Credenhill Anti-social behaviour in and around the village of Credenhill. Report received on evenings of 23rd and 28th Jan. Up to 12 youths of various ages causing alarm and distress to residents by ringing doorbells, banging on windows and jumping in and out of hedges. On the 24th Jan a group of youths have also been sited around Court Farm derelict building location.

16th Jan – Suspicious activity and criminal damage caused to a motorhome stored in field off Station Road. Offender(s) have approached the motorhome and used a tool, (likely a crowbar) in order to force out the lock to the garage door of the vehicle. This is the third report received between Oct 2016 and 16th Jan 2017 where caravans have been tampered with and damaged.

PARKING CONCERNS

Following on to the article published i the Credenhill Community News Issue 94 December/January 2016/17 regarding parking problems on the state leading from dovecote Lane submitted by estate resident.

This is in response to the parking problems in Centurion way which is not a through road and is very narrow All of the properties when built from the year 2000 were allotted parking driveways. Complaints have been reported by estate residents to the Police Safer Neighbourhood Team on many occasions during the last 18 months about vehicles park- ing on pavements which is an offence, worst offenders being Transit Vans, During 2016 the PSN Team sent our Ad- vice Notice to all residents of Centurion Way with reference to the situation (Se notice attached). This has definitely been ignored by Transit Van owners except those who park their Vans at night on the wider roads opposite the traced areas of the estate. It would b interesting to know if any fixed penalty notices have been issued to offenders! There is no reason why Van owners do not park on their own driveways and if there is another vehicle associated with the property it can be parked on a the road which will not be as dangerous.

Hereford Council were informed of this situation ad replied it was a Police matter. This must be questionable? Pur- chasers of Properties on the estate should have signed the HM Land Registry Deed which supports concerns as fol- lows under PART 5 Restrictive covenants by the Buyer Item 9 and 10 refers:-

9. Not to park or suffer or permit to be parked any commercial vehicle, caravan or boat on the property between any building on the property and the Estate Road

10. Not to park on or obstruct the Estate Roads or Access way (if any).

On behalf of concerned estate residents.

WEST MERCIA POLICE - advice notice

Dear resident/driver/visitor of Centurion Way, Credenhill

Please be aware that the police Safer Neighbourhood Team have received complaints that vehicles are Parking on the pavement (offence). Van’s being the worst offenders

Everyone can avoid a fixed penalty notice! • Utilise your driveway instead of the road where possible • Park correctly, with all four wheels on the road - without causing dangerous inconvenience to others • Park with consideration to users of the pavement including wheelchairs, mobility scooters and double pushchairs to that everyone can get around safety.

We will be monitoring the situation and reporting any offences Thank you Rural North Safer Neighbourhood Team Waste services charges consultation

Friday 20 January to Friday 3 March 2017 In common with councils across the country, we are facing significant financial challenges as central government strives to balance its budget and we must continue to take the difficult decisions needed to enable us to continue to deliver important services to our residents whilst delivering savings of £87m between 2010 and 2020. Significant changes have already been made to our waste management services over the past few years, including the change to alternate weekly collection, which have resulted in savings in excess of £500,000. As part of our ongoing work to ensure that our resources are used in the most efficient way we have reviewed the charges made for waste management services. The council has agreed that when we set charges we should ensure, where possible, that the charge covers the cost of delivering the service.

We want to hear from: • All residents • Charities • Care, residential and nursing home providers • All household residents who have used or will use the large item collection service We're seeking your views on the proposed changes which cover the following service areas: • Tip permits for charitable organisations • Large item collections (furniture, domestic appliances etc) • Household bin swaps and replacements • Charging residential, care and nursing homes for waste and recycling collections

Take part in the consultation Complete the online questionnaire You can also complete a questionnaire at any of the council's customer service centres or download a questionnaire to print, complete and send to us at FREEPOST AWC. If you need help to understand this document, or would like it in another format or language, please email: recycling@.gov.uk

It had been a sad month with the death of Revd Clifford Knight a few weeks ago. His funeral will have taken place on Friday 17th February. Clifford was the much loved vicar of Credenhill before I came here and retired in the village before moving to Coldwells House when his health deteriorated. Then our centenarian, Hugh Gascoyne, died on 12th February. Hugh was well known around the vil- lage as he took a daily walk with family members usually down Mill Lane. He was a joyful and faith- ful Christian gentleman and I know he will leave a huge hole in the lives of his family and friends who have cared for him so well. His funeral will also have taken place on 25th February. Our thoughts and prayers are with both families.

Jesus summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow me. “For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it.” Mark 8:34-35

Lent starts at the beginning of March. I wonder whether you might have thought about giving some- thing up for Lent this year. If you have, the chances are you will pick one of the temptations that you come up against in daily life such as an addiction like smoking, coffee or alcohol. There are two main points about having Lent in the six weeks before Easter. The first is that Jesus was fasting in the desert for forty days and during this time he was preparing for the beginning of his ministry. The second thing is that Easter was traditionally the time for baptism and confirmation. In the early Church new Christians had six weeks serious study and preparation before their induction by baptism at Easter. This was a time of fasting, prayer and Bible study and is partly why Christians fast today (in some form) for six weeks ending at Easter as we focus on the suffering that Jesus endured when he went to the horrendous torture of death on the cross. For it was through the suffering of Christ that we inherit eternal life and complete access to God; without the cross there can be no eternal life; without death, no resurrection.

By the way, six weeks excludes Sundays, which are feast days and ensures the most pious have sustenance once a week and so mothers can eat the chocolate given them on Mothering Sunday!

With every Blessing, Rana

The Reverend Clifford Knight

It was a great sadness to have lost a good friend and spiritual companion in Clifford Knight who was a much loved vicar in our 6 parishes from October 1999 to October 2010. He was a quiet, gentle man of great strength of character who was totally dedicated to God and the people of these parishes. He was a deeply spiritual man but knew what it was to be human and so was very understanding. Many of us have lovely memories of him, especially his beautiful singing voice. I was reminded that he sang the Welsh song ‘Calon Lan’ (which is translated ‘a pure heart’) at a Welshman’s funeral in Bishop- stone Church and he sometimes sang to us as part of a sermon. During his time with us he celebrated 40 years in ministry having begun in his home town of Swansea, then served as an Air Force Chaplain after which he went to Lincoln Diocese before coming to us. Our group of parishes were Cliff’s his last appointment and we all benefited from his life and work experience. Sadly his last few years were a struggle as his health failed but even when he was seriously ill he always asked about the folks he cared for and greeted those looking after him by asking how they were. He died as he had lived, peacefully putting himself into God’s hands. He is badly missed by family and friends but it is good to know that his struggle is over. He died on the feast of Candlemas, when we celebrate the presentation of Christ in the Temple in Jerusalem. The collect for the day is very pertinent to Clifford as part of it reads: Almighty and ever-living God...... grant that we may be presented to you with pure and clean hearts, by your Son Jesus Christ our Lord.... I’m sure he has been!

I think we would all agree what an entertaining talk Jim Kenyon -The Mayor Of Hereford made, in- cluding his personal life and his duties as Mayor. He brought his chain of office and that of the Lady Mayoress and Pat Milan and Trevor Collins wore them for the evening. After we had a kind of Ques- tion Time which was very Informative, the Mayor then kindly invited us all to visit the Mayors Parlour which was a nice end to a great evening. Thanks to Trevor for inviting him.

Later I asked members if this year they wanted to know where they wanted to go for our trip or did they want a mystery trip, the result was all bar one person voted for a mystery trip.

BBC Hereford & Worcester “Munitions” Campaign

BBC Hereford and Worcester has launched a campaign to get official recognition for the forgotten people of the first and second world war – the munitions workers. They turned yellow, lost their teeth, suffered from lifelong illnesses and sometimes paid the ultimate price as they risked their lives to pro- tect Britain but they have still not been given official recognition. Thousands of people, mainly women, worked at the sites at Rotherwas in Hereford, Blackpole in Worcester and dozens around the county. They were known as the Canary Girls because the toxic chemicals turned their hair and skin yellow, caused their teeth to fall out and led to early deaths. It was their stories which inspired BBC Hereford and Worcester to start their campaign to gain official recognition for the sacrifices that they made. Together with help from Bill Wiggin MP and Jesse Norman MP, they’re hoping that the Gov- ernment will honour the munitions workers with a badge, similar to the ones which have been award- ed to the Land Army workers, the Bevin Boys who worked down the mines and the Women’s Timber Corps. The campaign was launched on BBC Hereford and Worcester in January and has already been featured on 14 other BBC radio stations and BBC Midlands Today.

Nicola Goodwin is producing the project and she’d love to hear from anybody who worked at the mu- nitions at Rotherwas, Blackpole or elsewhere in Britain. She’s also collecting people’s memories of their families and any photos that you may have of people who worked in the munitions.

Why Make a Will - Cohabitees

Making a will is particularly important for unmarried couples living together, to provide for each other after they are gone.

Contrary to popular belief, a ‘common law’ wife or husband does not have legal recognition.

Where a person has not made a Will, there are no provisions in the statutory rules (known as the Rules of Intes- tacy) for partners or cohabitees: the only recourse a surviving cohabitee would have, would be to make a claim against the deceased’s partner’s estate. This is a potentially stressful, costly, uncertain and lengthy process.

Having a professionally drafted Will can provide peace of mind that your loved ones are provided for after you are gone. Furthermore, there are structures that can be put in place in your Will to ensure you and your partner may benefit from your property during the survivor’s lifetime, whilst ensuring that the property ultimately passes to your children.

For those larger estates, inheritance tax can be a particular concern for the estates of unmarried couples. When a single person dies, their estate usually only benefits from their own nil rate inheritance tax band (allowance whereby no inheritance tax is paid, which is currently up to £325,000).

By contrast, for married couples, a person’s estate which passes to a spouse or civil partner is completely ex- empt from inheritance tax. Moreover, when the surviving spouse dies, the surviving spouse’s estate may be able to apply for any unused nil rate inheritance tax allowance from the estate of the first spouse which died. This can ultimately mean when the second spouse dies they can benefit from up to £650,000 free of inheritance tax.

Again, there are structures which can be included in a person’s will, which can assist with inheritance tax plan- ning for the unmarried couple.

If some of these concerns affect you or you would like to make or review your Will, please do not hesitate to con- tact Sally Smith on 01432 349 677 or email [email protected]

Thank you to everyone who supported MAGNA at the recent table sale, at the Community Centre, we didn't do very well, however we raised £38 and gave it to St. Michaels hospice. Star egg toast with avocado and tomatoes Ingredients 5 vine cherry tomatoes 2 tsp olive oil 1/2 avocado squeeze of lemon juice pinch of chilli flakes (optional) 1 egg 1 slice wholemeal bread 1 tsp butter

There's no better way to start Mother's Day than with a comforting breakfast in bed. This eggy breakfast takes just 15 minutes to make and is full of fresh and vibrant ingredients, from ruby red toma- toes to creamy avocado. This easy breakfast idea is sure to make your mum feel like a star. Preheat the oven to gas 6, 200°C, fan 180°C. Put the vine cherry tomatoes on a baking tray and drizzle with 1 tsp of oil; season. Bake for 10 minutes. Mash the avocado with the lemon juice and chilli flakes, if using. Season. Using an 8cm (3 1/2in) star cutter, stamp out a star-shape from the bread. Melt the butter and remaining oil in a non- stick frying pan set over a low-medium heat. Add the bread star and border and fry for 1 minute, until golden. Turn the pieces over and crack the egg into the star- shaped hole. Fry for 2-3 minutes until the egg is cooked, but the yolk is still soft. Transfer to a plate and top with the star. Serve with the tomatoes and avocado. Editor: Glenda Hind 01432 760067 [email protected]
