2018 APOSTOLIC PRAISE CHORUSBOOK The 2018 Apostolic Praise© Chorusbook combines a unique compilation of 130 choruses, written chiefly for those who have gone through the Apostolic Praise© series who wish to enlarge their repertoire of songs. It contains a wide variety of songs, from old standards such as “Wonderful Peace” to Gospel choruses such as “Saved” “Power” and “Breakthrough” to more contemporary songs such as “Jesus Messiah.” However, what makes this chorusbook different is the fact that the songs are not written with just the basic, easy, boring chords, as most lead sheets are. Instead, the songs have been totally rewritten with advanced, fullsounding chords, giving the musician that plays them a very professional sound. When the musician plays “O I Want To See Him” the Apostolic Praise© way, it won’t be with just the simple IIVV chords. Instead, it is going to have a variety of complex, beautifulsounding chords that will make the song sound more modern. Also included are some resources on how to transpose songs to different keys, as well as an explanation page for some of the unique symbols that this chorusbook uses. Richard W. (HOUGH constituted so recently as 21 st February, 1912, the Glasgow http://library.oxfordjournals.org/ 1 Bibliographical Society found itself (strong enough before the end of that year to organise an exhibition illustra- tive of the life and work of the brothers Foulis, the venture being suggested by the fa<5l that 23rd November, 1912, was the bicentenary of the birth of Andrew, the junior member of the firm. The exhibition was intended as the Society's at University of California, San Fransisco on March 16, 2015 tribute to two eminent sons of Glasgow who have been strangely neglected, and was made the occasion of an attempt to bring together material, manu- script and printed, that would ultimately be used in compiling an adequate biography of the brothers and a complete bibliography or their press. The authorities of the University of Glasgow readily granted the necessary accommodation, and on 12th April, before a Large gathering, the exhibi- tion was opened with an address on the Foulises by the President of the Society, Mr. David Murray, LL.D.1 That the exhibition should have been held in the University was appropriate on various grounds. 1 The address, illustrated and much extended, has been issued in Yolume form by Messrs. 1 THE COLLECTED POEMS OF HENRIK IBSEN Translated by John Northam 2 PREFACE With the exception of a relatively small number of pieces, Ibsen’s copious output as a poet has been little regarded, even in Norway. The English-reading public has been denied access to the whole corpus. That is regrettable, because in it can be traced interesting developments, in style, material and ideas related to the later prose works, and there are several poems, witty, moving, thought provoking, that are attractive in their own right. The earliest poems, written in Grimstad, where Ibsen worked as an assistant to the local apothecary, are what one would expect of a novice. Resignation, Doubt and Hope, Moonlight Voyage on the Sea are, as their titles suggest, exercises in the conventional, introverted melancholy of the unrecognised young poet. Moonlight Mood, To the Star express a yearning for the typically ethereal, unattainable beloved. In The Giant Oak and To Hungary Ibsen exhorts Norway and Hungary to resist the actual and immediate threat of Prussian aggression, but does so in the entirely conventional imagery of the heroic Viking past. From early on, however, signs begin to appear of a more personal and immediate engagement with real life. There is, for instance, a telling juxtaposition of two poems, each of them inspired by a female visitation. It is Over is undeviatingly an exercise in romantic glamour: the poet, wandering by moonlight mid the ruins of a great palace, is visited by the wraith of the noble lady once its occupant; whereupon the ruins are restored to their old splendour. -

Irish Georgian Society, City Assembly House, 58 South William Street, Dublin 2. www.igs.ie / 01 6798675 /[email protected] INTRODUCTION The period between 1750 and 1837 saw a striking increase in the introduction of new materials, new manufacturing processes and new products. ‘Novelty’ was at a premium: touted in newspaper advertisements, puffed in trade catalogues and pattern books, and encouraged by energetic individuals and learned groups. These initiatives were driven by simple curiosity, focused experimentation, patriotic and humanitarian ideals, and the quest for profit. Homes, small workshops and large manufactories all felt the impact of these ‘polite and commercial’ impulses and the resulting artefacts; they spread beyond the peerage and landed elite through the professional and middling sorts. -

As their Author considered very few of them in a finished state, the measure, in some instances, may be found unequal. Where this defect could be remedied without altering the sentiment, it has been done ; but when such alterations would have affected the sense, as well as the sound of the verses, they have not been attempted. -

Call for Papers 52nd ASECS Annual Meeting Baltimore MD March 31 – April 2, 2022 Session Program Guidelines Abstracts or proposals should be sent directly to session organizers no later than September 17, 2021. Session organizers are reminded that all submissions received up to that deadline MUST be considered. Completed panels will be submitted using an online form; a link to this form will be sent to session organizers in mid-September. In the meantime, contact the ASECS Business Office with any questions – [email protected]. All breakout rooms at the Annual Meeting will be equipped with a screen, projector, and wifi. Additional room configuration or technology requests must be submitted by the session organizer on the online form. Session organizers will be required to confirm that all equipment requests are essential to the purpose of the session. Equipment requests or changes made after September 30, 2021 may not be accommodated. It may not be possible to fulfill all special requests. The Society’s rules permit members to present only one paper at the meeting. Members may, in addition to presenting a paper, serve as a session chair, a respondent, a workshop facilitator, or a roundtable, seminar, or workshop participant, but they may not present a paper at sessions they chair. No member may appear more than twice in the program (excluding sessions sponsored by ASECS). No individual may submit paper proposals to more than two panels. Since you can present only one paper at the meeting itself, you must notify both panel chairs if you are submitting two proposals for papers, whether or not the proposals concern the same topic.
