Valley Stream Again Named a “Tree City” Thanks to Vigorous & Innovative Tree Policies In Valley Stream we love our trees! Residents traveling through our village may have noticed that dead, diseased and dangerous trees were removed along the perimeter of Hendrickson Park’s pool parking lot. The Village has teamed up with the tree experts at the Cornell Cooperative Extension to replace those trees with a variety of specimens best suited for that location. The large boulders recently removed from Mill Pond have been re-purposed to protect the delicate new plantings, with the result looking great for the upcoming blooming season! SAVE THE DATE FOR VALLEY STREAM’S 2021 ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION Join the Valley Stream Beautification Committee for a Fun & Informative Program at beautiful Hendrickson Park Saturday, April 24th at 10:00 a.m. Hendrickson Park Pool Parking Lot • Listen to an insightful lecture on the re-forestation program • Learn about tree mapping and tree inventory activities underway at Hendrickson Park • Seeds and supplies give-away (while supplies last) • Participate in Recycling Activities for adults and children • Surprises and fun activities for all to enjoy! Spring and Summer Activities on the Way! Christmas Trees Live On! Valley Stream’s discarded Christmas Trees found new purpose when our village crews ground them into natural mulch that was made available to our residents for use on their own property. On street dining will return in May 2021. By not paying carting fees to have the trees removed, and using the mulch to fortify Valley Stream’s own public lands, taxpayer dollars were saved and our environment respected and protected! We’re in the Movies… and on TV! Valley Stream has caught the attention of the entertainment world, and the past few months have seen a flurry of filming activity around our village. On any given day the stars aligned to treat our residents to the behind the scenes action that takes place to pull together a top caliber television, or streaming service production. Some lucky neighbors got the chance to greet Valley Stream native Ed Burns in person as he created the throw-back series “Bridge and Tunnel,” while others saw actors and crew work their magic for “Bull,” “City On A Hill” and a small, independent courtroom drama. Covid protocols were always in place, and all the commotion gave a needed boost to those who enjoyed the shows!
