With music filling the streets and art spreading across the many neighborhoods, a weekend in Austin will be a new adventure in the Lone Star State. Austin provides ample opportunity to explore all aspects of fun through outdoor recreation, shopping, food and music. Take an afternoon to hit the trails around Austin through the 10-mile Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike trail, more commonly known as “The Trail”, or even wander through Austin’s very own ‘Cathedral of Junk’ in the Bouldin Creek neighborhood. You can also visit one of the 200 parks in Austin to see green grass and blue skies such as the Ziller Park located in the city center. The city is also known for diners that hold onto the perfection of combining brunch with bars. Many of these cowboy cafes include omelets, mimosas, or even corndogs to fill your palate on late mornings. I intend to produce the Summer issue quite soon. The cover photo for this edition sees the late Bill Pegum’s beloved Model ‘A’ Ford. This car belonged to his mother from new and the family name for it was ‘Bluebird’. Bill left this car and his home to the IVVCC in his will. He was a true enthusiast who actively encouraged others to get involved and indeed sourced old motors whilst on his travels around the country passing on their locations to eager enthusiasts. FRONT COVER: Bill’s car must be unique in that it belonged to one family from new. It was a The late Bill Pegum’s 1929 Ford Model ‘A’ regular attender at events in the past and we hope it will be again. (Bluebird) enjoying a day out.     2009-10 VMI BASKETBALL KEYDET BASKETBALL GAME NOTES KEYDET BASKETBALL GAME NOTES KEYDET BASKETBALL GAME NOTES VMI Wraps Up Non-Conference Play Against Southern Virginia Tuesday Keydets Are 21-2 in Home Non-Conference Games Over the Past Three-Plus Seasons VMI Last Time Out: VMI junior guard Austin Kenon converted six straight free throws in the final 14.1 seconds of regulation to hold off High Point in a 94-91 Keydet win before a sellout crowd at the Millis Center Saturday night. VMI won its first road game of 2009-10 and handed High Point its first home loss of the season. Kenon finished the night a perfect eight-for-eight from the stripe and scored 20 points. Southern Virginia (12-44) The Keydets were led in scoring by freshman forward Stan Okoye, who produced his fourth straight 20-point, 10- vs. VMI (6-112) rebound effort with career-highs of 24 points and 14 rebounds. Okoye tallied 20 of his points in the first half. Tuesday, Jan. 26; 7 p.m. VMI also got a double-double effort from sophomore guard/forward Ron Burks who scored 19 points and collect- ed 12 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the year. Sophomore guard Keith Gabriel and senior guard Adam Cameron Hall Lonon scored 14 and 10 points, respectively. Lexington, Va. No formal record of the Club ’s history or its activities existed before this task was under taken. I would particularly like to acknowledge the involvement of the following: Mike & Hilary Stratton , who were the driving force behind the w hole project and have spent countless hours in research and communication with past members , far and wide, a s well as many long journeys from their home in Devon to meet with the rest of us in the Midlands. The other members of the organising committee for the fiftieth anniversary celebrations for their hospitality at meetings, contribution of ideas, research fo r memorabilia , general good humour and enthusiasm that this milestone should be fittingly celebrated (in alphabetical order): Ray Barlow, Susan Butcher, Mike Harris, Nick Jones & Graham Towns hend. This publication has only been made possible by people tur ning out cupboards, garages and lofts to unearth long forgotten gems regarding the Club and its history.
