2020 Annual Catholic Appeal Come, follow me...and heal our world

Please spend some time this week reflecting on the Annual Catholic Appeal brochure that you received with your bulletin. The Annual Catholic Appeal is much different than a one-time special collection. It is a pledged campaign commitment where you can make a gift payable in installments. A pledge is a promise to make a gift over a span of time.

Each pledge makes a difference because all parishes participate in the campaign and the gifts of many enable our archdiocese to deliver needed ministries and services to answer ’ call to “Come, follow me...and heal the world.”

Once we reach our parish goal of $68,000 in paid pledges, any additional funds come back to our parish to help fund our needs.

If you received your pledge form in the mail, please complete it and mail it back or bring it to next weekend. For those of you who did not receive a mailing or have not had time to respond, we will conduct our in-pew pledge process at all Masses next weekend.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Across these past years, the Archdiocese of Chicago has engaged the process of Renew My Church to ensure a stronger future for our local Church. In the coming year, with God’s help, that process will continue. The 2020 Annual Catholic Appeal is tied closely to the journey of renewal. This year, the Appeal calls us to share in Jesus’ mission to bring healing and transformation to our fragile and wounded world.

By supporting the Appeal, you join hands with other Catholics in the archdiocese and reach out with healing to parishes and Catholic schools in need, religious education programs, ministry formation, and initiatives to address violence and to foster justice, peace, and respect for life. Our helping hands through the Appeal also reach out on a global scale to support Catholic Relief Services.

God bless you for joining this important effort. And may God keep you and all your oved ones in his abiding care.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Cardinal Blasé Cupich Archbishop of Chicago

Focusing on Preschool

Preschool has had a fun and busy Fall making new friends, learning classroom routines and learning about our Friends, Families, Feelings, Five Senses, Community Helpers, Thanksgiving, and Christmas in conjunction with learning our alphabet and colors. We enjoyed a visit from parents who are firefighters and police officers and visited Kroll’s Farm with our families during our Fall family field trip. Advent was a time of doing Kind things at home to help prepare our hearts for Jesus and filling Baby Jesus’ manger with all of our kind deeds in preparation for his Christmas Birthday party! Our families were able to enjoy some Christmas singing from each of the classes.

This winter we have been learning all about the season of winter, how snow and ice are made, cold weather animals and our alphabet and shapes. We made name snowmen, hibernation caves and continued our group activities and journaling in the PreK-4 classrooms – we even wore our pajamas and made pancakes for Letter P week! Our winter continues with our Dinosaur unit, rhyming and learning about Authors and Illustrators. Our PreK-4 classes continue to enjoy monthly classes with our Music in the Box program while learning about working as a team with activities such as name building and marble runs during our monthly PreK-4 STEM class. During our daily religion time we continue learning about the weekly through our SEEDs religious curriculum, building our social- emotional learning through our 2nd Step program and learning about Creation during the winter months.

Our Preschool Mommy and Me 2yr. old program completed its’ Fall term while having so much fun learning and playing alongside their care-givers and peers. They enjoy weekly music, story time, and group projects with plenty of playtime getting to know their new friends. Our winter session fun begins again in February to enjoy winter activities and move into learning about Spring as we move through our 10-week session.

Preschool is a fun place to spend time building our foundation for future learning – we play, learn and grow!

Mark 8: 11-13 Tuesday JAS 1: 12-18 Shedding a Little Light Psalms 94: 12-15, 18-19 “Some days the world is too loud for a quiet soul”, J. Rose Mark 8: 14-21 Wednesday “The voices of the world are loud and sparse, but the voice of God is a constant whisper.”, JAS 1: 19-27 Benjamin J. Elger Psalms 15: 2-5 The last couple of weeks I talked about how we do not Mark 8: 22-26 see the light of Christ due to all the electronic light Thursday around us. We do not shine, because we look but do JAS 2: 109 not see. But our eyes are not the only senses to be Psalms 34: 2-7 bombarded by the world, so too is our hearing! Mark 8: 27-33

Indeed, the world is loud! TV, radio, phones, pads, Friday traffic! We have learned to block out the noise, to JAS 2: 14-24, 26 ignore what is making sound around us, but have we Psalms 112: 1-6 shut out the voice of God as well? Have we become so numb to all the noise that we Mark 8: 34—9: 1 hear, but no longer listen? It is important to take the time to quiet the soul and listen Saturday not only with your ears but also with your heart. We need to shut out the world so 1 PT 5: 1-4 that we can sit with eyes, ears and heart open to God. Psalms 23: 3-6 Matthew 16: 13-19 Everyday, take the time to be still and listen to the voice of God. Don’t talk. Just listen. Sunday Don’t ask. Just receive. And, every once in a while, take more than a moment, more LV 19: 1-2, 17-18 than a prayer time. Spend time away with God on a retreat. Make time for a 2, 3 or 4 Psalms 103: 1-4, 8, 10, 12-13 day retreat. Yes, I know you are busy, but this time away is healing and refreshing. 1 COR 3: 16-23 When you come back, you will be more in tune with your purpose. Your eyes and ears Matthew 5: 38-48 will be able to truly see and truly listen. It is worth the effort to get away from the world for a time. Dine and Share Please pray for your brothers and sisters who have made the time to do just that this Enjoy a wonderful Butter weekend. The Light of the World Retreat is going on right now. You may not have Burger or yummy custard been able to attend this time, but you can pray for those who have.
