The Hindu community can be really proud of completing one year of 15,500 square feet of Temple Complex on 4.8 acres of beautiful land. It is indeed rare for a small community to accomplish such a feat. The Hindu religion is not simply a religion of rituals, since it integrates culture and religion into our daily lives and our Temple Complex provides a focal point for the religious as well as the cul- tural activities of our community. We wish to thank all the members of our community and hope that we will flourish in our religious and cultural endeavors at the Temple for generations to come. We should all make use of our beloved Temple to unite our community. We have witnessed a prosperous first half of the year, 2016. We are blessed to have such a great team of our priests, the board members and volunteers assisting with day-to-day activities of the Temple. Hindu Temple has been serving the spiritual needs of the Hindu Community in and around Colorado for the past two decades. We strive to improve the devotee satisfaction and experience when they visit their temple. We welcome suggestions to improve the devotee ex- perience. Please feel free to contact us by email at [email protected] . Recently our temple completed a major milestone, the first anniversary in June 2016. With the help of hundreds of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers, our temple also hosted another major event, Jagannath Rath Yatra, July 10 th , 2016. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them all for their support and encouragement. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to all the devotees who have participated in all the activities. We have grown as a community in the last several years and more and more devotees visiting the temple every day from Colorado and other states. This also has increased the need for spiritual services. On behalf of HTCC committee, I kindly request all devotees to support the temple through their generous Donation in addition to their Devotion and Dedication. Let us develop a strong temple and community not only for the present generation but for our future generation as well. Our Temple has been growing with so many different religious, cultural activities that are tak- ing place on a regular basis. The Temple also hosts a variety of activities for all age groups. I encourage all of you to join us in the activities listed on our website. The Temple is soon adding new features to the Web page by setting up applications for: Booking Pujas on line. Ride sharing for devotees who need ride to and from temple. Active list of volunteers and recognition of their untiring efforts. As we all know that without a commitment of time and money, our Temple cannot continue to function properly. With this in mind, we have started pledge of $25 or more a month drive to meet our goal of $13,585.00 of mortgage per month on a balance of loan of $2.2 million .The pledges for next five years can then support the Temple financially for generations to come. In the meantime, we will also have to raise funds for the current operations of the temple for at least next five years. Devotees got to see Sri Sita-Ram Kalyanam for the first time at Hindu Temple which was performed on a grand scale. On April 29 th & 30 th Dr. Rangan Ramakrishnan Ji delivered pravachan’s at the temple during evening hours on Humanity and Hindu Culture and several devotees got to listen to his speeches. May, 2016: Adi sankaracharya Jayanthi celebrations on May 11 th were done at the temple with special Puja to Sankaracharya. Nrisimha Jayanthi pujas were done on 05-19-16 in the evening hours and devotees got to take blessings from Lord Nrisimha. June, 2016: Graduation Puja was performed on June 5 th at the temple. Several young kids attended to this event and got to receive Graduation Certificates from Achrya ji after doing the Saraswati Mata puja. On June12th, Temple 1 st Anniversary event was held and on this day several devotees got to see 108 Sankhu Abhishekam puja which was held first time in US and that too at Hindu tem- ple in Denver. Congressman Mike Coffman visited the temple as special guest for 1 st Anniver- sary event and participated in 108 Sankhu Abhishekam event. In the evening during Cultural events time Didi Gopeshwari Devi of New Zealand visited the temple and gave pravachan to devotees. July, 2016: Lord Jagannath Ji Rath Yatra was celebrated on July 10 th and 17th at the temple. For the first time in temple history a Rath Yatra event is being organized and a huge Rath is made in Denver with wonderful support from Mr. Amiya Mansingh and Raj Mansingh family. Rath Yatra event was planned on a grand scale with several pujas in the morning hours from 10 am to 12:30 pm and after lunch from 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm several Cultural events are planned at the temple. More than 1000 people attended the event. April to July, Regular Monthly events: On third Saturday of every month, regular monthly Jagannath Ji upacharas were conducted and were witnessed by several devotees. Cultural events were conducted after upacharas, bhajans, followed by aarti and lunch. Samoohik Satyanarayan Puja’s was conducted at the temple on all poornima days every month which were conducted by Acharyaji. Every Monday of all weeks in the evenings, Rudra abhishekams took place at the temple. Volume 20 No.2 1 August 2016 Mandir Vani Page 4 Bhagavan Jagannath Ratha Yatra by Amiya Mansingh Rath Yatra, the ‘Festival of Chariots’ is celebrated every year at Shri Jagannathji temple in Puri, India. Puri is one of the Char Dhams (literally: 'the four abodes/seats' of pilgrimage sites in In- dia that are widely revered by Hindus). Rath Yatra is celebrated on the second (dwitiya) day of shukla pakshya of the month of Ashadh. The presiding deities of the Jagannath Temple, Puri's main temple, Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra, with the celestial wheel (Sudarshana Chakra) are carried from the grand temple in a ceremonial procession to their chariots. The huge and decorated chariots are drawn by multitude of devotees on the grand ave- nue to the Gundicha Temple.

Kalyani University. ABSTRACT: To the Hindus the whole world is sacred as it is believed to spring from the very body of God. Hindus call these sacred spaces to be “tirthas” which is the doorway between heaven and earth. These tirthas(sacred spaces) highlights the great act of gods and goddesses as well as encompasses the mythic events surrounding them. It signifies a living sacred geographical space, a place where everything is blessed pure and auspicious. One of such sacred crossings is Shrikshetra Purosottam Shetra or Puri in Orissa.(one of the four abodes of lord Vishnu in the east). This avenue collects a vast array of numerous mythic events related to Lord Jagannatha, which over the centuries attracted numerous pilgrims from different corners of the world and stand in a place empowered by the whole of India’s sacred geography. This sacred tirtha created a sacred ceremonial/circumbulatory path with the main temple in the core and the secondary shrines on the periphery. The mythical/ritual traditions are explained by redefining separate ritual (sacred) spaces.     Photo by Bhakta Charles By Madhavananda Das Part one: THE OPULENT ANSWER Many devotees ask how we are to understand the Ulṭā, or Bahudhā — return Ratha-yātrā in Jagannath Puri? If (as Gaudiya Vaishnavas state) we consider the Guṇḍicā-yatra, or Ratha-yātrā to respresent the ecstatic emotions of the residents of Vrindavan taking Krishna home from Kuruksetra. How do we then understand the return Ratha-yātrā? Is it a festival celebrating taking Krishna away from Vrindavan? There are two sides, two answers, that can be offered to this question. To understand them, one first needs to consider something about the nature of Sri Jagannath Puri Dham. In his book, The Embankment of Separation (chapter 7), Srila Prabhupada’s Orissan disciple, Sri Srimad Gour Govinda Maharaja describes Lord Jagannath and Puri as: aiśvarya-mādhurya yugala-milana — “The combination of both opulence and sweetness.” This point is substantiated by Srila Sanatan Goswami who writes in his Bṛhad-Bhāgavatāmṛta (2.5.212): śrī-kṛṣṇa-devasya sadā priyaṁ tat kṣetraṁ yathā śrī-mathurā tathaiva tat-pāramaiśvarya-bhara-prakāśa lokānusāri-vyavahāra-ramyam “Just as Mathura-Vrindavan is eternally dear to Sri Krishna, so too is his abode of Purushottam Kshetra Jagannath Puri. There in Puri, Krishna displays supreme opulence and while at the same time presents pastimes that are full of sweetness.” Understanding Return Ratha-yatra Page — 2 This may strike the learned readers as confusing, for in terms of siddhānta, there is a vast difference between the qualities of aiśvarya, opulence; and mādhurya, sweetness.     Preface Pilgrimage places like Varanasi, Prayag, Haridwar and Vrindavan have always got prominent place in any pilgrimage of the devotees and its importance is well known. Many mythological stories are associated to these places. Though Orissa had many temples, historical places and natural scenic beauty spot, but it did not get so much prominence. This may be due to the lack of connectivity. Buddhism and Jainism flourished there followed by Shaivaism and Vainavism. After reading the lives of Sri Chaitanya, Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother and direct disciples we come to know the importance and spiritual significance of these places. Holy Mother and many disciples of Sri Ramakrishna had great time in Orissa. Many are blessed here by the vision of Lord Jagannath or the Master. The lives of these great souls had shown us a way to visit these places with spiritual consciousness and devotion. Unless we read the life of Sri Chaitanya we will not understand the life of Sri Ramakrishna properly. Similarly unless we study the chapter in the lives of these great souls in Orissa we will not be able to understand and appreciate the significance of these places. If we go on pilgrimage to Orissa with same spirit and devotion as shown by these great souls, we are sure to be benefited spiritually. This collection will put the light on the Orissa chapter in the lives of these great souls and will inspire the devotees to read more about their lives in details. This will also help the devotees to go to pilgrimage in Orissa and strengthen their devotion.

    The Deities of New Vrindaban Aaron Boyd, Maggie Dorsten, Lauren Spartano, and Stephanie Villaire 1 Deity Worship in the Hare Krishna Faith Hare Krishna devotees make the distinction that they perform Deity worship and not idol worship. Madhudvisa dasa, a member of the New Vrindaban community, explains, “It is Krishna on the altar, not a stone statue or an idol. But unless our eyes are purified we can’t see Krishna, we think he is a statue…but he is Krishna. We worship Krishna, not a ‘form of Krishna’ or a ‘statue of Krishna’.” In other words, Krishna is so spiritual that He cannot be seen with the senses. Therefore, Krishna agrees to appear in the form of a Deity so that devotees can worship and make offerings to Him. More specifically, each day, the devotees cook seven meals for Krishna, bathe and dress Him, and chant and sing songs for Him. Deity Construction No hard and fast rules exist to govern the type of material from which the Deities must be constructed. A Deity (also known as a “murti”) can be made out of any type of material because devotees believe that Krishna can appear in any form. According to Madhudvisa dasa, “The Deity is made by a devotee, but the devotee doesn’t try to ‘make’ Krishna. He prays for Krishna to appear in the form of the Deity.” Installing Deities The question of whether or not to open a Hare Krishna center must be considered carefully before actions are taken. Once a Hare Krishna temple is installed, it is impossible to un-install the Deities within it.
