MEMORABILIA SOCIETY POSTAL AUCTION CLOSING AT NOON 10th JULY 2020 Conditions of Postal Sale The CMS reserves the right to refuse items which are damaged or unsuitable, or we have doubts about authenticity. Reserves can be placed on lots but must be agreed with the CMS. They should reflect realistic values/expectations and not be the “highest price” expected. The CMS will take 7% of the price realised, the vendor 93% which will normally be paid no later than 6 weeks after the auction. The CMS will undertake to advertise the memorabilia for auction on its website no later than 3 weeks prior to the closing date of the auction. Bids will only be accepted from CMS members. Postal bids must be in writing or e-mail by the closing date and time shown above. Generally, no item will be sold below 10% of the lower estimate without reference to the vendor.. Thus, an item with a £10-15 estimate can be sold for £9, but not £8, without approval. The incremental scale for the acceptance of bids is as follows: £2 increments up to £20, then £20/22/25/28/30 up to £50, then £5 increments to £100 and £10 increments above that. So, if there are two postal bids at £25 and £30, the item will go to the higher bidder at £28. Should there be two identical bids, the first received will win. Bids submitted between increments will be accepted, thus a £52 bid will not be rounded either up or down. Items will be sent to successful postal bidders the week after the auction and will be sent by the cheapest rate commensurate with the value and size of the item.

  • Biographies of Leading DHS Cricketers Jack Siedle
Biographies of leading DHS cricketers Jack Siedle Ivan Julian "Jack" Siedle (11 January 1903 – 24 August 1982) was a South African cricketer who played in 18 Tests from 1927–28 to 1935–36. Family background and personal life Born on 11 January 1903 in Berea, Durban, Natal, Siedle was the youngest son of Otto Siedle, who was born in Woolwich, London of southern German stock and who trained as a watchmaker, subsequently emigrating to Durban where he became prominent in the shipping business and public affairs. Otto Siedle's wife Mary became deputy mayor of Durban. Jack's older brother Karl Siedle played first-class cricket for Natal before the First World War, in which he was killed; his sister Perla Siedle Gibson became a well-known singer and a symbol of her country during the Second World War. Siedle married Lesley Maud McPherson on 14 March 1931, with his cricket colleague Eric Dalton as best man. Their son, John Siedle (1932–2008), played a few first-class cricket matches for Natal and Western Province in the mid- 1950s. Early cricket career A right-hander who played for Natal for 15 seasons from 1922–23 to 1936–37, Jack Siedle bowled occasionally and kept wicket just as infrequently, but his chief value to South Africa was as an opening batsman. He had had no great success when he was picked, in the 1923–24 season, for the match that was the trial for the 1924 tour to England and the 56 he scored in his second innings there was his highest score to that point, as well as the top score for his side, but he was not picked for the tour.

(not 7.30pm as printed in the Programme Card) Any resolutions and nominations for office on the Committee, duly proposed and seconded, should be received by the Hon. Secretary, David Fish, at 1 Abbot Close, Basingstoke. RG22 6LA by 19 FEBRUARY 2011. Wednesday 9 February 2011 – Meeting The Society is delighted to welcome DEREK BREWER, who has been Chief Executive of Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club since June 2005. During his tenure, Notts. have been very successful, winning the Championship in his inaugural months and in 2010. A feature of their cricket has been a judicious mixture of local players and reliable and committed overseas players. Our speaker was a very talented cricketer playing for Berkshire Under 13s, British Universities and Warwickshire 2nd XI. He has also contributed to the game at grass roots level by managing Grantham’s Under-13 team. In the business world, he was formerly Regional Director of Royal Bank of Scotland Commercial Banking in the East Midlands. Wednesday 12 January 2011 – Report Peter Parfitt provided his audience with a rare treat. In his vote of thanks Derek Coulson perceptively commented that, in little more than an hour and with no notes, he had taken his audience through cricket’s history over the past 50 years. Our speaker’s address was full of insight, wisdom and humour, and delivered by a man who clearly cherished cricket’s heritage, history and its traditional values.

The weather was Contact Alan Cohen scandal-centennial-symposium- good, and it was nice to do some [email protected] chicago-il sightseeing, and take in the Old Town, Balboa Park, and be by the water. It was nice to see old friends, September – date TBD Arizona Fall League Experience and make new ones. Hearts for all of this.
