Carmon, Carmon & Carmon, NY, USA Features 7 Covers all aspects of recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments and arbitration awards in Israel 7 Emphasis on comparative law of other major countries 7 Pracitical guide for judges, lawyers, and the business community A judgment in a civil matter rendered in a foreign country is not automatically recognized in Israel. Before a judgment will be recognized or enforced, it must first undergo a domestic integration process. A declaration that a foreign judgment is enforceable in Israel is dependent upon its meeting certain conditions specified by statute, irrespective of whether recognition of the foreign judgment is indirect or direct. These conditions serve as the main route for giving validity to foreign in rem judgments and to personal status judgments, which cannot otherwise be enforced; recognition of a judgment as enforceable, however, enables it to be executed. The book integrates lucid, theoretical analysis of the issues of enforcement and recognition of foreign judgments with practical instructions. It thus serves as a valuable guide for anyone seeking answers to the questions examined in the book, whether in the context of international commerce or to resolve transnational legal disputes. Despite the complexity of the questions addressed in the book, they are given accurate and easily understandable answers. Haggai Carmon’s book grapples with the range of issues arising from the recognition of foreign judgments and their enforcement, i.e., the declaration that they are enforceable judgments. The book thoroughly and methodically examines these issues…Haggai Carmon has outstanding ISBN 978-3-642-32002-6 expertise in international law. He has a breadth of legal knowledge and extensive experience in both the theoretical and practical aspects of both private and public international law. He 2013. X, 303 p. 3 illus. The entire set will be completed with an index. Volume 12 Legal Philosophy in the Twentieth Century: The Civil Law World Volume 12 of A Treatise of Legal Philosophy and General Jurisprudence, titled Legal Philosophy in the Twentieth Century: The Civil-Law World, functions as a complement to Gerald Postema’s volume 11 (titled Legal Philosophy in the Twentieth Century: The Common Law World), and it offers the first comprehensive account of the complex development that legal philosophy has undergone in continental Europe and Latin America since 1900. In this volume, leading international scholars from the different language areas making up the civil-law world give an account of the way legal philosophy has evolved in these areas in the 20th century, the outcome being an overall mosaic of civil-law legal philosophy in this arc of time. Further, specialists in the field describe the development that legal philosophy has undergone in the 20th century by focusing on three of its main subjects—namely, legal positivism, natural-law theory, and the theory of legal reasoning—and discussing the different conceptions that have been put forward under these labels. The layout of the volume is meant to frame historical analysis with a view to the contemporary theoretical debate, thus completing the Treatise in keeping with its overall methodological aim, namely, that of combining history and theory as a necessary means by which to provide a comprehensive account of jurisprudential thinking. 4 ABC springer.com Forthcoming Dao Companion to Chinese Buddhist Philosophy Due November 2012 Dharma and Dao ISBN 978-90-481-2938-6 S. Feldman Magdeburg, den 11. Mai 2005 THE FOUNDATION OF COMPUTATIONAL VISUALISTICS i A NOTE AHEAD This book is a map. It maps the landscapes of the country of digital images, or, as it was lately renamed, the realms of Computational Visualistics. Like any picture, a map – and hence this book – is a context builder: it allows the readers to ex- plore different paths in an abstract region, to connect many landmarks on several ways, and to establish their own distinctions of figures and backgrounds according to their proper interests. However, a text is bound to its linear progression of propositions woven into the digital fabric of argumentation that only mimics the true spatial quality of images. As an extended path, read- ing this text snakes through the map in the effort to systematically cover all of its regions: the map only appears in the reader’s mind. Not all of the details present may be integrated on first view. After all: a real map presents all its details simultaneously, but only those details are ac- tually “read” that are relevant for the reader’s present intentions. The map reveals its contents not on a single glance.
