We would like to welcome you and your friends and family to the 51st Anniversary of the Oktoberfest Race Weekend. It is our goal to provide area race fans and racers one of the finest stock car racing events in the upper Midwest to be a part of. We hope that you go home with many memories that you can reflect on for years to come. Oktoberfest started out as a two day race event in the 1970s and 1980’s. In the early 1990’s, it grew to three days and just a few years later became the four day tradition that still exists today. Further, fans are invited to stay with us in the popular camper village for up to a week. This year, starting on Monday October 5th right through Monday, October 12th. Oktoberfest is a racing event and experience that you cannot capture on an electronic device. It is something much more. It IS a real-life experience, one that leaves fans looking forward to the next year. Every year. It’s the chance to see old friends in the campground. Or in the Grandstands. The racing.... yes, it’s exciting. And there’s a LOT of it going on. Are there lots of race cars in different styles, and classes? Sure, there are. But it is the camaraderie of the racing family that makes a big event like Oktoberfest so special.

New Dirt COVIDCOVID SeasonSeason ReviewReview Book Review December 2020 Page 2 Page 3 December 2020 Season Review The Midwest Publisher's Note RACING Connection Racing According to Plan month. Recently Jacy Norgaard penned an article on December 2020 his website that inspired me to copy his idea. Jacy’s column is featured on the pages immediately following. P.O. Box 22111 My year started out with my annual pilgrimage to St. Paul MN, 55122 Speedweeks in Florida. I was able to catch 11 events 651-451-4036 in the span of 10 days, with no rainouts in Florida this www.theracingconnection.com year. The cool part was seeing several of the Wiscon- sin drivers (Natalie Decker, Derek Kraus, Ty Majeski Publisher Dan Plan and Johnny Sauter) run on the big track for the Truck race. Contributing Writers Typically, after Speedweeks, things will kick off Dale P. Danielski at the beginning of April around here. This year was Dan Margetta not typical by any means. COVID hit, and the world Jacy Norgaard just about stopped. PJ "Jacklyn" Nuttleman In the middle of May, things changed across the Jason Searcy St. Croix and/or Mississippi River from my home. I Charlie Spry was able to start catching some weekly shows in the great state of Wisconsin at Cedar Lake Speedway, Photographers Vance Birno (612-308-3572) Dells Raceway Park, LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speed- Martin DeFries (651-346-1199) Dan Plan way and Tomah Sparta Speedway. Danielski Kris Peterson sanctioning bodies have areas of tracks running under Jacklyn Daniels-Nuttleman the same rules. But, if you venture too far away from Jason Searcy any track running under a specific sanction, you’ll Dean Reller need to make changes to run, or simply won’t have a Charlie Spry class available. The only exception around here is the Photographers dirt tracks sanctioned by NASCAR. They have Jim Ambruoso (815-623-3200) Dan Plan provisions that allow for various sanctioning bodies in Jeff Blaser (715-498-7544) the area to all run together on the same track. Martin DeFries (651-346-1199) TJ Harron (608-301-0993) Another reason that leads people to think the rules are Doug Hornickel (920-563-0993) One of the off-season discussion items that made me more consistent on dirt is due to the sheer number of Tom Loos (715-370-7895) laugh was a few asphalt racers stating how the rules tracks. Minnesota now has 1 asphalt track, but nearly Mark Melchiori (414-463-0131) on dirt are so much better than asphalt. I hate to crush 20 dirt tracks. Wisconsin asphalt fans have a little Bruce Nuttleman (612-860-6622) your dreams, but it really isn’t all sunshine and Vince Peterson (612-419-6372) better numbers with 10 paved tracks compared to unicorns on the dirt side of the world.

I wasn’t www.theracingconnection.com there, but social media and Race Monitor kept me abreast of what was going on. Early in the race, there Publisher was an incident on the track between Steve Wallace Dan Plan and Mason Mingus. Everyone had their own opinion of what happened, and most focused on placing the Contributing Writers blame on Wallace and the post-race altercation Dale P. Danielski between the two. I’m not convinced Steve was totally Jacklyn Daniels-Nuttleman at fault. As they say, it takes two to tango. Dean Reller Jason Searcy Charlie Spry From the video clips I saw, there’s no doubt Mingus and Wallace got into each other multiple times. I heard Photographers reports of Wallace “right-reared” Mingus to cause the Guy Adams (815-980-0354) Dan Plan wreck.

I really started going back to Elko on a regular basis after Charlie Spry With Elko Speedway celebrating its 50th racing season this graduating high school. Around the same, the NASCAR year, I figured I would utilize my space in this issue to list Northern Series started up. Those years (late 1980’s to early Photographers my top 10 memories at Elko. 1990’s) were some of the best. Seeing the local guys travel Jim Ambruoso (815-623-3200) to Wisconsin, Illinois and Iowa was definitely fun. Seeing Martin DeFries (651-346-1199) 1. I haven’t been around quite as long as the track has, but the guys from the other tracks come to Elko made for some TJ Harron (608-301-5258) I figured I’ve spent about 48 years at the track. Now I don’t interesting racing indeed.
