Rev. John I. Jenkins C.S.C., ’76, ’78 | President, University of Notre Dame

Father Jenkins earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in philosophy from the University in 1976 and 1978, respectively, and was ordained a priest of the Congregation of Holy Cross in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on campus in 1983. In 2005 he became the 17th president of the University and began a second five-year term in 2010. Father Jenkins has articulated a vision of Notre Dame as the Catholic research university for our time – an institution that engages in scholarship of the first rank while maintaining its distinctive Catholic character and long-time excellence in undergraduate education. His tenure has seen the creation of Innovation Park, the construction of the nanotechnology research center in the Stinson- Remick Hall of Engineering and the dedication of the Jordan Hall of Science. Also, Bloomberg Businessweek has ranked Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business as the top undergraduate business school in the country the last two years. Jack Nolan | Director of Media Productions University of Notre Dame

Jack Nolan is in his 32nd year of association with the Notre Dame Athletics department, and currently serves as Director of Media Productions for Fighting Irish Digital Media. In his present role, Nolan serves as the main talent for the video programming on the official Notre Dame athletics web site (www.UND.com) and coordinates the day-to-day operations of all of FIDM’s radio and TV programming. Nolan also handles the radio play-by-play for the Notre Dame men’s basketball team. The 2013-14 season marks Nolan’s 32nd year announcing Notre Dame basketball games on either radio or TV, making him one of the longest-tenured college basketball announcers in the country. Nolan earned a of academic honors on the way to graduating from the University of Missouri with a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1981. Nolan is a native of Winchester, Mass., and is married to Detroit native Rhonda Brown, with whom he co-anchored WNDU-TV’s NewsCenter 16 Sunday Morning between 1996 and 2002. The Nolans live in South Bend. Robin Weber ’76 | Former Notre Dame Football Player | recipient of The Catch

Their national title hopes flickering in the closing minutes of the 1973 Sugar Bowl,Alabama head coach Bear Bryant and his players were worried about Notre Dame , bruising fullback Wayne Bullock and All-American tight end Dave Casper. Desperate to get the ball back for one last chance to overcome Notre Dame’s 24-23 lead, Alabama had the Irish pinned, third-and-eight on the Notre Dame two-yard line with a little over two minutes left in the game. The Tide never imagined that Weber, used extensively as a blocker in double tight end alignments, would do anything but block. Robin Weber’s route was designed to free Casper open underneath. But Alabama blew the coverage, leaving Weber wide open. From the back of his end zone, Clements found Weber 37 yards down field in front of the Alabama bench. The Irish had the first down, the victory and Parseghian’s second national championship. eberW had made The Catch. Weber is CEO of Weber Commercial Real Estate Services and resides in Dallas.

Tim Brown ’88 | Former Notre Dame Football Player and 1987 Heisman Trophy Winner

The first wide receiver to be awarded the Heisman Trophy, Brown became the seventh Notre Dame player to be heralded as the most outstanding player in the nation in 1987. He set 19 school records during his Irish career. For his career, Brown averaged 116.8 all-purpose yards per game and totaled 22 touchdowns. He totaled a then-school record 2,493 receiving yards with 12 receiving TDs and averaged 18.2 yards per catch. Brown averaged 23.4 yards on 69 career kickoff returns with three returned for TDs and averaged 13.2 yards on 36 punt returns and three TDs. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2009. Selected in the first round (sixth overall) in the 1988 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Raiders, Brown played 16 seasons with the franchise, earning him the title “Mr. Raider.” A member of the NFL 1990s All-Decade team, he was named to nine Pro Bowls and hauled in an NFL record 75 receptions in 10 straight seasons. Brown serves as the national chairman and spokesperson for Athletes and Entertainers for Kids and 9-1-1 For Kids. Shamrock Shamrock SeriesTexas Each year, Brown hosts the Tim Brown Charity Golf Classic to benefit 9-1-1 For Kids, and the Mentor Mini Camp at the Raiders’ headquarters for 100 fatherless boys. 12 Jack Swarbrick ’76 | Vice President and Director of Athletics University of Notre Dame

John B. “Jack” Swarbrick Jr., a University of Notre Dame graduate now in his sixth year in 2013-14 as vice president and director of athletics at his alma mater, has attached his signature to a variety of new initiatives during his tenure: launching of Fighting Irish Digital Media, developing plans for expanding Notre Dame Stadium to make it a year-round asset for the University, creation of new community outreach and youth programming activities, and meeting the performance needs of Notre Dame student-athletes through establishment of a new sports performance division. In 2012-13 alone, Swarbrick played a major role in three significant announcements that positively impacted Notre Dame on the national collegiate scene: 1) Creation by the of the four-team to begin with the 2014 season, with Notre Dame maintaining viable access into that system, 2) membership for Notre Dame’s athletic teams (other than football and hockey) in the Atlantic Coast Conference beginning with the 2013- 14 athletic seasons. In football, Notre Dame will play five games per year against ACC opponents beginning in 2014 and also have full access to the league’s list of postseason bowl options. Notre Dame hockey now plays in Hockey East, and 3) an extension of the University’s relationship with NBC Sports through the 2025 football season. Swarbrick’s first five years combined featured a variety of on-and off-the-field Notre Dame athletics successes, including NCAA championships in Fencing and Women’s Soccer, and number-one rankings for Notre Dame (among Football Bowl Subdivision schools) in the six most recent Graduation Success Rate (GSR) surveys--in 2012 at 99 for all- student-athletes (including football number one at 97, in the fourth consecutive year Notre Dame stood atop that chart). Swarbrick and his wife, Kimberly, are the parents of four children: Kate, Connon, Cal, and Christopher.

Brian Kelly | Head Football Coach University of Notre Dame

Brian Kelly, a veteran of 22 seasons as a collegiate head coach – enters his fourth year as the 29th head football coach at the University of Notre Dame. Currently the fifth-winningest active coach in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, Kelly has guided the Irish to 28 wins over the last three seasons, which equals Dan Devine’s school record for victories over the first three years as a Notre Dame head coach. Kelly led Notre Dame Notre Dame to its first undefeated regular season in 24 years (1988), a spot in the BCS title game and highest national ranking (No. 4/3) to close a season since 1993 (No. 2/2). The only two-time winner of The Home Depot Coach of the Year Award (2009, 2012). Kelly swept just about every possible coach of the year award in 2012, earning the nod from the Associated Press, Walter Camp Football Foundation, Sporting News, Liberty Mutual and Coaches Association. Kelly guided Notre Dame to a number one ranking among all FBS programs in the most recent NCAA Graduation Success Rate figures released in October – as the Irish became the first team to be ranked number one in the football polls and also first in graduation rates and play for the BCS title. Kelly and his wife Paqui are parents of three children: Patrick, Grace and Kenzel. They play host to a series of events benefitting the Kelly Cares Foundation to support organizations, initiatives and programs that closely align with the goals and values of the Kelly family in three main areas: personal involvement, with emphasis on breast cancer research, prevention, education and awareness; education and institutional advancement; and community involvement in selected initiatives and projects.

Independent of the University Guide Information Activities and Weekend 17 Notre Dame Mass

Saint Patrick Cathedral 1206 Throckmorton St., Fort Worth, Texas 76102 • (817) 332-4915 The St. Patrick Cathedral complex, in the heart of the Fort Worth business district, consists of three buildings: the church, the rectory, and the St. Ignatius Academy building. St. Patrick Cathedral has the distinction of being among the oldest buildings in Fort Worth and is the city’s oldest continuously used church building. The parish began in 1876, when Bishop Claude M. Dubuis of Galveston assigned Father Thomas Loughrey to Fort Worth as its first resident priest. Within three months a small frame parish church had been erected and dedicated to the Polish Jesuit Saint Stanislaus Kostka. In 1884 Father Jean Marie Guyot replaced Father Loughrey as pastor, and by 1888 the cornerstone for a new church had been blessed and laid in place. The new church, to be located just a few feet north of St. Stanislaus, was renamed St. Patrick by vote of the congregation. The Gothic Revival structure, designed by architect J. J. Kane and constructed of native limestone, was dedicated July 10, 1892, by the first bishop of Dallas, Thomas F. Brennan. Father Guyot died in 1907; his body is interred in the basement crypt of the church. The old St. Stanislaus church was converted into a parish hall and day school. In about 1908 it was removed to make room for what is now the rectory.

The church attained the rank of co-cathedral on December 8, 1953, when the name of the Diocese of Dallas was changed to the Diocese of Dallas-Fort Worth. When the Diocese of Fort Worth was founded August 22, 1969, St. Patrick’s became the seat of the new diocese. The church was recorded as a Texas Historic Landmark in 1962, and in 1985 the cathedral complex was enrolled in the National Register of Historic Places. The Texas Historical Commission in 1990 approved a Texas historical marker for the site of St. Stanislaus Church.

n conjunction with the Notre Dame Club of Dallas, alumnus Scott Langlinais ’91 founded the Dallas Tax Assistance Program (TAP) in 1998. Modeled after the one-credit course managed by Professor Ken Milani serving the South Bend community, TAP comprises dozens of volunteers Iwho complete tax returns at no cost for low-income individuals and families. The goal of the program is to help serve the lowest income portions of the community. For members of this community, many of whom speak English as a second language, the alternatives are to either pay preparation fees for what are generally simple returns or to miss out on potential refunds by not filing at all.

Roughly 200 people per year, with an average income of around $24,000, visit one of multiple TAP sites for assistance from all around Dallas. Our most recent service sites are Bishop Dunne High School and Our Lady of Perpetual Help School. Holy Cross Church, St. Cecilia’s School, St. Augustine School, and Holy Family of Nazareth Church have also served as service sites in the past.

Now in its 16th year, TAP, a separate legal entity, has thrived because of volunteer support from the Notre Dame Club of Dallas and financial support from corporations across North Texas. More than a dozen volunteers have prepared taxes for the program for more than 10 consecutive years. Entities such as the Catholic Foundation, Wells Fargo Bank, and the American Airlines Credit Union have financially sponsored the program over the years, allowing TAP to buy computers and other equipment to better serve the community.

22 – Notre Dame Club of Dallas Program Spotlight – Scholarship Fund

“I would like to express my great thanks for the gift of the Notre Dame Club of Dallas Scholarship. Finding the funds to finance this wonderful education has been my primary concern since I was first accepted to this university. I greatly admire the ND Club of Dallas’ benevolence and I hope to one day follow your example by giving back to other students in need”

- Scholarship Recipient, Notre Dame Class of 2011

f all of the roles that the Notre Dame Club of Dallas plays, the role that we may be most proud of is helping local students overcome financial obstacles to attend Notre Dame. The Club typically awards between $65,000 and $70,000 annually to deserving students from Othe Dallas area with financial need. For some of these students, the assistance they receive from the Club is the difference between being able to attend Notre Dame and attend a different school.

Every student accepted to Notre Dame is bright and accomplished, so picking from among local students applying for funds is a difficult task. We have a dedicated team of club members that take on the task.

Because of the strong leadership of Club officers and directors, the Club’s scholarship fund will provide assistance for many years to come. Seeded with the proceeds from past Cotton Bowls, the principal continues to grow through funds raised at Club events like the annual Kickoff Party and this year’s Shamrock Series. Coupled with strong management from the University, the fund is approaching $1.5 million in value.

While the Club provides awards to meet much of the eligible demonstrated financial need of local students, our goal is to grow the program to award 100% of what is allowed by the University. We want every student from the Dallas area that is accepted to the University to have the opportunity to take part in the Notre Dame experience. They have played in a total of 8 bowl games in Texas (7 Cotton Bowls and 1 Sun bowl). Notre Dame has a 6-2 record in those bowl games, with the most recent being a 33-17 victory over Miami in the 2010 Sun Bowl. The Irish also played the first edition of the Shamrock Series in San Antonio, Texas in 2009 when threw for 296 yards and 2 touchdowns as his team beat the Washington State Wildcats 40-14.

In addition to playing neutral site games in Texas, Notre Dame has played several of the FBS football teams coming from the state of Texas. The Irish have a 29-7 overall record against opponents from Texas and have beaten them on average by over two touchdowns. The last time they played an opponent from Texas, however, was in 2001, when they lost to Texas A&M.

Notre Dame has an upcoming series scheduled with the University of Texas Longhorns, which will kickoff when Texas travels to South Bend on Sept. 5, 2015. Notre Dame is slated to head to Austin on Sept. 3, 2016, and again on Aug. 31, 2019. The Longhorns return to South Bend on Sept. 12, 2020. Having already played 10 games between 1913 and 1996, the matchups between two of the largest and most valuable programs in the country is sure to turn a lot of heads in what should be very exciting games. The University of Notre Dame's Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) is planning a cross-country celebration of Catholic schools that will mark ACE's 20 years of service to under-served children and to the Church's mission of educating hearts and minds.

In 1993, the Alliance for Catholic Education was co-founded by Rev. Timothy R. Scully, C.S.C, and Rev. Sean McGraw, C.S.C. The heart of the program sought to sustain and strengthen Catholic education in under-resourced schools.

To accomplish these goals, ACE launched the “Service through Teaching Program.” This program sent young teachers to serve in under-resource Catholic schools. ACE has commissioned over 1,200 teachers and has built a comprehensive approach to meet the needs of elementary and secondary Catholic schools across the United States.

The cross country celebration will highlight the contributions of Catholic Schools to education and society. An array of events are scheduled at Notre Dame and across the country to convene supporters of Catholic schools to pray together, to honor local leaders, and to celebrate the profound contributions of Catholic schools for the Church and the nation. To reflect ACE's work in scores of dioceses, a specially outfitted tour bus, provided by a generous benefactor, will bring a Notre Dame presence to cities big and small. This cross country celebration kicks off during the Shamrock Series in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas.

Each year current and former Notre Dame coaches and former student athletes hold events that raise millions of dollars for charity. When any of these events have underutilized capacity there are 3 distinct negative consequences:

1. The Charitable cause loses revenues that would go directly to their cause.

2. Potential participants don’t attend a great event simply because they were unaware of its existence.

3. Potential beneficiaries of the charitable cause cannot be accommodated. In cases where the cause is scholarship dollars, an empty chair replaces a qualified student.

A Notre Dame community solution is to use existing social media to raise visibility for OUR sports charitable efforts through a single presence designed to collect and disseminate information about events large and small nationwide. We should never allow our Notre Dame sports figures to have events under attended simply because the word was not spread widely.
