Admission Requirements for Senior College Program (e.g., minimum GPA, audition/portfolio): Application Procedures The academic year at Boricua is made up of three sessions, the Fall/Spring regular session of fifteen (15) weeks each and the summer session of eight (8) weeks. Students may begin their studies in September for the fall session and in January for the Spring session. The specific dates for each session are indicated in the Academic Calendar for the year. 1. Contact all high schools, colleges and/or other post-secondary institutions previously attended, and request that an Official Academic Transcript and Financial Aid Transcript be forwarded directly to the Admissions Department. 3. Submit two (2) Letters Recommendation. 4. Submit Immunization record. 5. Have an interview with an Admissions Counselor; receive financial aid information; from a financial aid counselor. (See also academic requirements for federal and state financial aid in the section on “Financial Aid”). 1 6. Complete a written diagnostic examination to guide the faculty in designing a suitable educational program. 7. Complete an individual or group oral interview conducted by an Admissions Committee of the faculty. The Admissions Committee makes the final decision regarding prospective student’s ability to function in the College’s programs. Decisions are based primarily on the Committee’s judgment regarding the candidate’s: 1. Academic competence and ability to devote full-time to college level studies. 2. Ability to integrate academic, employment, family and community responsibilities into a coherent program of educational development. 3. Maturity and discipline to assume progressively greater responsibilities for academic planning, development and evaluation. 4. Genuine interest in problems and needs of their community. 8. Following review of an applicant’s file, written notification of admissions is mailed to the applicant. Associate in Arts Degree from Bronx Community College. Bronx Community College graduates with the Associate in Applied Sciences Degree in Human Services will receive 60 credits toward the Bachelor of Science in Sociology at Boricua College. Total transfer credits granted toward the baccalaureate degree: 60 Total additional credits required at the senior college to complete baccalaureate degree: 72 C. Course-to-Course Equivalencies NOTE: Boricua College will only accept courses with a grade of “C” or better for transfer. Articulation Agreement Follow-Up Procedures 1. Procedures for reviewing, up-dating, modifying or terminating agreement: Bronx Community College Social Sciences Department Chair and the Boricua Human Services Department Chair, will review implementation of the agreement every five years to ensure that students are adequately informed of the program and to identify issues requiring attention. 2. Procedures for evaluating agreement, e.g., tracking the number of students who transfer under the articulation agreement and their success: After transfer into the Boricua major, the performance of Bronx Community College students will be tracked. Boricua will inform BCC about the academic progress of transfer students 3. Sending and receiving college procedures for publicizing agreement, e.g., college catalogs, transfer advisers, Websites, etc.: Notice of articulation will be placed in the respective catalogues, recruiting brochures, and websites, . Respective transfer and academic advisers will be informed and provided with copies of this agreement. Am I eligible to apply to an opportunity program? In order to apply for an opportunity program you must be BOTH academically AND financially eligible: Academic Eligibility: You must have a lower GPA and/or SAT score than the schools normally require to be admitted. Check out the school requirements on their website or on handouts in the college office. You must fall within BOTH the SAT and GPA range in order to be academically eligible. Financial Eligibility: To be considered financially eligible, your parent/guardians income must be at or less than the amounts shown below based on how many people are living in your household. Do NOT count the income of anyone else living in your household who may be working such as yourself, siblings, grandparents etc. See your counselor for help!
