It is known as the Outstanding Young “Root Word[s] of the Week”. The ostensible arbitrariness of the initiative has left students curious, indifferent, or sometimes dubious. Nevertheless, approbating administrative figures offer research-backed certitude that there is, indeed, method to the madness. This suggests that possession is a cultural artefact, either in the strong sense of being nothing more than a cultural creation or in the weaker one of culture moulding and shaping universal psychological processes in socially relevant ways. My own approach to understanding possession lies very much within the framework of the weaker version. The hypothesis I will seek to develop is essentially that the phenomena of possession are best understood in terms of the psychological processes associated with the term ‘trance’. I use this term deliberately and in full awareness of the reservations about its usefulness expressed by some psychologists. Among hypnosis researchers there are three broad approaches to explaining the nature of trance. The first is that which emphasises socio-cognitive factors such as role play and imaginative involvement in suggested experiences. In short, this approach explains away any feature of trance which provides it with a distinctive character. This view would be compatible with what I have called the strong version of cultural artifactualism. Another approach emphasizes that trance is a genuine altered state of consciousness which differs from ordinary consciousness in a variety of ways, most notably in that reflexive, executive or ego consciousness – what many hypnotists call ‘the conscious mind’ – is dissociated from unconscious processes. The third approach is more diffuse, combining the first two explanations and, depending on the writer, perhaps adding a few other elements to produce a kind of multi-variable theory.

This study explores the rise of contemporary Australian horror production: emerging production and distribution models; the films produced; and the industrial, market and technological forces driving production. Australian horror production is a vibrant production sector comprising mainstream and underground spheres of production. Mainstream horror production is an independent, internationally oriented production sector on the margins of the Australian film industry producing titles such as Wolf Creek (2005) and Rogue (2007), while underground production is a fan-based, indie filmmaking subculture, producing credit-card films such as I know How Many Runs You Scored Last Summer (2006) and The Killbillies (2002). Overlap between these spheres of production, results in ‘high-end indie’ films such as Undead (2003) and Gabriel (2007) emerging from the underground but crossing over into the mainstream.

With the pandemic still trekking on, it’s important to keep yourself safe during the spooky season. Taking precautions, like washing your hands and wearing masks, will ensure you stay healthy and well. Many people are debating whether Halloween should be cancelled due to COVID-19. Corporations and businesses that rely on the holiday are hoping to keep the customs alive. Candy manufacturers, costume designers, and even the movie industry all look to Halloween as their big boom in business. The cancellation of Halloween will also impact the kids that see the day as a joy. In an interview with The New York Times, Dr. Gosh said, “I think completely taking away Halloween could be detrimental to some of the mental health issues that kids are facing right now.” Halloween is an outlet for kids to express their creativity and have some fun. This Halloween, the Centers for Disease Control recommend trick-or-treating be minimized and controlled. Wearing masks, gloves, and bringing hand sanitizer is the safest way to still go out, as well as staying six feet apart from other goers and setting candy bags outside to grab quickly.

  • During the Pandemic I've Maintained My Sanity by Completing Jigsaw
    1 During the pandemic I’ve maintained my sanity by completing jigsaw puzzles. However, they also came close to making me lose my sanity a time or two. The first one I completed was “The Day the Angels Cried.” I’ve looked for that puzzle for years and finally got it. It took me three months to put it together and at the end it was missing one piece! I wrote the company, but they didn’t have another copy of that puzzle. I was heartbroken. To make up for it they sent me the “Hometown Heroes” puzzle. It took me a couple of months to complete it. I framed it in an old barn wood frame and donated it to our local volunteer fire department for them to hang it in their firehouse or auction it off at their yearly fundraising event. Their choice. My bathroom is decorated New Orleans style, so my third puzzle was the “Bourbon Street” puzzle. It was amazingly easy! It only took me a month to complete it. I framed it in black and it’s now hanging in my bathroom. My current project is the cat puzzle. I couldn’t figure out what to work on next so I asked a dear friend if she would like a cat puzzle. The kids in her apartment complex call her “the crazy cat lady,” so I thought she might be interested, and she was. It’s been pretty difficult so far and will get much more difficult when I get to working on the black cat.

The archbishop contends that Blatty has committed a real travisty with the historical facts of the case of the exorcism.
